  • This is horrible sry

  • sorry to say, but I think that Rascal Flatts did it better :-/

  • OMG, Has almost 20 years past since...........

  • Guy on keyboards looks boss

  • GENIUS

  • man, she can HOLLER!!!!!!!!!

  • Couldn't they make the mic louder, so that he didn't have to chew it XD

And the song is awesome =D

I was born at the dusk of all the best XX could offer. Dunno if I should be glad I saw a bit of it or sad cause now I live in a much darker time... time of noise, not music anymore =(

  • What was the point of him having a guitar he used it for like 2 seconds

  • Sigh I'm board 

  • I think the band could have a little tighter that night.

  • wow, the original is better and this was a great performance, basically they tore that shit up, love this song!!!

  • I remember this performance. I video taped it and played it to death. Definitely one of the greatest cuts of 90's. Remake is garbage, but I'm glad it made Tom some loot.

  • 3:15 geddy lee inspired bass molestation?

  • I LOVE Tom Cochrane;s version.. You can't sing, play the hamonica, AND the guitar ALL at the same time! he he... I , myself, can't do ANY of those three! Classic tune!

  • Funny how he has the guitar strapped on but he doesn't play until the last 10 seconds of the song. Kinda pointless

  • It's different because it's a live performance...none other like it...it's a chart topper across the border which isn't very far away for me fortunately.

  • Paul!

  • Can somebody tell why he not play on his guitar ???

  • @P0wer2R0ll And it's a PRS....

  • life is what you make it....fuck highways!

  • Best travel song there is :-D

  • did he even play his guitar?

  • @CabeIsFly No. Purely ornamental. Like Elvis.

  • dude, gotta love the chemistry between tom and the other singy-aldy, she's pretty baller i gotta say

  • y did he wear a guitar he did'nt play it

  • This is Tom's song, know him and when it came out it didn't get the air play it should have. One the best songs to come out of Canada. Now will all you Americans just f--- off and give your head a shake.

  • it always cracks me up when an artist composes a song and sings it well,

and then people say this person or that person does it better. the other fucking people wouldn't be singing this song if tom didn't write it. that's where the talent

comes from people. it's a good song.

  • lol i looked it up and i told my dad it was rascal flatts and he said well check again its tom cochrane and lol there was like 5 results

  • @Amozon28 check the date. Tom Cochrane been around a lot longer than rascal flatts. The original is the best. Tom Cochrane no doubt!

  • Chris Ledou version is lots better than all of them

  • no rascal flatts version is diffrent they both have their merits boy this dude can sing live

  • the lead guitarist in the flatts could sing this better than him.

  • OMG I REMEMBER WATCHING THIS LOL :)

  • he didn't touch his guitar, did he?

  • Look im not a flatts fan .. but rascal flatts version is so much better than this , just accept it guys

  • @deerslayer647 first off yeah right that's why i've made out with 4 girls.............one that i actually waz dating.........yeah sure gay.f u u gay ass mother fucker, i will kick your ass any day bicth............

  • ok.....he's good but rascal flatts is more famous, just look at the difference in music vid veiw.................................tom/434,431 to flatts/10,473,617 no joke bicthes

  • @237rascalflatts are you fucken gay

  • Rascal Flatts Version = Better, more popular version of Life is a Highway. Just saying...research it.

  • @hollerbacktyler wronge biggggggg time rascal flatts is jast a gay boy band

    tom= epic

    rascal flatts= gay fags

  • @deerslayer647 Gay Boy Band? Thats why they are all married with Children and sing nothing like an Nsync etc. They are the number one selling Band in any Genre this last decade...quit being a hater cause they are doing stuff that you and I only dream of. They did a better job of this song....thats the end of it. The statistics show

  • @hollerbacktyler i respect your opinion and all, but what difference does it make that the rascall flats version is more popular? how can popularity make it 'better'? call me a hipster but ussually it's the other way around lol. anyways, im just sayin as well, so don't take offence and go on a rampage of homophobic slurs like the rest of these commenters hahaha

  • @hollerbacktyler Tom Wrote it, its his song its just cause it is not pretty enough for the americans that they got the rascal flats to sing it!!!!

  • Like it, thanks !!!

  • Still laughing at the idiot who called Tom Cochrane a one hit wonder, are you kidding me?

  • Umm...I like both versions.

  • Nice, does a line of coke before makin his entrance

  • can he play guitar ? LOL

  • @mikeyspikey12 Uh, yeah he can, he's a very good guitarist. But this song's chorus doesn't line up with the chords if you listen carefully... the chords are off-set. He's probably focusing on harmonica and singing. I've heard him play this song solo acoustic, but I can't sing and play this song either... try it yourself. The chorus chords start in between words.

  • @mondoguitar Its not that hard to sing and play it at the same time..its not that difficult to play :/

  • @mondoguitar And im not very good at guitar :L

  • @mikeyspikey12 I'd like to see a video of you singing the chorus and playing the chords in perfect timing, if it's that easy. I've been playing guitar 15 years and even I have to concentrate on what I'm doing. The Dm doesn't fall exactly on the word "LIFE"... it's offset. Good luck.

  • @mondoguitar well how come the other guitarist managed to sing and play at the same time?

  • @mikeyspikey12 I didn't say it's impossible, I said it's hard... still waiting for your video proving you can do it with power chords. And he's the lead guitarist only singing back-up. I've seen Tom Cochrane play this song solo acoustic, so he can play it just fine...

Let's see you, you said you could do it :) I don't think you can.

  • @mondoguitar i never said id do a video you cock! and if he did do it 'solo acoustic' then prove it? send the vid?

  • @mikeyspikey12 grow up 12 yr old

  • Simply a KILLER song, with great changes and one of the BEST vocal choruses ever!. And the Chick Singer is the icing on the cake. Not to mention the House Band, Paul, Anton, Paul and Will driving it home.

  • Love those 1 hit wonders!

  • @tinclunge1234 1 hit wonders???!!! You're NOT Canadian, eh? He's had LOTS of hits.... just NOT in the States so much... We know him very well....

  • @tinclunge1234 1 hit wonder?? Are you kidding?? LOL! Tom Cochrane has released over 15 albums and has had a tonne of hits in Canada/USA over a 30 year career! Do your research. "Good Times", "Boy Inside The Man", "Big League" (a hockey anthem!), "Sinking Like a Sunset", "Wish You Well", "Washed Away", "Lunatic Fringe", "White Hot" and a hundred more. You can purchase his box set on Amazon. Pretty amazing to have a box set from a one-hit wonder! hahaha.

    Gotta love ignorant people :)

  • Folks just enjoy the words!!

  • Well, the guitar was pretty much for the look it seems. He only played a few closing chords lol

  • Hey its those old NON-ENVORNMENTAL cd cases.

  • @bookmdano And learn how to spell!!

  • @mrballbuster1964 Ok Dickhead

  • He seemed to goof up a bit at the beginning, but only the original will ever be best! I can't stand Rascal Flatts' cover, too much twang for me, hurts my ears

  • @bricabrac85 Looks like they cut time off the intro and he wasn't prepared for it, but he makes a nice recovery and owns the song like Rascall Flats never will be able to.

  • that girl in the background was awesome!

  • Comment removed

  • @windpotato Indeed see was awesome at 2:59 until the end of the song.

  • its cool but i prefer Rascal Flatts version

  • Who cares which one is better, it's a matter of opinion. They're both excellent, I personally like Tom's version better, original usually dominates, rascall flatt's made it a close competition though.

The point is, there's no reason to bash either version.

  • My god! la fille à toute une voix!

  • the original is usually the best. however, a new version comes along that can rival the original.. but the original is the best.

  • I REALLY prefer Rascal Flatts' version

  • @alejoroca5

    bahhahhahahahaha

  • Rascal Flatts' cover of this song is nowhere near as good as the original. For one, Tom Cochrane wrote the song and two, his gritty vocals sound better than the overproduced country vocals of the latter.

  • @MassacreBlast I happen to disagree, sorry...my personal taste :)

  • @kreugfire926 i bet you suk da cock too, personal taste brah

  • @Theateam911 Really? your trolling me? really? jeez, not everyone has to like the same music.

  • @MassacreBlast and of course, rascal flats don't play the instrument, which in my opinion made this song so great, the Harmonica which adds even more greatness to the song, i agree cochrane wipes the floor with any cover of this song

  • @NotYourAverageJoe321 - Oh yeah, can't forget the harmonica! Wasn't too aware of the Flatts cover to bother to notice.

  • He put alot of emotion into this performance i love it!

  • Tom's very nice , very 90's song!

    Awesome!

  • Chris Ledoux was the best.

  • life's highway.. i wantna ride it all night long..

  • i dont think it was a bad performance

  • wow he really fucks up going into the 1st verse. Looks like they're playing the radio edit version, and he's playing the album version with the extended harmonico solo/intro.

  • @ChicagoDCfan I think he pulls in nicely though :)

  • tom's all about rockin, and nothing else

  • ho fuck his band messe up so baddd!!

  • WOOW that BAld dude at 3:30 XDXD

  • tom cochrane is my uncle. my name is jacob t-w for short. his name is crist ticehurst.

  • Tell you uncle to get a god damn hair cut.

  • tom cochrane's real name is crist ticehurst

  • @decdup In the quite words of the virgin mary, come again?

  • Why does he have a guitar ? He's not even touching it ! NIce song tought.

  • @G05Box because everything goes better with guitar. like bacon.

imagine what wouldve happened if jimi hendrix set his guitar on fire, then cooked some bacon on it. i rest my case.

  • Catchy song!

  • I'm easily twice the age of most of you, so...

Yes, that is Paul Schaffer pre-head shave. To see him w/a full head of hair, look up SNL clips from the first season or so. He was the SNL musical director pre-Letterman.

And "earlyblue", that is your opinion. I am not 'saying' this is great. But you obviously have no idea what it takes to be a band member for shows such as this. Did you realize the intro is somehow messed up, yet they all covered and sailed thru like nothing happened? You try it.

  • Jam it!

  • you gotta appreciate that it isn't playback

  • The Keyboard player look a little bit like The Critic...

  • @LiberationArmy you mean the guy who appears to be Paul Shaffer (or may not be him?)

  • Hi mate, I dunno who is Paul Shaffer, I did mean the character "The Critic", who used to apppear in the Simpsons. well, the Keyboard Player reminds me to him somehow...

  • lol I think you mean Jon Lovitz

  • very nice ha the key board player

  • I love this song! This video is awesome!!

  • First cassette tape that I ever bought. I love this original version of this song. He needs more credit for this song.

  • the younger letttermen how great is that!

  • haha wow! That keyboard player is awesome looking!

  • Very nice video. No wonder the movie cars was a success, everything was well put together!!!

  • the keyboarder :-D nice shirt, dude! :-D

  • thats pretty cool for 1992

  • Piosenka jednego z moich ulubionych okresów. Podoba mi się bardzo.

  • Rascal Flatts was great at performing this too in my opinion.

And this song is sooo good! Love it! Reminds me of summer. Sun, the warm wind, warm summer rain... the beach and the sea... :)

  • hahahaha fuck i cant believe thats letterman hahaha thats so funny!!

  • Who is the female back-up singer? What a soulful sound!

  • Felicia Simmons i believe.

  • Were all of the people performing Canadian?

  • this song belongs to tom he is the best

    rascal flatts sucks

  • @diegobernal28 This isn't Rascal Flatts song that's why they ain't as good as tom, but Rascal Flatts are amazing

  • Rascal Flatts is just a boy band that is called country. But either way they make excellent songs......along with Tom

  • man der was no need for him to hav a guitar in dat song lol

  • I noticed that to.

  • WOW they all were way gettin into it!

  • really dont see the point of haveing that awsome paul reed smith just hanging there, and not useing it.. just stupid..

  • He played the last 2 chords

  • Tom is a rocker, This is a rock song. Rascal Flats should stick to country........

  • @xyxyu2 not much difference these days anyway

  • @xyxyu2 True....But just because they did the song better and made it more famous than the original! It is way better! PLUS, in agreement with you statement partially. MOST Country singers or singers in general are good at THEIR type of music, I agree. My Gary Levox can sing dang near any style of music. Research some of his songs, why he did Boston, Free Ride. etc. He is amazing singer. Don't take the from them. Now you like what you like, fair, but don't deny, by views alone that it is better.

  • Original always the best.

  • there are only 2 songs that the covers are better than the origionals they are pretty woman and you really got me both covered by van halen

  • Van Halen is probably the best band of all time in making covers more exciting than the originals........VH also covered "You're No Good" by Betty Everett & Linda Ronstadt and "Ice Cream Man" by John Brim........smoking hot covers that are way better than the originals !!

I also think VH cover of "Dancing in the Street" had that signature Halen sound, but the original version by Martha and the Vandellas is still better.

  • The start was shit. Sigh. But epic singing by Tom. And the chorus was TIGHT. :)

  • what key is the harp?

  • It's C, isn't it?

  • this song is amazing.....great performance too

  • Excellent except the beginning where Tom misses the first line haha

  • wow, the girl´s amazing !!!

what happened in the beginning? untight, and he harped into the first verse. how refreshing to see a band be human.

  • i think they cut the intro for TV purposes. He probly got confused.

  • awesome.

  • kind of james brown moves at 2:55

is he in love with the black singer? he should

  • I disagree.

  • Glad to see Tommy making good use of that PRS....

  • this is an original version

  • its ok

  • Really ? I think this sounds better than Rascal Flats. Just my opinion.

  • I agree with you. I mean I like both, but this is the one I play the most.

  • Screw the inro,it's a good song with a good performance

  • even with the bad harmonica intro the song rocks on this live version

  • Is everyone really this clueless? The song is not messed up at all. It's just a slight bit of improvisation at the beginning on the harmonica, anticipating the count, like when someone does a run on the guitar on the 3 count... jeez, if it isn't exactly the same as the album you people think it is screwed up. That's how live music works. Get out and see a show!

  • @ptolemyauletesXII

    I quite agree!

  • Wtf, Lettermans hair has colour?! x)

  • It was Tom Cochrane who messed up in the beginning. Listen to the drum intro. Tom came in with his harmonica too early. He came in off beat. And a guitar player hit a string by accident before the intro roll. Listen carefully first, man. And Paul didn't cut the song short. It was probably the arrangement they agreed upon for this performance. That's what they do. This is a tv show, not a concert. They do rehearse this before the show so they do know how the song will go.

  • you see, that's why i never liked that hack on the keyboards. He screwed up the song at the start and cut off the harmonica entrance and at the end he ended the damn song. what an ass. As usual, tom pro's it up and I'll bet not too many people realized it. He didn't even show anger, but you could see a smile when he walks over during the last few notes to keys and smiles at him like :you screwed up dude! hate that key player...

  • I was wondering what happend at the start of the song, after I read your message and listened again i see what you are saying.

  • Rascal Flatts' version doesn't hold a candle to Cochrane's early 90's version

  • agreed...

  • Yeah, I don't think I heard a harmonica in that version. D:

  • Love this song and love Tom Cochrane

  • simply the greatest upbeat song ever!

  • great song
