  • On the arpeggio at the end of the 32nd notes, are the notes played as false harmonics?

  • this should have a million views, you sir are hugely talented. i am learning this etude at the moment and you've given me a much better idea of what I'm aiming for. thank you!!

  • So, I have a question for anyone who's worked on this: The high C at about 0:25 is marked as a harmonic (fingering of 3 or 0) in my edition of the Popper etudes. However, there is no C harmonic, just a C#. I don't have perfect pitch so I can't tell, but is the note actually supposed to be a C or a C#?

  • @symphonicrevolution I just checked my music, schirmer's edition, and it's the same as you say. My answer is, it's definitely a C natural. I do have perfect pitch and Joshua plays a C natural. My teacher's also never corrected me.. happy to help.

  • @symphonicrevolution i listened to this video and joshua plays it as a C natural :] hope that helps!

  • @symphonicrevolution

The harmonic is a false harmonic on c. It's an octave harmonic, you have your thumb down on C5, and the finger lightly touches C6 and it makes it sound as a harmonic. It's like playing the A harmonic on open a string, except the string is not open. It acts in the same way though, since it is an octave stretch between the fundamental note (C5) and the harmonic note (C6). C isn't a natural harmonic on cello, so we cellist have to make it a harmonic.

  • how old are you, if you are young enough, you should try out for juilliard pre-college but I don't know how old you are, you might already be in college or conservetory so yeah, if you are younger than 18 you should try out

  • @cellogirl255 I think he is already out of conservatory; He was a principal cellist of the Seattle Symphony!

  • @cellogirl255 He's a touring soloist! So I think past conservatories...

  • @cellogirl255 this guy should be teaching at juilliard more like!

  • @cellogirl255

He's 26, former principal cellist of the Seattle Symphony with a successful international solo career. No disrespect, but I'm sure he's flattered.
