This is like... jazz/contemp with some hip hop flavor. Choreographers on this show often shape their choreography around their dancers.

That would explain why there's not a lot of hard hitting moves here.

this was definately hip hop. just cause it wasn't booty poppin', doesnt mean it isn't hip hop. there is lots of different styles. they had amazing isolation.

there are different types of hip hop. and it's good that there are mixtures of dance, not just straight jazz, straight contemporary, straight whatever. at the core, this is still hip-hop. it would be more obvious if you do the dance steps to a more "typical" hip hop song.

It's not generic hip hop, but it's hip hop. The only reason why it looks jazz-like is because they used her flexibility in the piece and there are a few carries =P. There are isolations in there, and they have the raw swagger down that is used in hip hop, but definitely not in any other type of dance.

Once again; this is not a hiphop routine and has nothing to do with hiphop.

Hiphop dancing is a umbrella term of many dance styles and social dances.

This routine is pure contemporary or jazz witch is no where near anything that has to do with hiphop.

@bboygretzky This is actually closer to what most people would call Urban Jazz or simply Hip Hop Jazz which takes the groundedness of hiphop with the slides, waves, etc and blends it with the technique of jazz. In So you Think You can dance Canada, they usually make the distinction of Hip Hop and Urban Jazz, although they don't seem to in the states.

@bboygretzky finally someone that knows what hip hop is.... i just wanted to ask you... do you agree that they are ruining the image of hip hop on this show, i mean the marvin gaye routine was a mess..... the alicia keys was more jazz/contemporary just the the "if i were a boy" routine and then you have the weird ass "monster" routine coupled with the two ludacris routines that were ok at best. The only good routine is the one with Alex and Twitch... they are ruining hip hops image !!!!

@inla123 I respect yours opinion. Mine is that there is no such thing as "lyrical hiphop" as they claim this is. All cyphers, events I've been to, I've seen and danced with both really good dancers and beginners, but all of em are dancing hiphop. If they have to categorize this, they should call it as it is.. "contemporary" ! The reason why i think so: All the study, background, history, word of mouth i've gotten since i started dancing tells me so, so i stick with my own opinion for now.

The routine's themselves, yes, Pasha's individual performances in those routine's, no. With Lacey when he had his part in the beginning his dancing worked because it played to the character (a dork doing Hip Hop) but when it came to the section where they both had to do synchronized choreography he wasn't good at all. He did a better job keeping up in the Transformers routine but still the actual Hip Hop portion was carried more by Lauren. But the routines were so good it didn't matter

Noelle is sweet and cute so it's hard to see her in a sexy role. That's why her salsa seemed unnatural.
