  • You probably DRANK MILK to get it! I had problems with gluten, but the A1 beta casein (found in dairy foods) seems to be a common trigger for type 1 diabetes. A2 milk is sold at the grocery stores here in Australia now, and I've been sticking with A2 milk and am off soy. Have you tried a product blogged on glutenfreesoyfree(dot)wordpress(dot)com/2011/09/13/possible-solution-gluten-intolerance/ for her T1 DM? celiac and t1 are related so may help

  • My sister got diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes yesterday. She's only 9. <3

  • I'm 14 and have been T1 for 8 years this

    year xx

  • I'm 14 and i got diabetes when i was 12. It's really hard to fight against it.

  • I am 12 years old and I just found out I possibly have type 1 diabetes! It's been in my family since God knows when. I recently had a Juvenile Emergency and that's not fun at all! I'm really scared about it and tomorrow I'm going to the doctors office so they can check and see. Can you get Type 1 Diabetes at 12? I thought you were supposed to get it really young.

  • My son is 11 and was just diagnosed with Type 1 on Tuesday 12/6/11. We're all still overwhelmed and scared, but I know with time and knowledge...it'll get better. We caught our son's symptoms very early...just a week after we seen the first sign of increased thirst and urination. We go in for our first round of "Boot Camp" at the diabetes clinic on Monday.

  • @sassypwns Hang in there. The first few weeks are the scariest. Be vigilant and understanding of how big a change it will be for your son and for the whole family. Best wishes.

  • im 14 and have just been diagnosed. any advice? not really sure what to do

  • @JonesMilly64 I was in the same boat as you two years, just make sure to look after yourself and keep yourself happy- it's much easier that way.

  • @JonesMilly64 Sorry to hear that news. Talk to your parents about the Omnipod. My 14 year old appreciates the "normality" (in an otherwise unnatural way) it grants him. Best of luck and best wishes.

  • @JonesMilly64 Type one or two?? I'm 12 and I am about to find out if I have type one but I promise to keep you in my prayers!

  • @Allison12342 I have type 1 and i'm 14. you can get it at any age. thank you very much, its kind of a shock at first, but you get used to it. i'll keep you in my prayers too, hope it all okay! xx

  • @JonesMilly64 Hey I just got the results and now I'm really happy because it turns out I don't have diabetes.

  • i have 1;) a very good video, <3

  • im type 1 on a insulin pump best change for me there great!!:)

  • I was diagnosed in May and I am 16. I already feel like I have lived with it for a long time. I got my pump this summer and I love it! My best friend knows all about type one diabetes because it is in her family and it helps me so much. She even has a "diabetic kit" in her car!

  • @annaqt321 Anna, I'm so glad you have a friend who understands and is there for you! That is fantastic!! Having the kit in her car really shows how much she cares for you as a friend. What a gift! Do you have a support group near you? That has made a huge difference in the lives of all our T1 families in Tyler, TX. I started a foundation a few years ago to help newly diagnosed families. If you get the chance to visit any new families, it sure feels good to reach out and give to others.

  • i have type one<3

  • does the blood sugar meter thing hurt? also isn't it horrible testing 8-10 times a day. I feel so bad for all people with diabetes... but I think I have it, and Im really scared.

  • @RubiixCat If you think you might have the symptoms, please go visit your doctor for a urine test immediately. The classic signs are rapid weight loss (not dieting) constant thirst and frequent urination. You might have a fruity order to your breath. If you have any of these signs, it is best to go straight to the doctor and have a quick test done. It will only take a few minutes to test your blood sugar. If you know anyone with diabetes that has a meter, you can use it to check too.

  • some just dont understand diabeties its hard but it makes you strong- kai halsey age 13 type 1 for 8 years

  • @videoman468 Thanks for your comments. You have an excellent outlook. You can be an encouragement to many others with attitude! Check out Matthew West's CD "The Story Behind the Story of Your Life." on iTunes I think you would love it based on your comments. I know I do! Very inspiring!

  • I have parents over the years look down on me because of my sons diabetes. They thought I was the cause. They figured I let my son sit around, eat all day causing it. I cannot be mad at them though. They dont understand the difference between type 1 and 2. They think it is al the same. They dont understand that it has nothing to do with our lifestyle. Has nothing to do with food or lack of exercise. Its something that just happens and we dont know why.

  • @jenny28791 Thanks so much for your comments. I totally understand. I hope we can help bring more awareness to T1 to help with many of these misunderstandings.

  • @jenny28791 i no how you feel but i am type one myself and i started highschool this year and because i have teachers that dont know much about diabetes and one of them told me off for doing a test and like made me really embarressed in front of the HOLE class by telling me off... he said to meSTOP disturbing the whole class and next time you want to do that go out side and i will have a talk to you for disturbing the class. i told my parents and theycalledtheschool.IWISHPEOPLENEWABOUTDIABETES!

  • I have one:).....

  • Great seeing some distinction being made between Type 1 and 2. It's very different and important for those of us with Type 1 in our lives.

  • @DanMasucci As a fellow Type 1 diabetic who was diagnosed at 16, I agree with you 100 percent. Not enough light gets shed on type 1, especially when it's more serious and lasts with you your whole life

  • I have type 1 diabetes

  • I've spent nearly 22 years educating the public about type 1 and I love that the children have a voice to express themselves.

  • @CureType1Diabetes Thank you for your time and energy for Type 1. I know you have fought this fight a long time since your son was diagnosed so early. You are right about the misunderstandings about Type 2. As you are aware though, we are fighting similar pervasive misunderstandings with Type 1. That was the sole intent of this video. We were not trying to take on the Type 2 misunderstands. This is their voice. Thank you again for your comments and efforts to fund a cure. We all want that.

  • My now 23 year old son was diagnosed as a still nursing on demand 1 year old in 1989. I work to raise money for and also am on a foundation that grants funds for cure focused research and prevention research for type 1 diabetes. No on suggested silencing. Although the words didn't specifically state that people with type 2 diabetes cause their disease, there was an implication. It is my belief that there is tremendous misunderstanding about type 2 diabetes in the type 1 diabetes community.

  • I couldn't prevent my autoimmune disease either. And yet because of the symptoms of autoimmune hypothyroidism and a family history, I developed type 2 diabetes. No, hypothyroidism doesn't usually kill like type 1 diabetes might, but it is still autoimmune and far from preventable - and the weight gain and fatigue that come with it make avoiding type 2 nearly impossible.

Please teach your children that type 2 isn't always preventable and isn't the fault of those who are diagnosed, either.

  • @talesofmy30s Fair enough. We will help our children understand that Type 2 isn't always preventable and that genetic factors play a part in their diagnosis as well. We simply ask for the same courtesy in helping others understand that Type 1's could do nothing to prevent the onset from happening, must check their blood 6-10 times a day for the rest of their lives, must count all carbs eaten and take insulin to match to stay alive and that diet and exercise are not going to cure their diabetes.

  • I love the kids. It really wasn't fair or necessary to compare to type 2 and make it sound like people who have type 2 diabetes can necessarily prevent it or simply live with it through diet and exercise alone, nor should there have been an implication that people with type 2 caused it.

  • @CureType1Diabetes I appreciate your comments about the video. We produced this video to help define Type 1. It is not about Type 2. The reason we let the kids say "Not two" is because they are compared to type 2 all the time and people do not even know there is a difference. Symbolically, if the "globe" were a picture of diabetes as a whole, Type 1 would be Antarctica, hidden and overshadowed by Type 2 Diabetes. Every word that they said was a true and accurate statement.

  • @CureType1Diabetes We have narrowed our focus to define Type 1. In doing that, we must make the distinction that Type 1 is an autoimmune disease and they did nothing to contribute to the disease in their body. It is very liberating for them to say that since the comparison is there on most days and from all the misinformation that is out there. This video gives voice to them. They should not be silenced because someone might infur something.

  • One more comment to @CureType1Diabetes They do not even have the opportunity to control, manage or even reverse their disease. It is a war and if they don't get up and fight it EVERY DAY, they wil lose. Please let them have a voice without reading into the script. We did NOT say that Type 2 caused their disease. We know they have strong genetic factors as well. We simply made the statement that Type 1's didn't do anything because many walk right up to them and tell them they did.

  • That was amazing and very touching. Everybody did so great! Kay Kay, Aunt Shell is so proud of you!!! I love you sweet cheerleader baby :)

  • Love the video. Great production. Love the naturalness of the children. They really tell in their own words what living with Type One is all about. Lets all work together to educate the public and reach the goal of a cure. Thanks to Tyler Type One and its volunteer helpers for their one on one support to newly diagnosed families in the Tyler Texas area of East Texas.

  • Thats my boy STORK... Love ya brother

  • I am so proud of all of our kids, who are living with Type 1 diabetes! The video turned out GREAT!! Our kids did such a good job speaking out on behalf of everyone living with this disease! Our sweet Lydia has been living with Type 1 since she was 2...Lydia, you are an amazing example for everyone in your life of faith, courage, hope, and determination to THRIVE, despite the challenges that you face every moment of every day.
