this boy feels the gypsy tune and still he knows that he's playing classical piece. way better then perlman - more soul and more fire. this boy will go far in either gypsy or classical music. as long as he's not loosing his musical charm
I think the way he's trying to impress us is the fact that he has such fantastic technique at such a young age. Vibrato comes with musical maturity, which comes from overall physical and mental maturity, so it will be developed. It's actually quite a performance, although not comparing to any of the professionals. The tone is incredible for his age (I assure you if you saw a video of higher recording quality, it would sound better). Just wait a few years - he'll play it perfectly then.
For the age amazing to even thin about a piece like Zigenerweisen. But I would have to say alot of the notes and harmonics were off. Overall I very much enjoyed the performance and with some practice Ill be sure to see you as the next Joshua Bell!
Impressionnant techniquement vu le jeune âge.Mais trop jeune justement,semble-t-il, pour que la musique trouve sa place.Dans quelques années.Bonne route,Enfant!
saying your hands are too big is pretty ridiculous...perlman's hands are really big and he has long fingers...oistrakh (enough said)...they all have big hands, you don't hear them complaining that it holds them back
You have great technique. Yes, there are places out of tune and you skipped measures, but all-in-all it was a great performance. Keep going! You are really talented.
thats exactly true most are forced to do it because of their culture. I was so pissed when i tried out for this violin competition in middle school at how all the ones who made it were asian but my senior year of high school at the same competition there were only two they grow up and finally realize that they they don't love the music.
Lol hes not playing in tempo, if you are going to perform at least make it perfect and no offense to him, great player but boy needs to learn to balance his playing. The out of tuneness, he seems to do it just to do it, not to perfect and actually improve.
So goes my opinion. I dont play violin! Its impossible for my gynormous hands, so I play Bass. All respects for the boy.
you're just jealous. Also, college, education are really important to is. Is it wrong to do something enriching and enjoyable, that will also help your future? jeez.
You're right...the final part he missed every single left hand pizzicato and his harmonics are off too. Also he has tons of out of tune notes and even some wrong notes. He is good for his age though.
he's eleven and this piece is just to hard for him to play it good, so wait with this till he is 15 and let him play pieces that he can play nice and good
Good intrepretation of Gypsy Airs. Well Done. For those haters, c'mon guys, just give this little boy a break he is just 11 years old. If u are reallt good sure post a video reply how good you are compared to this telanted kid. I'll totally agree he can be heifetz one day. Bravo.
This is amazing for an 11 year old. I am 16 and still think this piece is tough, bhut I can play it just as well as him. Keep up the good work kid, and you'll make something out of this skill.
wow this is amazing. for 11 of course. well, im actually 13 right now and im playing malaguena! yea. i've been playing for 3 years only. anyways very very good! i wish to play this in the future
This boy is extraordinary gifted and for his age it's a absolutely outstanding performance. Calvin,do not look on bad incompetent comments, believe in yourself!
HOLY CRAP THIS KID IS AMAZING!!! anyone who said that this piece was too hard for him to play is most likely extremely jealous. hes playing my dream "concerto", if its considered as one. well done!
Calvin: absolutly wonderful. Please, do us all a favor and never give up on it. You could be the next Heifitz...well, maybe :) But to all the people who criticized him, he will get better(even better) as time goes on. He might not be even at a full size violin at the moment(which greatly enhance the sound) Great job and good luck. =)
The kid is great! He is apparently extremely talented. All of you who experience some sort of pleasure for criticizing this kid are frustrated musicians yourselves. Don't you remember when you were young? I bet that none of you can play this piece in a decent way even now - as mature musicians. this kid will be big and known and you will always remain in the shadow of your own frustration.
ok seriously everyone who thinks that this kid shouldnt have played it should seriously go to hell. dude, he's freaking what, like 11? lets see you guys try better then. jeez give him a break
Oh I agree with you!!! For his age, he does play it very very good!!!! I mean I couldnt play this piece so well as he can when I was that old... Does anyone here who criticizes him, thinks this is an easy piece??? I will tell you what, no it's not!!!!
So kid, keep up the good work!! You do it great! Bravo!
Holy Heaven!!! For God's sake, do not forget it is just a kid! Let him grow up, and, I am sure, you will hear about him some day in the future as about technically perfect and emotionally persuasive . Holy Heaven!!! For God's sake, do not forget it is just a kid! Let him grow up, and, I am sure, you will hear about him some day in the future as about technically perfect and emotionally persuasive violinist.
That kid's doing real well and should keep up the good work.
Having that said, a young kid playing a difficult violin piece; prodigy or not, it's such an old, worn tired cliche that it's nothing special. They're a dime a dozen anymore. The same goes for not just music, but anything.
Zigeunerweisen is one of the most difficult gypsy pieces (lvl 6, i think). I do praise him for his performance, but you people have to keep in mind that this little boy has probably been playing since he was three. So he's have about six or seven years to be able to accomplish this, which is not so bad considering children learn faster than adults. Some intonation problems, but it was good.
Technically, he was remarkably sound for a kid his age, but I feel that he's just not mature enough to give it the right musicality. It's not his fault, but I feel that you need to have a certain degree of experience and maturity in order to be able to infuse the piece with passion to take it to the next level.
wow,Zigeunerweisen is not an easy piece, and it's too complicated(muscially) for a child at this age! but what he is doing is really amazing, this is the most passion and expressian that you possibly can get from a 9-10 year old little boy.and "carloslaran", don't compare him with Sarah Chang at his age because the level is way different. Sarah is a child prodigy but this little boy is simply very talented and a very gifted child.
very impressive. whenever i see a talented kid, i have mixed feelings. on one hand, it is a joy seeing talent and hardwork paying off at an early age. on the other, there is so much more to life than just being good or even great in violin. i hope this kid get over to julliard/curtis soon and at the same time develops other interests besides violin.
He's definitely very good for his age, and is deserving of the praise he's receiving, but I have to say that no 9 or 10 year old should be playing Zigeunerweisen. Let him mature more so that he can understand what he's playing and actually do something with it. Should be in his teens.
Today was the first time I had every heard the works of Sarasate. This was my introduction to this piece. I loved it. I was shocked at how well it was played. I expected a little homemade recital piece. I want to see this boy play when he grows up. He could really set the world on fire.
this kid is amazing for his age, give him some slack. if a 17-year-old student plays like this, then you could say "practice more before you even think about recording a video," but this kid is young
On the other hand though, he's no Sarah Chang, lol. By his age, Sarah was already famous, earning high salaries, and playing solo with professional orchestras around the world
It's true the intonation is off in places, but I'm sure that will become perfect in not so much time. It's great watching and seeing him play with passion, confidence and relaxed control (irrespective of his age) - these are surely the essential things at his age.
In contrast you (jeongalex) are a disgrace, posting a recording of Garrett playing Pag/Cap 24 and claiming it's ur own.
we don't know that this kid is 9 or ten, but lets just assume that he is. Now everyone knows that Sarah Chang was a prodigy who went to work with Zubin Mehta at age 8, she made her debut CD with tracks inclduing the sarasate carmen fantasy which is just as hard as the zig, at age 12. now do you realize what you are saying? or are u just some ignorant fool who is stupid enough to say that he plays like sarah chang at her age?
let me rephrase myself, i didn't mean to say that she was taught by zubin mehta, but had worked with him, who at that time was the conductor of the NY Phil. She actually studied with Dorothy DeLay at age 7 in Julliard. And let me say that DeLay has taught itzhak perlman, midori, gil shaham, and more.
