You should all know that knowing how to use a CLI makes using *nix a better experience and is fairly straightforward. IRC, google, and man are all you really need.
After a little learning curve it becomes pretty natural. You just need to be curious.

About Mac vs PC, in sense of machine, i prefer to build my own PC with my own high-quality parts
but i have to say, it's easier to obtain quality with a Mac computer than with a PC computer... most stores sell crappy PCs and plenty of them sell low quality parts for your custom builds.
so there you have it, my two cents... GNU/Linux OS in a custom PC machine.

There are some commercial AAA games for linux, but majority OEM hardware manufacturers on x86 are bribed by microsoft, almost every one PC seller is required to sell microsoft-only preinstalled or he will have to pay full price for SB version - and developers - are fed with microsoft-only directx.

the truth is Linux has a long way to run before replacing Mac and Windows, specially because of the "play and plug" issues with webcams and other hardware, and all the work you have to do to just install a simple programm through Terminal

then i guess i am unluky, since my Maxell webcam and Canon printer don't work at all with Linux Ubuntu 9.04 (the one i have installed on my Toshiba laptop), dont get me wrong, Linux is a great OS, in fact, i use Linux most of the time and i use windows once in a blue moon, but there are several things Linux can't do for me (webcam, printer) so i have to choice besides turning to windows

I can say that I picked up all sorts of crabs when I was using Vista, but I haven't run into anything with Ubuntu. My computer also runs much faster, is easier to multitask on, and is free of all the ridiculous red tape present in Windows.
@childofvincent MacOSX is BSD based. It means - it basically behaves as Linux. But they closed a LOT of layers on top of it, and once you get that viruses start to spread. So MacOSX is vulnerable to viruses, not as much as windows, but by far not as secure as linux or bsd.
Some of the arguments Mac said against Windows are totally retarded. They're not more affordable and they don't have superior processing power cos you can just chose the processor for a PC.

I use debian on my servers and windows for my workstations. I like being able to natively and easily run my workstation apps (yes I know about WINE), as well as run server apps with mission critical stability on my servers. Sure, Mac can do a lot of hardcore programming stuff as well, but why pay more for the same stupid x86 chip that you can get for cheaper in a Winbox or OEM PC anyway? Fuck mac.
I don't understand these types of commercials...they advertise OS, yet they use generic terms like "Mac" and "PC", implying the hardware in them is their own, but it's not.

I started using OpenSUSE for almost a month and I'm loving it!!!!! I mean I've used Windows and Mac and they're both good, but I love Linux! I think the increase in Linux users is gaining momentum these days. Once 10% of OS market is controlled by Linux, Windows would be in great trouble, because people would know that there's always a free alternative. I mean there will always be people who would prefer to pay for an OS, but there are so much more of those who can't afford to buy one.

P.S. Right now i have a problem on my works laptop witch has Win7 64bit and wireless card(Ralink) disconnects all the time for no reason. I tried it with Ubu no problem at all ...(Just a notice :P) The biggest problem is that i can trash them cause my boss is too CLOSE MINDED.
@RAZcracK haha yeah i like and have used ubuntu quite a bit... compatibility with hardware is great(ie i had ubuntu 86x installed on my p4, and then i moved it to a core i7 and it still worked flawlessly, cant do that with windows) the reason my family hated ubuntu was because theyre not really good with computers, i just think that if ubuntu wannts to become more mainstream they have to become easier to use and more compatible software(yes, even more)

There is a very good advantage to running Linux in a dual boot situation and it is, ... If you only use your windows for games, your windows install will stay stable for a lot longer. you wont have to format every year because of the inevitable slow down that comes with using windows every day. use Linux for everything but games :)

@BradleyKust Old comment, but valid. People love that Win does everything when it's fully upgraded. It reduces personal effort to customize and maintain, but Linux users call this "Software Bloat." They are just different in that way. One reason, however, that Win works when others don't is because those games need to use Win code to run on Win, and the code is meant to fail on everything else by design for the sake of control. It's like trying to publish a book written in a patented language.

I use debian on my servers and windows for my workstations. I like being able to natively and easily run my workstation apps (yes I know about WINE), as well as run server apps with mission critical stability on my servers. Sure, Mac can do a lot of hardcore programming stuff as well, but why pay more for the same stupid x86 chip that you can get for cheaper in a Winbox or OEM PC anyway? Fuck mac.

I started using OpenSUSE for almost a month and I'm loving it!!!!! I mean I've used Windows and Mac and they're both good, but I love Linux! I think the increase in Linux users is gaining momentum these days. Once 10% of OS market is controlled by Linux, Windows would be in great trouble, because people would know that there's always a free alternative. I mean there will always be people who would prefer to pay for an OS, but there are so much more of those who can't afford to buy one.

And whats with the 'mac stole this and mac stole that from linux' comments?... they are both unix based Os'es and both crap all over winblows. I personally run osx on my mac, ubuntu on my unix netbook and fedora on my partners lappie. WINE does the trick for any .exe's i need to load. :)

PC's don't blue screen so often.I only got like 10 viruses since i bought my first PC (At 4 years).Gaming on Mac sux,you don't have right click,and many other things.Macs have few viruses cuz they aren't popular.You don't have to buy the best antivirus.I used Panda for some time,and it worked fine.Windows Defender saved me from many bad things.PC will be fun,creative and popular.Mac won't.

Linux today has the best drivers support ... I installed Ubuntu on 3 really old desktop pc's i own + 2 new laptops and everything was working since the first boot ...
As for applications and games just use wine and you can run almost every windows app and games under Linux damn FASTER than windows...
Just give Linux a GO and i ensure that you will be impressed ...

@RAZcracK first of all ubuntu isnt linux... 2nd the point of this commercial is to make linux more mainstream, and nobody should have to load their games and programs with wine, it shouldnt have to come to that, half of the computer users dont even know how to install...3rd i wrote this before 10.04 was totally out, and ubuntu didnt support trim(for ssd's), and I dont even know if it support that still... i had ubuntu installed on a p4 and my family hated it...

P.S. Right now i have a problem on my works laptop witch has Win7 64bit and wireless card(Ralink) disconnects all the time for no reason. I tried it with Ubu no problem at all ...(Just a notice :P) The biggest problem is that i can trash them cause my boss is too CLOSE MINDED.

@RAZcracK haha yeah i like and have used ubuntu quite a bit... compatibility with hardware is great(ie i had ubuntu 86x installed on my p4, and then i moved it to a core i7 and it still worked flawlessly, cant do that with windows) the reason my family hated ubuntu was because theyre not really good with computers, i just think that if ubuntu wannts to become more mainstream they have to become easier to use and more compatible software(yes, even more)

@BradleyKust As a gamer myself, i know what you mean, Linux is not for gaming. But i do dual boot Kubuntu 10.10 and Win 7. There is a very good advantage to running Linux in a dual boot situation and it is, ... If you only use your windows for games, your windows install will stay stable for a lot longer. you wont have to format every year because of the inevitable slow down that comes with using windows every day. use Linux for everything but games :)

I just tried and i emphasize "tried" to install Project blackout in wine last night hoping it would work, but again, it wouldnt install the anticheat software, so the game installed but it wouldnt launch. I will not toss the idea that Linux isnt a gaming OS out until i can install the games i want ON it.

@BradleyKust Old comment, but valid. People love that Win does everything when it's fully upgraded. It reduces personal effort to customize and maintain, but Linux users call this "Software Bloat." They are just different in that way. One reason, however, that Win works when others don't is because those games need to use Win code to run on Win, and the code is meant to fail on everything else by design for the sake of control. It's like trying to publish a book written in a patented language.

My family comes down and uses it from time to time, and some times my friends for video games. I know for fact that they cannot use linux, and they will hate it... But i agree that it is dumb how no one designs video games for linux... but you can't blame them, i mean all that 1/2

Sure if you know a thing or two about computers you will be able to use Ubuntu easily, but overall Windows and Mac beats Ubuntu for user friendliness.
