i dont wanna sound like a bastard but i never liked pat burrell, especially after he left the phillies because he wanted more than a 2 year 22 million dollar contract and then got wat he deserved with the rays for 2 year 16 million, he stabbed us in the back and i'm glad he's gone, anyone who sells out the phillies will be replaced easily in my heart, raul ibanez, good job buddy
If there is 1 thing I wish could've gone with Pat Burrell finally recieving his Championship here in Philly, it's Brian Dawkins finally recieving a Championship as a Philadelphia Eagle. That would've been perfect, & if there was anyone else in this city who deserve to taste a Championship, it was Brian Dawkins-(all Philadelphia sports fans know what I'm talking about). Good luck in Tampa Bay Pat, & good luck in Denver Brian. We'll miss you both, & it's been a pleasure 2 watch both of you play...
I'm an Eagles fan, but I must saw I was kinda relieved that they didn't win the super bowl this year. If they got there and won it, I can almost guarantee this town would overlook the phillies winning the world series. also, I'm glad the phillies won a championship before the eagles.
Good point, I agree, the World Series win would've been overlooked. Whether Phillies fans admit it or not, this is still a football town. I think it's ironic that the Phillies won it all before the Eagles considering the phils went 14 years between playoff berths-(93-07), & The Eagles have been to the NFC Championship game 5 times this decade. The Phils have shown a strong commitment 2 winning ever since '03, when there were plans 2 open Cit.Bank.Park, & they went after Jim Thome in free agency.
With the Eagles, eventhough they've consistantly won games, the only year they went balls out in free agency is '04-(they went after Javon Kearse & T.O.). It's a shame because most teams that get 2 a Super Bowl & lose by 3 points try 2 keep the team together & add the extra piece 2 put them over the top. That's why it hurts that we made it 2 the NFC Championship game again this year, but yet we let Dawkins, Buckhalter, Thomas, Lewis, Runyan-(probably), all leave, & we still need a WR as well...
Since I'm a diehard Philly sports fan, it hurts that sometimes I think Andy Reid & the whole Eagles franchise is cocky, when they talk 2 the media, with the coaching, etc. They Phillies are more fan-friendly, from Charlie Manuel on down 2 the players. Part of it could be that Jeffrey Lurie & this ownership group aren't from around here, while Ed Montgomery is, so theres that sense of hometown starvation for a title-(kinda like how it was wonderful that Jamie Moyer is from here & he got a title).
That's why it was inevitable the Phils beat the Eagles 2 the punch, & when I attended Game 4 of the World Series last year, when I went down Broad St. 2 party on 10/29/08, & when I went 2 the Phillies Championship Parade on 10/31/08, you could tell that this franchise will try 2 win another one, if not 4 themselves, 4 us, the fans. The Eagles sometimes seem, they don't exactly care about a title, just as long as they're competitive, the merchandise sells & there's 60,000 fans on the waiting list
1 thing a team never gets tired of is winning, because it's a taste that never gets old, or goes sour,so that's why The Phils will always hold a soft spot in my heart because I'm 30 yrs.old, & I was 5 yrs.old when the 76ers won it all-(so i don't remember it) & in '08 I finally attended a Championship Parade 4 my team,I didn't have 2 hear "City of losers" anymore,& the moment Victorino smacked a GrandSlam Homer off of C.C.Sabathia,I knew we had a legitimate chance 2 have a dream season,& we did.
Great vid "cj12380," Pat also started crying during the ring ceremony today, what an ovation he recieved. He's a classic ballplayer, & a standup guy. I'm not sure if any of you seen the fullpage "Open letter to Phillies fans" that he took out in The Phila. Daily News a month ago, but it was extremely classy, & attending that parade on 10/31/08 & seeing him on Broad St. was a thrill. Good Luck in Tampa Bay Pat, we'll miss you & you'll always be a Philadelphia Phillies player in my eyes.
So Glad everyone has enjoyed the video, I actually cut it off a little too early, at the end you couldve seen Pat in the rays dugout with tears in his eyes watching it out of the rays dugout before he turned away and came out to tip his cap.
i miss him so much!
