  • the song and the artist has brought tears to my eyes...See the movie and you will weep too....

  • I really miss the old songs. They had so much more 'heart' in the music, lyrics and performances.

  • My God, I love this woman's voice! BTW, Anyone who loves this should check out her version of "My Own True Love" - the theme to Gone with the Wind... just magnificent. Thank you for posting this video of a consummate artist!

  • Just wish I could get a copy of the film by same name. It was my late Mum's favourite and held special meaning for us both. Seems its only available on DVD in USA.

  • Fabulous!! Incredibly beautiful!!!

  • Beautiful voice ~ what a wonderful singer

  • beautiful

  • Better than ITunes version! I competed with Great Northern Union Barbershop Chorus with My Foolish Heart & There Goes My Heart, two of the greatest. More on my list of "world's greatest songs ever": It Could Happen To You, Look For The Silver lining, My Heart Tells Me, Two For The Road (MONICA Mancini-ITunes!), I Wish I Didn't Love You So, Stardust, With A Son In My Heart, When The World Was Young, White Cliffs Of Dover (Vera Lynn's voice!), I'll BE Seeing You, Last Night When We Were Young!

  • love this version I have it and play it a lot

  • Fantastic

    Vic White

  • Has anyone heard GUILTY by Margaret Whiting? I have the record but no player.

  • @handnheart2002 I will try to get more of her work on to youtube....no worries

  • I've tried bunch of singers' different versions, and among them, this is by far the best.

  • Look up Victor Young, the composer of this beautiful melody, and you'll see this guy had many more such melodies to his credit. Sheer genius.

  • I'm not old (honest) but THIS is when MUSIC was MUSIC.

What happened? Pop music was fine, and I know that every young generation has it's own music - but, I feel sorry for really young people today....

  • Versão italiana: Estasi d'amore

  • wonderful sound ***** janine

  • I just came from Netflix and watching "My Foolish Heart" and had to come here and hear the song again. It's so beautiful and the perfect music for the movie, because it set just the right mood.

  • I love these old songs! I grew up in the70's- 80's, youngest of 10, my parents were world war 2 generation, older siblings grew up 60's-70's and,so, I was exposed to all kinds of music. I appreciate lyrical ballads like this one and agree the old songs were better. I wish it was still more about talent than a beauty contest!

  • her father as a great writer music ran in her blood

  • A beautiful ballad of 'a long time ago'....they don't produce them,like this,anymore !

I was in my Royal Navy days,in the early fifties, when I first heard Margaret Whiting.....

    a lovely voice.....very clear and distinctive....and unforgettable.....I didn't realise she'd

passed away so recently.....RIP,Margaret....we remember you !!!

  • comofan100

    superb

  • Was this ever released to a record?, just wondering. cd's were not invented yet when this was recorded. ....

  • I came across this magnificent version by accident. For me this has to be the finest recording of this truly classic song . I must have listened to it countless times, and every time it gets better. Everything about the recording is incredible. The delicate balance between both the voice and orchestra is achieved with perfect controlled beauty. A gem that must be released on CD. Thanks.

  • One of my all -time favorite singers, it's a shame I never got to see her perform live. She was an amazing singer. R.I.P.

  • What a truely beautiful song and singer R.I.P Margaret they sure dont make em like this anymore SADLY thanks for posting this wonderful song.

  • R.I.P.

  • Thank you for this lovely posting by a beautiful singer. She has a warm singing voice and you can understand every word she sings. A great lady. She will be missed.

  • Rest in peace.

  • I've always loved Margaret Whiting's voice...so pure and natural, and there was such tenderness and kindness in it. Thank you for posting this. I was sad to hear that she had passed...and have spent today listening to her sing and reading about her.

  • too too beautiful---the days of romance and glamor are slipping by and will never be seen again

  • too too beautiful

  • Fantastic! RIP great lady--We will not know your likes again!

  • Life isn't worth living without music like this!!

  • beautiful. <3

  • Very beautiful voice! I like her voice. Thak you!

  • I was born in the 60's but I am so fascinated with 40's/50's songs like this one from Margaret Whiting. Do you believe in Reincarnation?

  • One of my favorites, thanks for sharing !!!!

  • What a smooth wonderful voice!! Thx 4 posting!!! Phyllis..

  • Thanks for posting.

  • Roberto Inglez grabó una versión para orquesta que no encuentro .... oh......

  • Thanks! Lovely version, although the better known one on the "Spotlight on" CD is one of my very favorites. That's a long list though, as for me, Margaret has the most beautiful voice in the history of pop music. I could listen to her sing "99 Bottles of Beer on the Wall" from start to finish and love every minute.

  • @myshkin71 ...Since I was a young boy, the heavenly voice of Margaret Whiting has always enthralled me. Her effortless purity of tone and phrasing is simply incomparable...she could sing the panties off every other female singer of the time, with the possible exception of Jo Stafford. Unfortunately, neither of these two were great beauties in the "looks" department, which hampered their careers somewhat. Margaret's version of this Victor Young classic takes my breath away. Thanks,"beyond".

  • my all time favorite song!!! and a wonderful version.....

  • It was singing along with her mum's Whiting records that most influenced Karen Carpenter's voice...Richard claimed this in a rare interview.!

  • Definitive.

  • I love this song! My Foolish Heart is one of my favorite movies. Does anyone know if Margaret Whiting's version was used in the movie?

  • @spc2583 hey - yes it was - in the scene on the balcony and she is the night club singer too. wish i could trak down a dvd version. still trying.

  • Margaret is still with us. A great talent who deserves far more credit.

  • Margaret Whiting apparently was Karen Carpenter's favourite singer when she listened to her parents' records! Can see why....

  • the best version of the song i have heard

  • what a gorgeous voice!

  • My favorite version of this classic standerd !

    Thanks !

    Cheers !

    Dave

  • Thank you!! She is one of the greats, and should be better known.

  • I adore Margaret Whiting!

  • Absolutely sublime!! Thank you for taking the time to put it on YouTube.

  • back agin to weep from it's beauty.

  • It is great, but this song belongs to John Gary

  • Glorious!

  • That is divine! Thank you so much for posting!

  • A most beautiful song and Miss Susan Hayward , her beautiful face, come to mind immediately upon the first cords of this theme to her Movie by the same name.

  • Susan Hayward was magnificent in this great love story, and was nominated for a 2nd of her 5 nominations ( and one win for I Want To Live)..this great movie is now somewhat overlooked but it is a great movie mostly due to Miss Hayward. Her likes do not exist in today's Hollywood. A beautiful rendtion by Miss Whiting and news to me that the fabulous Marilyn Monroe considered this song MM'sfavorite.

  • Such a pure voice, and her phrasing is just superb. Exquisite rendering of one of my favourite songs of all time.

  • This beautiful song has been my favorite since I was a child and heard it when I saw Dana Andrews and Susan Hayward in the movie My Foolish Heart. It is so beautiful and can make me cry easily. I did not know it was Marilyn Monroe's favorite song, that is nice to know. I have this song from Mindy Carson and it sounds the same. I am not sure who really sang the song in the movie, but I would love to know...

  • Wow! Is that true? Didn't know it was Marilyn's favorite song... For the past months it has been mine too.

    Thanks for the information!

  • Andieshrink: I read it many yrs. ago and then it was used in Marilyn: The Untold Story...fabulous...it was introduced by Martha Mears in the film 1949..Sinatra recorded it too...

  • asummerplace: the song was introduced in the film "my foolish heart" in 1949 by Martha Mears..as for being marilyn's fav, it was in the film for tv marilyn: the untold story with Catherine Hicks...I highly recommend it...ty for the fab post!

  • hey , Margaret Whiting sang it on the soundtrack to the movie- watched it with my dad on a sick day from school when I was 14 and cried for the first time at a movie- been in love with it ever since. Been trying to get it on dvd for years but cant! if I do I'll let you know

  • @RACHEL68100

Watch TCM for it - put in a request on their website to e-mail you when the play it - they have already played it a few times and I was lucky to be able to record it on dvd. I have it on VHS too. One of my favorite movies - Dana Andrews looked so dashing and handsome in his uniform and that scene in the elevator where he kisses Susan Hayward - oh my goodness I'm melting . . . . .

  • @Dana888dana hey you absolute star!!! thank you so much. you have no idea how much it would mean to me to be able to sit down and watch this again.....and cry buckets! thanks you kind lady.

  • @RACHEL68100

No problem! If you don't have much luck there, let me know and maybe I can figure out a way to make a copy for you if I can work it out. I know how it is to really want to see a movie (even one you saw as a child!). I now have just about every movie I ever wanted to see in my DVD collection.

  • @RACHEL68100

Hey Rachel - They're showing My Foolish Heart tonight on TCM - 3:45 a.m. Hawaii time but don't know your time. Hope you get a chance to tape it!!!!!

  • my beloved mother's favorite song...tears.....i'm a kid again...it was also marilyn monroe's favorite song for marilyn fans.....fabulous post........so many memories

  • absolutely beautiful...what a voice .... the best vocal rendition......love it

  • This is beautiful. She had a very nice voice. beautiful rendition.

  • I think Doris Day recorded this too. But I like this version a bit better.

  • so beautiful I have played this 10times

  • my favorite ALL time version of this song

  • A Big Surprise!

    this version sounds utterly beautiful.

Mindy Carson's version is my favorite though.

  • did connie francis listen to this gem before she recorded her version - both are beautifully sung, but also so alike

    klas/

  • i agree klas

this is alot like connies version, softer but very similar.

    a pretty song either way.

  • A wonderful song.

  • Great singer of the american popular songs of the 40''s &50''s...signed in by Capitol..and still going strong, born july 22,1924...daughter of composer Richard Whiting.........married and lately became a widow of Jack Wrangler ....a pornstar of the 70''s

  • love the movie-love this lovely rendition of the song.

  • Thank You, for posting this wonderful song it brings back a lot of memories and personally it has a ' special meaning ' for me. LindaLovesFranchot

  • Beautiful song...........Wonderful voice............"take care my foolish heart.........there's a line between love and fascination......". Thanks for posting.

  • I always thought she was married to a music arranger

  • I think it's the fiist time i heard her, very beautiful

  • Margaret Whiting has been a favorite of mine for years when I 'found' her on some TV show that was showcasing singers from the 40s and 50s. Not only is her voice exquisite on this song, but th arrangement is fantastic. Thank you for posting this.

  • To Margaret Whiting & Serene7 My apologies to you both. Mother always said "one should never assume". Looks like she's right one more time.

Would'nt it be wonderful to have tea with Margaret, & listen to all her stories. We would be in heaven. xxxx

  • marcyrick1

I just love the way this song is sung by Margaret Whiting. I actually broke down and cried while listening. We don't have music today, just a lot of junk and a lot of filth. I sure miss the 50s. I remember the movie, I was just a kid. MY FOOLISH HEART starring Dana Andrews and Susan Hayward. Great movie!!!

  • I like your words about the song and the way you felt/ feel. But I don't care at all for your favourite video about religion. A pity!

  • @Marcyrick1 Indeed, music today is el sucky dicko. Just like the politicians and entertainment. May all the druggy bands die of overdoses.

  • @Marcyrick1 I just missed the 50's (born in '52) but I'm so glad my mother made sure I was aware of the beautiful music and artist(e)s of these years, and those before them. This music also makes me teary, and I'm a 58yo fella who was in a rock'n'roll band in Melbourne in the 60's.This music will never die. Thanks for allowing me to comment.

  • I cannot recall ever looking up a Margaret Whiting song before, but after listening to the end of the movie "Julie and Julia" I'm looking for Time after Time by her. It was a most tender rendering of the song.

  • I was listening to a Frank Sinatra song "Time After Time'

&& I was mad because I accidently clicked the wrong video, it was this video.

Then I thought well I'll listen to it and I am in love.

    Best mistake I ever made.

  • Oh dear! What a talent gone, maybe the softest, clearest, voice ever. Makes us all feel soft & gooey, heh? and all is well with the world, simplistic, I know, but she is the 'BEST' Miss you Margaret J x

  • Margaret Whiting July 22, 1924 is still alive.

    a great singer.

  • Love this version, a truly emotional experience

  • A lovely melody and lyrics, sung by someone with real talent. Sadly, this is lacking in the "junk" that passes for music today. Thanks for posting it!

  • This song depicts the beginning and the later memories of true love

  • This is most likely my all time favorite song, I want Michael Buble to record it, this version is exquisite, thanks so much

  • when did this song come out? this sounds pretty good, even for a youngster like myself!

  • The song was very popular in the 1950s when several superb female singers recorded it!

  • I never get tired of hearing this song....Beautiful!!!

  • her heavenly majesty bless miss whiting...,gorgeous

  • I could listen to her music all night. She brings back so many romantic memories of my past. thank you

  • Me too. Loved her then...still do.

  • Margaret Whiting is still alive! Her music will live on forever. Her character was sweet. This song brought a bunch of tears to my eye.

  • some songs are just plain great no matter who is singing--i have this by the ames brothers(smoochin'time lp)-never get tired of it--and i just discovered miss whiting's version of 'right in your own back yard..

  • Sing to Jack in Heaven. My condolences

  • This is one great song, and Margaret Whiting sings it beautifully. Thank you so much, beyondtheforest, for sharing this with all of us on YouTube.

  • The first time I heard this was in 1962.

Still brings a tear to my eye, and it was a lovely movie.

  • My condolences are with you Margaret now at the time of Jack's death. You sing this song beautifully! No music of this calibre exists today, except from people like you.

  • Wonderful rendition, thank you ! And tbk5799 please take heart - your's is the generation of internet & youtube that allows us to rediscover these musical treasures & bring them back into the main stream. There are groups that do this stuff everywhere - search out your local jazz club, become a member, support jazz artists and ENJOY!!! PS I also love my neighbor Eminem etc etc. If it's got a groove it's good.

  • my generation sucks

    music is horrible.

    i wish i lived then.

  • Music was awesome back then. I wish I was born a little earlier too.

  • lol agreed

    the 90s were okay though

  • Margaret Whiting sings so very beautiful! The very first recording of her I ever listened to was "It Might As Well Be Spring" from 1947. I love her voice.

    Best wishes,

    Brewster

  • Please see the new Margaret Whiting recording I just added. Enjoy!

  • MW had one of the most melodic voices of her time, she was also the daughter of the legendary composer Richard A. Whiting who collaborated often with Johnny Mercer and the grate Gus Kahn.

  • "Zooscape" posted a pretty silly remark about this lovely cut. There is plenty of room in the world of music for two great artists like Whiting and pianist Bill Evans...you don't need to flash your "hip" credentials by trashing one to build up the other. BTW I've seen Whiting sing live and she has tremendous jazz feeling...a superb singer by any measure.

  • Margaret Whiting sings this song so beautifully. Thank you so much for posting this version.

    K.B.

  • I have never heard such a wonderful version I am absolutely hooked, her voice has so much clarity and is so easy to listen to..

  • Terrific! Thanks. KVS Class of '61

  • I just discovered this wonderful singer within the last 2 months. Someone said earlier in these comments that she is under-rated & I whole heartedly agree !!

Listening to her early recording of "Tree In The Meadow" & later "Freedom Train" (that she did with Johnny Mercer , Paul Weston & The Pied Pipers) written by Irving Berlin , I think she sounds MUCH better than some of her VERY famous contemporaries, such as Judy Garland.

I love your voice Margaret Whiting !!

  • Amazing how beautiful music makes your heart sing. Thanks for the post!

  • This is an absolutely wonderful version of this old classic. Thanks for the post

  • Margaret recorded some beautiful songs - some composed by her father - but in my humble opinion, this one is her finest.

Thank you for sharing this classic.

  • Gordon Jenkins Orch. had the #1 selling version of this song. But singer, Billy Ekstine had a big hit with this, as well.

    Margaret Whiting is so underrated!

  • She was a big selling vocalist for the Capitol label; esp. in the '40's. "A Wonderful Guy", "Moonlight in Vermont", "It Might As Well Be Spring", "A Tree in the Meadow" are some smash hits.

She recorded the 5th biggest seller of 1949, "Slipping Around" with country singer, Jimmy Wakely.

Besides her serious output, she duo'd again, this time with Frank DeVol, on a novelty hit, "I Said My Pajamas,(And put on my prayers)" the next year.

  • All the numbers you named from the 40s I enjoyed. But I most enjoyed her upbeat "You're An Old Smoothie," which I've not heard in a long time but would love to. Say, like Clooney, didn't Whiting have a sister who sounded like her?

  • Please see the post by bchfront, above.

Her sister was an actress, who was in mainly teenage roles.

  • Thank you muchly. Let me share a spiritual experience I had with Whiting. One

Saturday afternoon, I decided to catch 40 winks, after piddling around in my garden. During my slumber, I began to hear music so beautiful it brought me out of slumber. It was Whiting singing "Ballad of the Sad Young Men."

  • Great! Thanks for sharing!

  • One thing the vocalists had then and a lot of them do not have now, is the abiity to hold a note and sing note for note and not do the musical acrobats.

  • After listening to Margaret Whiting sing this song how could any buddy say any thing derogatory about her. The only conduct I am interested in, is Margaret's supreme majesty in handling one of the most beautiful song ever written. The movie is fabulous also!***** DAVE W.

  • Her choices even had TALENT. What does Margaret's husband have...uh-oh, let me guess...lol

  • Judy Garland married gays, but atleast they had a better reputation. See my point?

  • Oh god, I first saw this movie when I was 17, I've loved it ever sice. I'm so glad you posted the song, beautiful!

  • Finest rendition of My Foolish Heart ever and the sweetest song Margaret Whiting ever did.

  • I love this song and the movie is fantastic x

  • Absolutely BEAUTIFUL Keep up the Good work.

PS. Try to stop the impostors from submitting ridiculous renditions. David Weiler

  • Such a Lovely Singer

  • What a beautiful and pure voice :))

  • I think she had a beatiful voice too. But why did she sink to marrying a gay porn star?

  • What she does in her personal life is no one's concern. If she's happy then God Bless and leave them alone.

  • Ok. I'll leave her, her husbands, and all his boyfriends alone (lol). God Bless!

  • So what? Attraction between any two people is a lovely mystery. No third party can ever understand, and has no need to. Everyone has some great qualities if we just look into it. BTW: porn stars are a lot more respectable than those fools in Washington who started wars.

  • LOl! You have a point. I was just psychologically curious as to what the total attraction was between the two, and what makes is last. Can you blame me? When I think of 40s celebs, I don't imagine then marrying porn stars, especially those that are gay...

  • How very true.

  • I have tears in my eyes, thank you for sharing this beautiful song and arrangement. I am going to rent the movie and have a really good cry

  • Take this song, add one roaring fireplace, a bottle of wine and someone you love and the rest is academic. A beautiful song sung by a wonderful lady. Thank you for posting it. It is greatly appreciated by the both of us. Peace.

  • Absolutely the most beautiful rendition of My Foolish Heart. Clear, steady, deep, romantic. Makes me miss someone.

  • I want this movie in dvd format! It'd be great if somebody put it here on YT.

    Mary-

  • Her father Richard, and my grandfather, M.K. were both working somgwriters at Warners during the same-time. I never had the pleasure of meeting her, or her late sister Barbara, but because of her close-association with some of the best tune-smiths that ever-breathed, Margaret Whiting knows, better than anyone, how to treat a lyric with respect. I am so pleased I ran-across this: it envelopes a whole-era of music (which was then closing) with tendress, warmth and affection. R.J.

  • A wonderful rendition of this classic Golden Oldie. I have never heard this singer before. Many thanks for posting.

  • Your guess is as good as mine, tootall. The song eluded me for years, after hearing it on a local AM radio station. I finally tracked it down. It is, in my opinion, one of the best interpretations of ANY of the tin pan alley songs of the era.

  • Same with me - after hearing it once on AM years ago, I could find it nowhere. Thank you so much for bringing it to us. It is simply lovely.

  • I'd hardly heard of Ms. Whiting; I stubbled onto this beautiful recording. Absolutely stunning; why was it not released and why is it not known to the general public? This chick could sing. I've listened to some of her other "big" hits and they suck compared to this. It's her voice and the arrangement; only hope some upcoming movie uses this as background and thereby introduces it to a new generation.

  • what a great singer!

  • Im related to her! yay for me lol

  • simply Too Marvelous For Words!

  • My mothers favorite artist, Margaret Whiting! Such a wonderful singer. I wish we could hear her sing with Michael Buble'....I wish

  • I've re-discovered Margaret Whiting! Her voice was rich, sultry and warm. Thank God for recordings and YouTube technology which enables us to revisit such wonderful talent. Lou B.

  • Terrific! Glorious singing. The song also

done beautifully by Joni James on an album

    years ago.

  • Lovely

  • Another beautiful voice from an era when music WAS music!
