  • Heavily poked out notes, very little sense of line or singing, unable to decide between bathos or hysteria.......Not the best of this pianist. She always played better when she wore totally flat shoes!

  • @NOSEhow2LIV I go even further. The way she modified stuff in this piece is ridiculous.

  • Horrible. Listen to the Novaes to hear how it should be done...

  • @operascenestudy YES!!!!! YES^!!!!!!!!! TOtally agreed.Guiomar Novaes makes your heart cry. it is really superbe. This here is shit.

  • Comment massacrer un tel joyau de musicalité par une interprétation affectée,"gourmée" pleine de décalages désagréables. Il n'y a plus d'émotion ni d'intériorité. Voir Wild .

    C. Bourgeaux

  • À côté de la plaque .... Accompagnement ... Interprétation affectée insupportable ...

  • definitely in the underworld...........

  • Quel dommage qu'une si grande artiste ne respecte pas l'intériorité de cette oeuvre profonde et pathétique ! On n'a pas trop envie de communier avec cette musique. Ah Rachmaninoff !!!

  • She is playing this piece not for Gluck but for NYCB with George Balanchine in Chaconne.

  • Hard to gauge her unique interpretation. Bad recording.

  • @debbyplayer

I think the microphones are waaay too close. I was listening live to this at RFH, but sitting at the back. It turned my gut inside out. It sounded very tender and sensual especially in contrast with previous works played.

Rather different impression when I listen to this recording

  • In my opinion her phrasing is really bad, her touch is heavy, her expression is insensitive.

  • @debbyplayer

I agree, but could be the microphones are too close. L.H. is way heavy. I also don't like how the bass notes interupt the musical line rhythmically. Sound is definitley percussive. - not am iota of tenderness.

  • @maestrojimbo: yes, the sound is probably corrupted by microphones, but it is really percussive. There is also a overwhelming use of rubato at each measure of the score.... too much to be really expressive...

  • @debbyplayer

Yes, it really doesn't have any hint that this is a "dance" form, does it. Kissin has a rather odd way of playing this - way too slow and not appealing to my tastes either.

  • @maestrojimbo

Have you heard Mark Hambourg play this? - wonderful!

  • In my opinion, you should drown yourself.

    Imbecile!

  • @marburg9

Dear friend, thank you for your kind and enlightened comment :-)

  • @debbyplayer I agree :-) Have not heard anyone do justice to this piece except for Rach. His interpretation is surreal - an understatement on my part - no other way to describe Rachmaninoff :-))

  • @Bret6464 if you have not hear anyone do justice to this piece, listen to Guiomar Novaes.

  • @pianistPT Thanks :-) I heard Novaes' play it a few days ago and I liked it a lot and I have begun to listen to more from her. Nelson Freire's interpretation of this is also beautiful - and then there is Rachmaninoff's that is absolutely surreal :-)

  • LONDON SISTER , i love this great movie !!
