Some cop shootings happen for this very reason. The cop becomes Mr. Myshitdontstink and becomes very disrespectul. The driver is a real man and don't take shit like that. The cop becomes much more forceful and the driver decides the cop might shoot him so he takes action first and shoots the cop. Then he gets caught and either goes to prison for life or is executed. All thanks to a asshat cop with a attitude.

@lioneagle86 If I were you I would try to get into the head of a cop or anyone else in a position of authority that had threatened me and attempt to get answers before SHTF. If he insisted on being a complete and total asshole like Officer Friendly here, I would be very concerned for my safety. You could actually defend yourself in court if you had video such as this to prove your case. Just because he is a authority figure does not make him immune to self defense measures.

I don't think it would be too wise to assume he had a stable mind if he was an officer of the law and made direct threats the way Officer Friendly did. I would certainly hope that an event such as this never happened to anyone, but like I said, we are all human and say stupid shit sometimes that gets us hurt.
There's ways to talk to people to calm them down. He doesn't need to have a stable mind, only you do. To put it in perspective I think you have a better chance of calming down the officer than winning in court for shooting him because you were threatened by his yelling. The way I see it, I have a brain and my gun, and most of the time my brain will do a better job. Maybe that isn't true for everyone.
I do agree with some your cooler headed points, like my right to life. I personally believe in going through life with a level head. Some things just aren't worth it, but some things are. Protecting yourself and the lives of family and friends from a threat is worth dying for. A verbal spat with a police officer isn't. The guy handled it well, that's why he didn't get shot by Officer Small Penis.
@lioneagle86 I would say that about 70 percent of the people in this country are sheep and would never challenge authority. You have maybe 5 percent with organic mental illness such as schizophrenic depression and would have no problem pulling their weapon first. Then there are the rest, where they would have to be directly threatened with loss of life before shooting. I would place myself in this group.
Ok, so you'd shoot the officer. Have you thought of what happens next? They send every police officer within 15 miles after you and they shoot first and ask questions later. You have to figure out a way to turn yourself in without getting killed, and explain your actions to a 911 dispatcher. Now you've turned your 1 person problem turned into a 100 person problem. Your chances of success decrease the more variables you add to a situation. Again, I'd stick to one variable.
Say you make it without getting shot by the 50 officers they send after you. Then you have to dedicate the next 4-5 years of your life to a court case to prove your innocence. The people involved with your case in either a small or big way are now in the thousands. What if something happens to the squad car video? Shooting a police officer is orders of magnitude more difficult than shooting a mugger. Good luck to you.
In conclusion, it's not about being a sheep, wolf, or sheepdog. It's about seeing a situation on youtube that can easily be avoided by preventative measures. Anything that will get me back home making love to my wife. One single action on your part can keep this from ever happening to you.

Lastly for some practical advice, I have a CCW card on me at all times that I carry. So if an officer ever asks for my license and registration, I'll just hand him my Drivers license, Registration, and CCW license at the same time. That way I'm notifying him without being awkward about it. People get nervous about telling police they have a weapon, and that seems like the sanest way to go about doing it. The world is a crazy place, so prepare for crazy ahead of time.

Someone in an alley doesn't have a radio channel open to Police HQ, or a video camera watching them from a squad car. So if an officer threatened me, I'd be more than happy to talk him down. I do believe there are situations where you'd be justified in defending yourself against an officer, but my point is to try to avoid those situations at all costs.
Ive been following this story for some time. There were multiple complaints about Daniel Harless that the Mayor of Canton and City Councilman Shulman had swept under the rug. Over 25 complaints and 15 of them swept under the rug. Harless was put on paid leave while the incidents were investigated. Councilman Schulman said that CCW citizens made an officers job almost impossible, because officers now have to treat every traffic stop as if the driver were armed and dangerous. Isn't that SOP?

Why has Daniel Harless not been arrested ? If any citizen were caught on camera doing this, they'd be tossed in jail without bail and sentenced to several years in prison, after which they would NEVER be allowed to possess a firearm as a condition of their release. Harless is a violent felon and a danger to the community. His partner should also be tried for being part of this vicious assault and illegal arrest, and the chief of police should be fired for not arresting them both
Personally, I think the compulsion to identify violates the 5th amendment in the first place. It also potentially creates tension where none need be. For any reading who wish to obey that law, however, it is pretty easy.. just remain calm and say "Hello officer, before we begin I am required by law to inform you that I have a concealed carry permit. I am/am not carrying a firearm tonight. Do you have any specific instructions for me?" Unless you get a douchebag like that one, you'll be fine.
There should be tension in the officer for pulling someone over. That's the whole fucking point, maybe they wouldn't do it so much if they knew people were armed and wouldn't take their unlawful bullying.

What a shame...I am retired corrections, and this incident causes me to remember all of the LEOs that I dealt with over the years that were " Badge Happy ". Many seemed to have the attitude that they were running the show even though they were on my turf. It's no wonder that people tend to be paranoid around cops. I have been stopped once while carrying and luckily it did not go down like this. The officers were reasonably respectful although evtremely careful. Funny how a cop (who carries him or herself) treats a legal CCW user like they have a disease. That stop took about 5 times as long as a typical stop would have taken. I am pretty sure they ran me through every system in the nation and the serial number of the gun. I don't think that in itself should be legal. Thankfully not all cops are like him

@rafaelxperez sorry pal, but stress is NO excuse for what this cop did. Even his Police Chief, Dan McKimm called it "wholly unacceptable". This cop opened his city up to tremendous liablity. You can clearly see in the video the victim was told to shut up, and then when he was talked to he tried several times to show the cop his CCW permit and get a word in edgewise. The cop did poor police work by taking forever to contact the driver, and not giving him a reasonable chance to notify.

Most officers are normally very understanding and shows considerable restraint when dealing with the public, I have been in a few situations that required an officer to be patient and understanding and as an african american 99% of the times they do the right and propper thing, however, there are those like this scumbag, who should never never be allowed on the road to even pretend to protect the public. there is no excuse for this kind of behaviour and no one should defend it!

Hope he is suspended without pay. But they need to terminate him, revoke his law enforcement officer license and CCL (if he has one), put on his FBI criminal record a prohibition to obtain LEO certification/license in any state, and have him put on the "no fly" list. He is a menace to society, a "lose trigger." Incidentally, in Texas, telling someone "...I'll kill ya!" like you mean it can be considered a "terroristic threat," and is prosecutable. Perhaps Ohio has a similar statute.

I think were all missing the point. While I think that this officer's actions were appalling, I think that its pretty evident that this "gentleman" was either in the process of, or was about to break the law all while carring a concealed weapon. Instead of rallying behind this guy in order to protect our second amendment rights why dont we condem him as being the reason that a lot law abiding citizens dont favor concealed carry laws. Police officers are given authority over the citizens to protect the citizens, and they all swore an oath to that. When someone who is in that position of authority threatens to carry out a summary execution of a citizen he swore to protect, that officer is commiting a VERY serious crime. He needs to be brought up on charges by the Canton Police Department.
I was in ohio headed to New York to see a now X-fiance and i had my Yarbrough knife (im a former green beret) with me and i was pulled over and he tried to take the knife due to its size it all ended very well the officer thanked me for my service and i received a ticket for speeding. Point is every profession has those guys and gals that are assholes cops cant be judged, assholes are everywhere.

I know him from where I used to work and I have to say this officer is not like this. One more point. The CCW guy says that the prosecuter offered him a deal that the bogus charge would go away if he would sign a paper that he would not sue the city. If that is true then the prosecuter is corrupt morrally if not legally and needs to be removed also.
I think real law abiding police officers should be the most angriest about this. They are going to have to stop nervious people who have seen this video and are thinking "is that a regular cop or officer psycho". If I were a member of FOP I would be demanding that the cop be fired for the sake of my own protection. Also the CCW law is too abusable as written and needs to be rewritten so the burden of the law is not on those of us who try to follow it.

I don't believe any license holder has any duty to tell a police officer unless they are told to exit the vehicle. I also don't feel the police have a right to remove your weapon from you during a simple stop. You have a right to keep and bear arms this is my view. Unless you are asked to step out I see no reason to inform the officer. After seeing the permit they should know you have been checked.
That cop needs to lose his job and the partner that was there needs to be suspended upon further investigation. Looks to me like the city is going to be sued and the cop will lose his job but we'll have to see. I don't think it would be too wise to assume he had a stable mind if he was an officer of the law and made direct threats the way Officer Friendly did. There's ways to talk to people to calm them down. He doesn't need to have a stable mind, only you do. To put it in perspective I think you have a better chance of calming down the officer than winning in court for shooting him because you were threatened by his yelling. The way I see it, I have a brain and my gun, and most of the time my brain will do a better job. Maybe that isn't true for everyone.

Ok, so you'd shoot the officer. Have you thought of what happens next? They send every police officer within 15 miles after you and they shoot first and ask questions later. You have to figure out a way to turn yourself in without getting killed, and explain your actions to a 911 dispatcher. Now you've turned your 1 person problem turned into a 100 person problem. Your chances of success decrease the more variables you add to a situation. Again, I'd stick to one variable.

Say you make it without getting shot by the 50 officers they send after you. Then you have to dedicate the next 4-5 years of your life to a court case to prove your innocence. The people involved with your case in either a small or big way are now in the thousands. What if something happens to the squad car video? Lastly for some practical advice, I have a CCW card on me at all times that I carry. So if an officer ever asks for my license and registration, I'll just hand him my Drivers license, Registration, and CCW license at the same time. That way I'm notifying him without being awkward about it. People get nervous about telling police they have a weapon, and that seems like the sanest way to go about doing it. The world is a crazy place, so prepare for crazy ahead of time.

Someone in an alley doesn't have a radio channel open to Police HQ, or a video camera watching them from a squad car. So if an officer threatened me, I'd be more than happy to talk him down. I do believe there are situations where you'd be justified in defending yourself against an officer, but my point is to try to avoid those situations at all costs.

Ive been following this story for some time. There were multiple complaints about Daniel Harless that the Mayor of Canton and City Councilman Shulman had swept under the rug. Over 25 complaints and 15 of them swept under the rug. Harless was put on paid leave while the incidents were investigated. Councilman Schulman said that CCW citizens made an officers job almost impossible, because officers now have to treat every traffic stop as if the driver were armed and dangerous. Isn't that SOP?

If any citizen were caught on camera doing this, they'd be tossed in jail without bail and sentenced to several years in prison, after which they would NEVER be allowed to possess a firearm as a condition of their release. Personally, I think the compulsion to identify violates the 5th amendment in the first place. It also potentially creates tension where none need be. For any reading who wish to obey that law, however, it is pretty easy.. just remain calm and say "Hello officer, before we begin I am required by law to inform you that I have a concealed carry permit. I am/am not carrying a firearm tonight. Do you have any specific instructions for me?" Unless you get a douchebag like that one, you'll be fine.

Many seemed to have the attitude that they were running the show even though they were on my turf. It's no wonder that people tend to be paranoid around cops. I have been stopped once while carrying and luckily it did not go down like this. The officers were reasonably respectful although evtremely careful. Funny how a cop (who carries him or herself) treats a legal CCW user like they have a disease. That stop took about 5 times as long as a typical stop would have taken. I am pretty sure they ran me through every system in the nation and the serial number of the gun. I don't think that in itself should be legal. Thankfully not all cops are like him

The mere fact that L.E. here in the USA are able to carry firearms should also mean that responsibility comes with the job too! Cops should stop being so scared of average-everyday people and start respecting the fact that citizens have the right to own firearms too! Cops who don't like that idea should either get another f***ing job or go work in another Country/Continent! Notice how most of the posts here are against 'thug-cops'...Very well....

This guy was a bad CCW holder. I can't believe these comments. Cops should be shot? Someoneone actually said that. This reinforces my opinion that most people on YOUTUBE are fucking idiots. Most people commenting are not CCW holders or police officers, therefore their opinions are fucked up. See how the stress feels when you have guns pulled on you all the time. Even soldiers deal with this stress.

@rafaelxperez sorry pal, but stress is NO excuse for what this cop did. Even his Police Chief, Dan McKimm called it "wholly unacceptable". This cop opened his city up to tremendous liablity. You can clearly see in the video the victim was told to shut up, and then when he was talked to he tried several times to show the cop his CCW permit and get a word in edgewise. The cop did poor police work by taking forever to contact the driver, and not giving him a reasonable chance to notify.

Has anyone of you negative commentators worked in this man's line of work? Do you know how stressful it is to work in a high crime area and to be unaware of who you are dealing with on he streets..then there it is, a gun. Your life right before your very eyes goes by. Obviously, the gun carrier was in the hood for illegal reasons. The officer used no force, he was simply verbally abrasive. What the department should do is offer this officer paid stress leave and training to cope with stress.

@rafaelxperez When you threaten to beat someone up (put lumps on you) or threaten to execute someone (pull my glock forty and execute you) that isn't verbal abuse, that is a verbal threat and is assault by Ohio standards. It is a misdemeanor but in the color of authority it is in fact a felony. I am stressed paying my mortgage, you want to excuse me for robbing a bank while your at it?

Most officers are normally very understanding and shows considerable restraint when dealing with the public, I have been in a few situations that required an officer to be patient and understanding and as an african american 99% of the times they do the right and propper thing, however, there are those like this scumbag, who should never never be allowed on the road to even pretend to protect the public. there is no excuse for this kind of behaviour and no one should defend it!

Hope he is suspended without pay. But they need to terminate him, revoke his law enforcement officer license and CCL (if he has one), put on his FBI criminal record a prohibition to obtain LEO certification/license in any state, and have him put on the "no fly" list. He is a menace to society, a "lose trigger." Incidentally, in Texas, telling someone "...I'll kill ya!" like you mean it can be considered a "terroristic threat," and is prosecutable. Perhaps Ohio has a similar statute.

I think were all missing the point. While I think that this officer's actions were appalling, I think that its pretty evident that this "gentleman" was either in the process of, or was about to break the law all while carring a concealed weapon. Instead of rallying behind this guy in order to protect our second amendment rights why dont we condem him as being the reason that a lot law abiding citizens dont favor concealed carry laws. I have a permit, but dont fequent bad areas at 1am.

Police officers are given authority over the citizens to protect the citizens, and they all swore an oath to that. When someone who is in that position of authority threatens to carry out a summary execution of a citizen he swore to protect, that officer is commiting a VERY serious crime. He needs to be brought up on charges by the Canton Police Department.

I was in ohio headed to New York to see a now X-fiance and i had my Yarbrough knife (im a former green beret) with me and i was pulled over and he tried to take the knife due to its size it all ended very well the officer thanked me for my service and i received a ticket for speeding. Point is every profession has those guys and gals that are assholes cops cant be judged, assholes are everywhere.

I know him from where I used to work and I have to say this officer is not like this. He is a very good officer and a very caring person and from what I saw had all the patiences towards people and I hope he is not fired. The other officer was so far out of contol it isn't funny. One more point. The CCW guy says that the prosecuter offered him a deal that the bogus charge would go away if he would sign a paper that he would not sue the city. If that is true then the prosecuter is corrupt morrally if not legally and needs to be removed also.

I think real law abiding police officers should be the most angriest about this. They are going to have to stop nervious people who have seen this video and are thinking "is that a regular cop or officer psycho". If I were a member of FOP I would be demanding that the cop be fired for the sake of my own protection. Also the CCW law is too abusable as written and needs to be rewritten so the burden of the law is not on those of us who try to follow it.

Please advise who else we need to contact. After the mayor, that's done. FOP? Governor? DOJ? ACLU? federal prosecutor? Law director? I can write a letter/email, but there needs to be guidance in how to distribute. When the answer is posted, everyone must "like it" to keep the info visible. Criminal charges are a must - he had a gun, the ability and training to use it, the opportunity and stated intent with DEATHS THREATS MADE

I don't believe any license holder has any duty to tell a police officer unless they are told to exit the vehicle. I also don't feel the police have a right to remove your weapon from you during a simple stop. You have a right to keep and bear arms this is my view. Unless you are asked to step out I see no reason to inform the officer. After seeing the permit they should know you have been checked.

Looks to me like the city is going to be sued and the cop will lose his job but we'll have to see.
