  • if you want the truth...don't watch movies...

  • shea neary is one ugly motherfucker....

  • great fight.

  • great heart shown by ward in round 3! And got his head together quickly, got the guard back up, made neary miss with some wild swings trying to finish him. They always say missed punches tire you out the most. And that tiredness in neary is what helped ward win the fight!

  • REAL fight much closer than movie represented.

  • Comment removed

  • in the fighter, the Shea Neary character had an American accent in the press conference.

  • @InnocenceExperience its an American film, they would never understand a real scouse accent would they!

  • @dan32113 born in liverpool but im sure he lived in ireland, as he did have the accent :p

  • @ThatBigRugbyKid Neary spoke with a scouse accent mate, he had Irish background, but thousands & thousands of scousers do, with the closeness of Liverpool & Dublin. Born & bred in the Pool, as far as i know!

  • @ThatBigRugbyKid nah mate he didnt live in ireland he lived in liverpool throughout his proffesional carrer

  • damn it a minute into the fight! which one is micky???? looking for a good looking guy like mark in the movie the fighter. damn movie lied to me.

  • they even got the same gloves from the movie

  • micky ward is a legend fareal

  • 2:24 "bash his fucking head in"

  • The movie made it seem Micky was getting his ass kicked all over the place in the 1st round. wow!..what bullshit that was LOL

  • @DICACIO1 It's just trying to make it more dramatic by exagerrating Micky's fighting style.

  • @DICACIO1 I guess you think Hollywood is usually being honest.

  • the fight isnt exactly like the movie

  • @GetzuCero Or the movie isn't exactly like the fight.

  • no one has more heart or can take a beating better than irish fighters, i should know i am one! lol

  • irish vs irish are the best fights

  • Thumbs up,if you knew about Mickey Ward before the movie "The Fighter"

  • @skeptical777 Aren't you fucking special

  • 2 things are fun:

1.- I did watch this AFTER watching ''The fighter''

2.- ''Real fans'' of Micky get angry 'cuz we like him.. AFTER watching the movie, insted being happy 'cuz he gained MORE fans (Even if we are ''fake'' fans)

    HAHA..

  • I'd like to see these go at it after drinking Guinness, lot's of it,

  • just saw the movie,2 bad you don't see the "no shaking hands" before the fight xD

  • The canvas in this fight looks exactly like the canvas in the damn movie. Neary looks like he was in the movie...

  • This fight isnt nearly as one sided as the movie showed it.

  • @thecrosby627 that's true. ward's much tougher in real life,

  • sad to see how many more people now know who micky is from the movie, not realizing how great of a fighter he was

  • @itsmyisliand You should be glad that the movie is turning more people on to this great fighter.

  • @itsmyisliand

How is it a bad thing that people now know who he is if he's a great fighter? Kinda contradictory wouldn't you say?

  • @itsmyisliand i knew from playing fight night round 3 lol

  • 3 people didn't see the fighter

  • Can remember seeing this fight, one of the I've seen. Haven't seen the film yet though.

  • the fighter brings me in to this fight

  • im surprised hbo was commentating for a wbu title fight....thought the movie " th fighter" was bullshitting

  • @fuckoff187 HBO were commentating because this was chief support to Prince Naz vs Bungyu.

  • inside fight..... steve collins was the best at this type of scrap

  • some of the commentary sounds the same!

  • thumbs up if you new the legend of ward before the fighter just because youre a real boxing fan - Before they make a movie about ray boom boom mancini go check him out - the man killed a boxer in the ring

  • @Chitownrunthis of course, because I'm a huge Gatti fan. Every Gatti fan obviously knows Ward. I found out about "The Fighter" in the comment box of a Gatti vs Ward highlight reel. They never showed it in my country.

  • "Smash his f**king head!" Classic Jeers

  • Funny how many people who came to watch this after the movie about Ward came out. I watched this when this had about 200 Views.

  • ward's first rounds here are not as bad as the movie has shown...

  • same here just watched the movie , time watch real thing

  • wow the commentary was used in the movie

  • "The Fighter". Great movie! Mark Walhberg playing Micky Ward. Now, I hope Wahlberg decides to do a movie about Arturo Gatti's life and boxing career. He looks more like Arturo anyways! That would make for another great boxing movie!

  • in the movie they should have choreographed the whole fight authentically.

  • thumbs up if you're a REAL Micky Ward fan and knew who he was before the fighter

  • @oasis4ever92

I watched Micky Ward years ago, in the 90's. When I saw the movie I was surprised it was about him.

  • @oasis4ever92, What does it matter to you? Don't you appreciate the movie doing him justice and bringing him new fans and attention?

  • @elevat0r123 come on man...the people who made the movie (not micky) dont care if he has new fans. its all about money to them. Im a huge micky ward fan and didnt need a movie to tell me that. I like the film, probably the best boxing film ive ever seen. i was simply stating that i was a massive fan before the film

  • @oasis4ever92, You didn't say you were simply a fan before the movie, you were trying to put down people who learned who he was by watching the Fighter. Whether or not the movie did it to get money and publicity, it brought attention to Micky, which I appreciate, anybody who shares my admiration of his career (whether or not they found him through the movie) is fine by me.

  • @oasis4ever92 i trained at his gym and i know dicky and him

  • @BoxingKid10 well then you sir are more worthy of life than i am. What's the gym like? they decent trainers? they seem to know about the sport and i imagine push you well

  • @oasis4ever92 yea the gyms really good.... i had a trainer there and whenever i was just there dicky worked with me and he also trained other people there.

  • @oasis4ever92 yea the gyms really good.... i had a trainer there and whenever i was just there dicky worked with me and he also trained other people there. I also fought out of that gym but now im at a new one

  • nothin better than watchin 2 irish guys blatter each other .. ok both not born in ireland but thats where their fighting spirit and guts comes from is Ireland

  • @MrIrishrover2011 Listen i was born in liverpool like neary and have irish blood, i am also a boxer and let me tell you that my spirit and my gut's come from the place i was born and raised and my family. idiot

  • @GSheppo92 fair enuff

  • I know the fighter is only based on the true story but that's just an excuse because they couldn't be bothered to right a decent story. The only reason I thought that movie was any good because I thought "Wow, this guy got screwed over and faced someone 23 pounds heavier than him. Wow, this guy is getting battered for 7 rounds and comes back" but that was all bullshit. I hate the best parts of the movie based on a real person are invented. Only reason it's not about a fictional boxer is to sell.

  • @alsoknownasallenkeys he was losing the Sanchez fight badly, that is real. I watched Ward in the 90"s but then again i follow the sport! The reason this film is about Micky Ward is because its Mark Walhbergs film, he"s from the Boston area. You know nothing about Ward i can tell that...

  • @dan32113 he was losing until he hit him with the left hook. sanchez was crying. I'ce never seen a fighter in such physical pain.

  • thumbs up if the movie "the fighter" brought you here

  • @TheComedyKitchen stop saying that. everyone says it.

  • @TheComedyKitchen hahah yea it did make me search this fight

  • @TheComedyKitchen you know it

  • @TheComedyKitchen this comment is such a buzzkill, pls remove it

  • @TheComedyKitchen hahaha, it's true...it's true

  • @TheComedyKitchen Actually where he trains is about 20 minutes from my work.

  • The movie was bullshit. Ward was a much better fighter than the movie depicted. And Mike Mungin didn't weigh 165, he was 145 for their fight. The family stuff may have been authentic but I've followed Mickey's career and he was no bum, the way the movie implied.

  • @bitterclinger100 well the movie is "based" on a true story. Not a documentary.

  • @ibanezgr Good point, my wife told me that too.lol I'm just such a big Mickey Ward fan I didn't like seeing him portrayed as a tomato can. Go to boxrec.com and check his record. Even fights he lost were close. He was a solid contender all the way through his career, not another "Rocky Balboa". Thanks for getting back to me.

  • @bitterclinger100 Well Micky Ward is awesome! This movie was more about the stuff around the boxing with his family and all rather than the boxing. Though the boxing was still the theme that kept the story together. I think this movie made Micky Ward even more famous than he was before. Considering I had never heard about him even I listened to a song about him constantly before the movie came out. The movie probably did more good than bad.

  • had to see the real thing after seeing The Fighter

  • the fighter

  • it is amazing how much the movie is exactly like the the real guy

  • "The Fighter"

  • Neary was played by a guy from Boston. They could have at least got a scouser to play neary. Great film though. Don't care what people say about it. Best boxing film in years.

  • @colmheneghan I completely agree with you man

    great movie !!

  • @colmheneghan I know mate, that nearly ruined the hole film for me, i used to go to neary's gym. He's a scouser and they got a scottish fella, well he sound like he was scottish. Idiot yanks mate have no idea.

  • great fight by two warriors, actually being shown on Sky Anytime untill 27th Feb

  • two of my favourite fighters, both hard as nails. can't believe they cast an american with a dodgy irish/scottish accent. shea neary is a scouser!!!

  • @shogunstomp Irish

  • I really wanted to see if he refused to hit gloves with Ward at the start of the fight or if they just put that in the movie. Can someone confirm this for me?

  • @KILLZONER20 As I remember it, Ward was the one who refused to touch gloves and acted a bit of a bell-end all night and not the other way round

  • Neary is supposably from Liverpool, in the film his accent was a lil dodgy.

  • In the movie, Neary had scottish accent (Glasgow i think) but hes from liverpool

  • i don't know if it's just me but did anyone else think in the movie that they made micky seem that he wasn't as tough or aggressive as he actually was in the ring?

  • i've just seen the movie about wards, about this fight; it ain't bad.

  • Anyone know if the movie was correct and Shea refused to shake hands before the fight?

  • @jamesstafforduk yeah it's correct but the film showed less of the square-up and made out ward was taking a major beating every round when he was giving as good as he got but thats movies for you, i enjoyed the movie and thought bale was awesome but it had something missing i felt

  • @jamesstafforduk Ward refused as I remember

  • in the movie they had roy jone jr commentating as well, can't be bothered to watch the whole fight (just watched the film) but is RJ there commentating. I thought it was weird they usually only have three commentators not 4

  • I haven't since Christian Bale's performance in The Fighter, but based on appearance he was a poor choice to play Dick Eckland. Too young, too tall, too handsome, too much hair!

  • @garethac81 just saw it and he's not handsome in this film or does he have hair! amazing performance, really.

  • @garethac81

You HAVE to see the movie. Great performance...

  • @garethac81

bales performance in thr fighter was brilliant, i can see him getting the best supporting actor oscar

  • served in the army with shea 1st king's regt in the late 80's he was the hardest man i ever saw, he once charged into 200 scots in the naafi on his own mad man !!!, he was also a great boxer then and would knock all out in the 1st round, all round hard man..

  • crack addict!!!

  • foreman is a fucking awful commentator!lol

  • exactly like the movie

  • Great movie

  • great film , commentary same and all, class

  • Pure chipper talk from some losers commenting on this. They need to grow the fuck up, move out of their parents house and spend some time in the real world. To the genuine people I thought it was a good movie and a great fight.

  • man did micky have a powerful left hook

  • is it me or does the guy playing Neary in the film sound Scottish??

  • @donkey2883 Just you

  • @donkey2883 Actually I turned to my friend and said, "Fucking scottish bastard." Cause that's what he sounded like.

  • the commentators in the movie and in this actual fight are very accurate, same exact comments.

  • @10xrockiztah I think that they might have used the commentators' actual sound bytes in the movie

  • Mark Wahlberg couldn't dye his hair for this role?

  • the drama

  • ward had one thing neary never had, experinence, and he had it in spades

  • best movie since Casino.

  • I highly recommend that you see the movie "Fighter." It's a great story.

  • @DONGOE Just saw it great movie that's why im looking at all these highlights and matches haha

  • I'm surprised they didn't show 1 Gatti fight in the movie, but the fighter was so epic and captivating. if you're from Lowell you will especially appreciate it. I also enjoyed the inside view of "High on Crack Street" I didn't know how devastating that documentary was on the Eklund/Ward family.

  • @devipus

    i did

  • @devipus Yea I just saw the movie and thought that too. Maybe the Death of Gatti was too heavy for them to put that in.

  • @devipus you could make a whole movie on the 1st gatti ward fight alone

  • Just got out from watching The Fighter and had to see this fight for real again. Go see the movie. It was funny, sad, epic, and filmed in my hometown. So of course I loved it. Ward is a warrior. Neary took this fight way to lightly.

  • @blkplaguelmc If this movie was filmed in your hometown then you're a white trash

  • @kainmaro2010 LOL, good one. I can see by your grammar that you're obviously very rich and well educated. Good Ole Youtube, the wasteland of comments.

  • @blkplaguelmc

white trash, i'm very rich and powerful. I'm a member of the royal moroccan family.

  • @kainmaro2010 Yea sure. You're a fuckin loser who goes around making negative comments on youtube videos. I'm sure you're so rich and powerful. Maybe you think you are when you stroke your internet ego.

  • @kainmaro2010 Aren't the Moroccans from Fraggle Rock?

  • @baseballguy2186 Morrocans are from your sister's pussy cunt

  • @kainmaro2010 Haha! My sister's dead, and I saw you and some blonde haired guy making out at a Sonic yesterday. Funny, I didn't think you could order dick at the drive-thru =)

  • @kainmaro2010

What is your name, if you are a member of the royal Moroccan family? Do you live in Morocco? The real question: are you a 21 year old college dropout who lives in his basement and pretends to be so high and mighty? Only the insecure make comments like yours. Its people like you who go and make international incidents. Before you call me white trash, check out my grammar. You'll find that it's impeccable. But I don't belong to a royal family. Just a small suburban one.

  • @elfey2 "It's" as in "It is people like you..." Not impeccable. Just sayin'.

  • @kainmaro2010 fuck u fagot

  • "The Fighter" uses this fight as its climax. It's a great movie but it's too bad it doesn't include the Gatti fights.

  • @Shirashama Damn, that's sort of a shame, I figured it would climax with the first gatti - ward fight. Still gonna see it though!

  • @Shirashama maybe out of respect for gatti since he was killed

  • well done for putting this fight on - been waiting years to watch it!

  • holy shit they look the same and fight the same exact way , sux how neary pretty much quit after this fight he fought 1 more time then retired

  • @poopmcscoopface - I noticed the same micky's fighting a clone of himself ..../LOL

  • I remember watching this fight and hearing the commentator say "the could have fought this in a phone box" fucking amazing tear up.

  • WOW! What a Rumble!!!

  • I remember watching this fight live on ITV. It was the first time I'd seen Mickey Ward and was blown away with his exciting style and how gracious he was after the fight. Two boxing hardmen in a real war!!

  • Two great Irish-England, Irish-American fighters.

  • @kez1979 irish england? its an irishman against an american. why americans hang onto long lost heritage is beyond me

  • @dazzzdelux If you want that way then he is English (a scouser) but you have obviously never been an immigrant.

  • @kez1979 immigrant or not it makes no differance after a couple of generations . if a so called irish-american or italian-american went back to the country of origin after a few generations they would be considered foreign . they adopt american culture.

  • @dazzzdelux Thats not true for all people. Plenty of individuals retain their culture in new countries as do their children and so on...

  • @cannonballkid but i bet you dont know many "italian americans" who love football ( soccer ) or any "irish americans" for that matter. also you tend to find "italian american " food is different to actual authentic italian food.

  • @dazzzdelux Actually I do. I know many people that actually supported said nation in the WC as opposed to the US and follow the foreign teams instead of the domestic ones. Never deal in absolutes. Plenty of people throughout the world retain their values in new places some forget others dont.

  • @dazzzdelux He is from Liverpool mate, he's not irish. I have irish decent like alot of people from liverpool and i would never call myself irish. You need to stop holding on to long lost heritage

  • @GSheppo92 what, like matthew macklin? should he too?

  • Comment removed

  • @kez1979 hell ya

  • Thanks for posting this video brother. Anybody got the Micky Ward-Antonio Diaz fight?

  • Two tough Lads from different parts of the world, great fight, SHEA NEARY A GREAT EXAMPLE FOR THE CITY OF LIVERPOOL!!! ONE OF THE GREATS, tough, gutsy and could box too!!!!!!

  • Question 1 - Why is Marky Mark making a movie about Ward v. Neary?

Question 2 - Why is the casting company looking for "ethnic" actors to pose as spectators? (I see mostly white folks in this audience)?

Just askin'. Ain't judgin'. Judgin' is for wise Latinas.

  • @Cathoryn cuz yanks r ignorant

  • @Messi33a You mother is a whore you stuffy limey cunt.

  • @Cathoryn wahlberg or marky mark as you say is a fan of micky ward, coming from the same area Boston. the crowd are mostly white because this fight took place in London, england! do some reasearch, please.

  • av u got any more shea neary fights??

  • thanks for the post

  • now you know why frank warren let hatton fight vince phillips, ben tackie etc & not micky ward to fucking dangerous. hatton loved body shots but hated taken them, ward would of given ricky hell! bad luck to shea, but even gatti couldn"t go toe 2 toe with ward, which is why he boxed him in 2nd & 3rd fights!

  • thanks for posting this mate

  • two exceptionally hard men

  • Comment removed

  • Neary was a good fighter...but Ward was a exceptionally hard man who,s style would ruin fighters.
