  • Great video. But please try to purchase a better camera so we can see and hear you better.

  • @Fredy1718 This is an extremely old video. The majority of videos on this channel are of much higher quality.

  • you should redo this video if havn't already i love sending this to family and friends. but they end up complaining about quality more than actually listening to what you have to say lol

  • I obviously agree and think this is a great video, but the audio is very low quality ._.

  • @Githian It's a very old video, made with a crappy webcam. Check my newer ones out ^^

  • Uhm, I disagree with your math theory, as I Suck at math, hardcore, yet Im able to play games just fine...

  • dont blame the game for the choices the individual chooses to act the game meerly offers the choice the person makes the decision.

  • games like doom are also the case of the good guy fighting the evil monsters to stop them before they can destroy life as we know it. games like gta however are something different they are a look into the idea art imitating life its a fictional story where the person is placed into a variety of sometimes realistic events that sometimes do happen in real life and being forced to base thier actions on that persons own personality. the player desides to kill the stranger or not its thier choice.

  • all hail FF7 kneel before the god of dreams and beauty.

the thing that this guy didnt mention about the rpgs was the simple fact that most rpgs also try to teach the basic concept of right and wrong. its the ancient story of someone does something bad in an attempt to gain power over others and a small band of people fight the good fight against this wouldbe dictator *unlike real life they win*

  • @sheehangrant77 FFVII is overrated, Sure its an amazing game, but it is not the best, nor is it the most beautiful.

FFVI > FFVII In Story, Characters, Depth and Villains.

  • I hate Jack Thompson, he knows nothing about video games. Your video is great!

  • that only happens to kids that are stupid and or have no self control

  • Its not that video games teach kids the wrong stuff, its that too many people that are ages a game wasnt made for play it. Call of Duty is a sterling example. Would I want to headshot someone one kill away from a chopper gunner in free for all only to hear him scream his head off and cry through my headset? Im too young for COD according to the ESRB but at least I dont throw a fucking fit when I get killed. its inmaturity and poor sportsmanship. keep kids away from games that dont belong to them

  • people say video games cause violents why i'll kill them!

  • dude howd u make this video its so good

  • I learned english from halo and other games.

  • @monstrs23 you didn't notice that runescape was European did you?

  • Video games can teach you. I've had simple games teach me reversi, checkers, and chess. Others taught me how to do simple math equations, only to have it taught to everyone else a few years later.

  • This video is notttt trueeeee. Why would I want to spend so much time looking at a screen, doing these fake things in these fake games instead of having a real life...? These "pluses" like building hand-eve coordination... well it's more like thumb-controller coordination, which will really help with things like... texting....? And last time I checked, hand eye coordination involves actually seeing that which is being manipulated by the hand, instead of memorizing controls.

  • @0978raissa There are scientific studies backing up my statements. Some of them are cited in the book mentioned in this video.

  • @0978raissa you sir, can die.

  • @LOLBastardMan Youre so mature.... ANDDD to top it all off, your name is bastardman....... :P

  • @0978raissa FUCK!!! You got me there.

Excuse me while I go commit suicide. I'm sorry to have bothered you. :(

  • @0978raissa y would I wnt to spnd so mch time looking at a screen,(you watch movies don't you?)doing fake thngs in fake games instd of havng a real life(gamrs hve lives 2, we just have a hobby.Evr heard of it??)(Hand eye coordntion- hand and eye wrkin together 4 completion of a task.I do believe that gamng falls in ths category.) Gamrs are just people who play games 4 a hobby. Some people play sprts while othrs make art. Dn't hate on somethng sum1 else enjoys doin just because you don't like it.

  • summon night 2 at 3:44, why has no-one heard of this game?

  • I`ve learned English whit video games like runescape, and other games...I learned how to write fast and understandable at age of 8 but now im 12 so if Jack Thompson and other idiots tink games make pepole bad? they can piss off

  • @monstrs23 You didn't learn too well did you? Maybe you should read that post again.

  • Lol i have to totally agree but also because i had to write a paper pro-video games for kids. I read similar literature with... similar points you just made. If you wanna make a youtube video for the public to see maybe go a little further than what you read in a book. Only unusual life-discoveries are worth sharing with strangers, and worth 5min of my life.

  • yeah! walkin to mcdonalds my place underground that mcdonalds is ronald mcdonald and were going to go inside and inspect the premises and get us a milkshake.wheres my money...heres my money lets get us a milkshake

  • I love gamers standing up and making videos like this to prove how wrong these politicians are.

Lets hope that the case in Caliafornia goes our way so the politicians will just shut up or hopefully get booted out of office so they can be replaced by more sensible politicians...

Lucky you like in America too, in Australia where I am most policians don't know jack about videogames yet they are the ones who decide if we could have an R18+ rating for them.... :(

  • 2:15 is that Lufia 2? I hear it has half-way clever puzzles.

From the thumbnail I thought it was Soukoban.

  • @schtolteheim Yes it's from the NA version of Lufia II. Treasure Sword Shrine puzzles were only added to the NA version.

  • It's Jack Thompson what else do ya expect, he has been on a crusade to wipe out video games since I don't know when (probably since the 80's or when mortal combat first came out, again I AM NOT SURE), but he has been always against video games, and prefers everyone play pong or do nothing instead of playing games like Street Fighter, GTA, or Mortal Combat.

  • yeah,a kid is going to some how find a gun, some how get the thing loaded, some how aim it,and some how turn into a cyborg killing machine..........jesus

  • u kinda ruined games when you said they involve math but still a good vid

    5/5

  • So Video game teach kids to rely on Patterns, so then when they caught unaware by something unpredictable, they will die....

  • @stringanime No....it teaches them how to quickly identify new patterns.

  • @jfreedan Some things just cannot be taught through patterns. If you see an accident approaching, Pattern Recognition helps, if you don't see it coming, God help you.

  • @stringanime That people do not have Jedi powers is not an argument. Playing videogames that train the brain to quickly identify and respond to patterns helps a person better respond than those who don't train their brains.

  • @jfreedan No one is arguing. Pattern Recognition is a skill. I play intense Shooter games, I sure know patterns. However, Life isn't all patterns. Do you disagree? Life is more like a dance, you feel things, non-sensual things. Life isn't just an intellectual pursuit, and trusting ones own eyes ALL the time, isn't good. Often, life defies logic. Too much video games can exercise a dependency on pattern recognition. I am not saying there isn't a way to overcome that, but that is me.

  • @stringanime You are making an argument and that argument is that pattern recognition can't help people from things they can't foresee. But that's not entirely true. Sure, if you get hit by a car you don't see being able to recognize a moving vehicle won't help you, but pattern recognition does tell you roads are very dangerous and to be cautious when crossing them. And life is all patterns. It's only chaotic if you are unaware of the patterns.

  • @jfreedan I believe unseen things have patterns, I see patterns in the unseen always. What I should say is, a Blind person can see patterns too. I also believe the blind exercise and are in more in tune to the things I am speaking of. By all appearances, blindness is a weakness, but if the Blind are poor in sight, aren't they usually rich in something? If that be so, then if them who are strong in sight, what are they poor in?

  • @stringanime Pattern recognition is independent of sight. Sight is just one way to obtain information; pattern recognition helps you make sense of that information.

  • @jfreedan cool, I can tell by the pattern of our replies, you don't understand what I am saying, but I understand what you are saying. I'm cool man, no biggy.

  • Even games like HL2 have some puzzles in them. Whether how to make a stopped elevator move again, to Making a make-shift ramp, this game is a good choice. Plus L4D2 because it teaches hand-eye co-ordination, and a few other skills too. :)

  • 2:45 aaaaargh

  • you look so stupid

  • Holy crap--so THIS is why we're all nerds! Lol awesome vid.

  • hes kinda right but u got some retards that still copy the game/film and go out and kill people or what ever these people are thick and inbred americans that dont know fuck all.

meaning people with a half a brain cell in common sense can play these games...... u got so much shit heads that dont deserve to live coz there so thick and still play these games that are the problem...

  • This is awesome

  • Many RPGs especially tactical ones have puzzle elements in them. For instance, Disgaea's Geo Panel system turns the battlefield into a puzzle because you can quickly destroy lots of enemies with proper placement and getting the right chain of color changes.

  • Mail this video to hillary clinton.

  • i likey, mainly couse u put in the 2 lufia games which are probably my fav nostalgic RPGs ;P

  • thanks babe...

  • 03:29 to 03:39 is EXACTLY why my girlfriend sucks at videogames LOL

  • @voodooiam maybe its cause i havnt found the right one i like to play!!

  • i'd rerecord this to cut out the background noise (sounds like a furnace running) - but your points are well thought out and show educated study. I'm very impressed

  • I agree with you, but you could have also mentioned the abundance of text in most games (RPG's having alot), I can say from personal experience that games can greatly increase reading ability, for instance when I was in grade 8 we had to read a book and answer some questions on it, it took about a week and a half for the whole class to finish before we moved on, it took me 3 days to finish the book and questions then I read the 2 sequels to the book in the next 3 days know why video games.

  • Fuck people who say that Video Games teach kids to be violent that's stupid and unlikey

  • @jediking12

    ever heard of GTA?

  • @TheKestevon yeah I have 4 of their games but look I don't do what they do in that game

  • Bravo!!!

  • I totally agree with you about videogames. My dad says that I waste brain cells playing videogames but I've realized that I have better hand-eye coordination than he does and I'm better at math than him too. I tried telling him that videogame actually get you to think and use strategy.

  • i agree. i'm a big time gamer and i do well in school, never got into any fights (i don't count arguments as fights), have many friends (some which are gamers and some which aren't), and i drive well. i laugh at ppl who say games teach kids bad habits.

  • Coming from a fellow gamer it's obvious that I totally agree with the message you're trying to get across. I think it would be great if you could get in touch with someone who is savvy with recording and editting and make a much more enticing video that would attract those who AREN'T gamers. That's when you'll make a difference

  • my bro plays video games

and he is a good driver

    0.0

  • well said

  • games dont teach you anything unless they are designed to do so games are just fun :)

  • you may think that but as he said the multiplication, addition, subtraction, and division are greatly used to play the games let alone MAKE them math and science are used a lot to make these games and are also used a lot to play them i know im rambling on but I want to make a point!!! If say in an RPG and you don't know numbers you may be using your weakest attack thinking it's your strongest or your strongest HOPING to heal yourself now THAT wouldn't end well , I hope I made a point to you thnx

  • ya i totally agree

  • wow, great video. You really said it.

  • GAMES ARE NOTHING BUT MATH??!

I'm gonna quit playing games now, you ruined for it for me

  • indeed he has xD

  • hahaha ruined it for me too!! D:

  • Nah. PresidentBagel, they tell a story, and more.

  • Moral judgement...? GTA?

    xD

  • 0:55 ow....

  • cool summon night !! n_n

  • I actually loved what you said^^

  • Lol. You from Cincy mate? Saw the WCPO pic. Nice.

  • nice reading from a cue card

  • You'd rather him sound like a retard?

  • so thats why math seems easy

  • Yay kill with math!

  • wow, I've been doing math all this time and didn't even know it, God I love Super Math Mario RPG, lol. XD

  • There is much truth to his words.

  • Very nice video, man. One prob, GTA is not an FPS.

  • Some people are stupid like that. After I saw what hilary said about video games I voted for obama

  • Hey nice video man! I hope you play some of the newer consoles these days. Gamers for life!

  • I agree, we should learn math by playing Final Fantasy.

  • 1:43 hate that game

  • I'm sorry, but the math you described sounds like 3rd grade math.

I highly doubt that RPG's teach kids logrythms or calculus or any REAL math that can be used on the professional level. So anyone above the age of 8 playing an RPG is basicly just wasting time (is what your implying).

Let's face it games are for fun, they're not designed with education in mind.

And yes I am a lifelong gamer, and I disagree entirely with Hillary. I just don't think games should be treated so seriously.

  • what was that 3d-ish RPG with the girl characters fighting a lich thingy?

  • Didn't Hilary Clinton attack her husband and scratch his face for cheating on him?

  • that's what I would do if my husband cheated on me (if i had a husband)

  • Ok games entertain have fun people say they are sims what the olny sims we have there are flight and militay for army and shit like that game enter tane

  • MATH. *columns rise*

Just about the greatest indication of the epicness of math ever.

  • yeah math rules

  • Your video would have more credence if you didn't use mostly clips from tool-assisted games. And the ebaumsworld clip. Fucking thiefs.

  • Im trying to find that game at 3:10 for about a year now could any1 tell me the name of it?

and allso i watched Jack Thompson movies for about 4 hours now all he ever sais is the institute of american psych's research what no1 seems to know about only him

So hes an ass dacc all

  • This guy...Hillary...Pointless arguments in both ways...the violence problem is not there. Well...this discusion leads to a diferent problem ...the guy who made this video it's a normal citizen of the world but hillary it's one of the most powerful womans in the world it's very dangerous to see that powerful politians have stupid opinions on violence. HOW ABOUT CLOSE WEAPONS STORES IN AMERICA? Maybe this...is closer to the resolution of the violence problem in america lol.

  • Completely agree. Make having firearms etc illegal - not video games!

Another thing I'd add to the vid's argument is that the military uses video games for training because, as you said, it improves hand-eye coordination. That's fact, and it's a good skill to acquire.

RPGs are also good for younger kids (although I'm 19 and still love playing them) as the forcus is often on the story so it helps with kids' reading.

  • New RPGs, with their voice acting, is kind of ruining that. I learned how to read better with RPGs though. FFVI and Super Mario RPG for the win!

  • RPGs don't appeal to chavs... so they don't do math? meh, makes sense.

  • lool the guy was getting angry an the end... i agree with him but this guys a fag

  • SPEAK THE TRUtH MY BROTHER!!!

  • One thing is funny...Most of the murders that have link with GTA, Halo, CCS, are in america. the only one aorund the world was germany.. maybey it is not the games, but the american gamers...

  • that makes loads of sense so your casting blame from video games to americans did you ever think it was just the persons choice to kill especially since people have been murdering since mankind existed

  • I would say perhaps the reason there are more incidents in America is because weapons are more available than in other countries. There are probably people outside of the US that have similar violent tendencies, but not as many have access to weapons. That said, knife crime in Britain ison the up. :S

  • TV is much worse then VGs!!! All programs on TV recently are fighting, murder over money, murder over sexual orientation, merder over property, war, cooking, infomercials, and car insurance commercials!!!!!! What the fuck!!!!!!

  • Yo this is so GNARLY i never would have though of it like that. I can do puzzle solving thing in my math class faster then my teacher. Ive been playing games scince i could pick up my first GB Color. I have noticed my reaction time is very fast. Yo you should be the person to fight congress with your Final Fantasy Defence. Keep it up.

  • I hate censorship, and I hate people being hypocritical only caring about "The kids" while other people get their rights taken away from them. Well guess what retards those kids have to grow up some time and then what. Then you won't give and shit.

    Don't worry I never gave a shit.

  • lol swazy at 3:41

  • Well, the RPGs you took as examples aren't really RPGs but much rather jRPGs, Japanese RPGs. Western RPGs are quite different and involve even more awesome stuff like a story with choice and consequence, and a lot of character development and customization. Check out games like Fallout, Arcanum, Baldur's Gate 2 and Planescape Torment to see what I mean.

  • Epic win, dude. Epic win...

  • 3 stars. It's true, but slightly biased (how do you explain games like gta?).

  • It´s ironic, but even in gta4 there is "moral judgement" many times in the storyline you have the ability to kill or not kill a person and that decision has consequences.

  • Well said.

  • The one thing you forgot to mention about RPG's is that they aren't any damn fun. At all. 'cept fot Mario RPG, of course.

Sweet, frickin' video though. 5 stars!

  • 1.like you said about RPGS.The Attacking system is simple...

    the players attack/weapon - the enemy's DEF/armor.

EX:my attack is 26 - The enemy's DEF which is 12.my maximum damage i will deal is 14, and minimal is -5 from maximum damage.so, that means i will deal a maximum of 14,minimum of 9.

2.1ST person shoot creates dextaraty, AND hand-eye cordanation.same with 3RD person.

3.the NFS series tells people to keap the driving IN THE GAME.

    4.advnturs/fighturs help Hand-eye coradination

  • Good video. :)

I liked your whole point that a rpg is like a math problem. I hadn't thought of them like that before, but I realize that they kinda are.

I hate how narrowminded adults see a clip of a violent scene in a game and assume ALL games are like that.

But most adults I know are cool with video games. :) There's actually a video game club at my highschool, and no teacher that I know of has complained about it.

  • MARIO RPG!!!!!!!!

  • nice, dude!

  • so you need 250 hits to get the medal on Zoness? damn i had 246! sooooo close!

  • thank god for video games and meatl music i would have never though to go around shooting people before video games and music

  • there is a book called "Ender's Game"

by Orson Scott Card, it explains a lot by telling a different story, the movie based on this book should arrive soon, for those who don't read books

  • nice!

at least somebody is telling the truth here

    thanks for th video!

  • Interesting watch!

  • i didnt know that grand theft auto was a first person shooter.

  • Thank you for making this video. Heck I have become a lot quicker in the last year because I started to play video games more. Mainly because of X-Box 360 games like Gears of War or Halo 3 for example. My average reaction time out of five runs used to be about .25 or slower. Now since I started to play more I am between .15 and .17 =D

  • Your logic is sound in this video, but there's little proof for it and like someone before me has said, you won't convince anyone other than those who already agree with you unfortunately...

  • well facts arent opinion, and you just saw a shed load of facts laid out in that video... the main proof is the billions of gamers around the world, they arent all genocidal maniacs, in fact most poeple who can afford modern consoles need a pretty good job and thus a certain level of intelligence that folks like these politicians arent crediting.

games give your brain a workout period :D

  • Don't get me wrong, i agree with you :D AND this video (despite all the -s my comment got :/ Some people clearly can't read) I was just saying pointing out the obvious like this video has done won't change the opinions of people like Jack Thompson and whatnot.

  • Btw, this is me speaking :P Made the comment under my mate's account by accident.

  • "You see son, If you kill that hooker, you get your money back!"

  • Sorry, but this is a really poor video. The only other thing I'll say is this: the only people you're going to convince with this are the people who want to be convinced (all of whom are already convinced).

  • I thought that your first point about spatial reasoning and visual recognition was valid, but the arithmetic idea does not stand on the same solid ground of reasoning. In almost all of the clips of RPGs you've shown, visual bar references were used in conjunction with numbers to communicate the amount of magic/life points a character has left. This can also bee seen in the most popular MMORPG, World of Warcraft, which would fall under the category of the supposedly arithmetic-assisting RPG.

  • Actually I would like to contest your assesment that WoW doen't have arithmetic-assisting qualities. While simply playing WoW doesn't require much, building a good characted does require quite much mathematical thinking...

  • could you give me examples?

  • Actualy that feature can be turned on to show all arithmetic actions going on E.x. Attack damage, healing EST.

It IS actualy in world of warcraft, And the player stat system shows it so.

I myself have played a lot of WoW know this well.

  • Try playing Eve. The number of sums you need to do in that is incredible.

  • where is part 2

  • But you're talking about GOOD games, like Chrono Trigger (Lavos was hard :| ). And people in media are talking about GTA or other bullshit games.

  • most smart people know how to interact and use their basic motor skills because as a kid they played games, this helps our fight against ignorant people, most people think if they get rid of video games they get rid of violence, but that will never happen

  • RPGs are a math problem.... I love Final Math Problem Fantasy 7. XO

  • jack thompson is mad at the truth coming out

  • YOU ROCK!!!!

  • so I was doing math all along and I never knew it!!(I love RPGs)YOU ROCK DUDE!

  • i gotta show this to my mom

  • lol seriously, i think t.v. is sumthing thats teaches bad behavior, not videogames, but that doesn't mean i'll stop watching t.v. ;)

  • very interesting perspective on gaming.

  • on the subject of role playing games try beating omega weapon in final fantasy 8 it has over 1 million hit points and most attacks it is immune to also video games teach you to use your brain has in lemmings with its puzzle element

  • lol Roflcopters.

  • Practice what you see

  • I mean yeah the you multiply the damage done your enemy when you attack but most people who play rpg dont realy care about math part except to know that if the weapon has a higher number of damage than there previous weapons then its a stronger weapon, but after that the player doesn't realy doesnt take a second to notice it and just continues playing. higher number of damage= stronger attack points ,which is like he said common sense's.

  • it isnt direct maths problems and the player doesnt no he/she is completing them its subliminal maths problems. Not only does it help build there math skills it also helps create speed in answering these maths problems, because you need to react quickly before the "monster" attacks back. and subliminal learning is usually better and sticks with you for longer.

  • crono trigger!!!!!@@!!@!@@@!

    but i stil like ff7 better :D

  • Thank fucking god. You are indeed one of the most intelligent people to exist.

  • Congratulations! You, jfreedan, are indeed a wonderful person. I commend you, and wish I could shake your hand, but alas, I cannot, and so I shall simply type my high regard for you.

Sir, it is a blessing to have found you. You are fantastic. Many happy returns, ~Joe.

  • Dude you fuckin pwned, this is like the best video defending games from the media on youtube ever.

  • GENIUS!!!! Finally!! people now see there is an upside to having no life!!

  • Hats off to you man. This is one of the most important vids I've seen on youtube.

Even though I'm from the UK and I don't think I'll be affected by this Act you mention at the end, I've heard of the ridiculous actions of that complete wanker named Jack Thompson. I was truly shocked when I heard abot the ridiculous stunts he came up with to advertise his biased, non-factually-based arguments of 'murder simulators'.

You should be proud of yourself man, you're a credit to the videogame community.

  • I learned great hand-eye cordination thanks to playing games such as Kingdom Hearts 1 and 2, Tekken, Mortal Combat, Naruto Ultimate Ninja, and so on.

  • Very nice video. It shows that video games actually make us think... not just be there sitting on the couch the hole day!! TY

I hope other people see it the same way.

  • FIGHT THE POWER! good video bud

  • This is probably the best video here on youtube,i congratulate the person fro makignt his and poitining it out to my father, now hes not such a nagger as he was before, believe it or not,now he wants he to play video gamesfor at least and hour a day after my hw Thank you, man, you are my god *Bows* XD

  • It would probably help if you spelled "Representatives" correctly along with the fact that Grand Theft Auto isn't a first-person shooter, although I understand your argument and think it is for the most part, valid. But keep in mind, games like Grand Theft Auto, Gears of War and Kill Thrill (back in the day before it was canned) are what the media and politicians use as scapegoats, and there are many, many other legit uses of video games, without the use of violence and such.

  • I like the fact that you pointed that out (sorry ran out of characters in the first post) and I wanted to say that it's a cool video never-the-less. :)
