Nowadays you will notice Engelbert's voice has maintained itself better than Tom's.Could this be down to singing properly and not tearing up your throat?
Just Sit back and enjoy the outstanding performances, Elvis Tom and Englebert it's all good. three totally different singers, what more could you ask for.
Engelbert is not Tom Jones. Tom Jones has a powerful voice. You can see it in this video. Now Engle bert has a smoother voice. A power voice but Tom Jones has a more high geared race type voice. Jones just takes s song over chews it up and spits it out... That's a fact!!!
Elvis, Engelbert, and TJ all have some great performances and some not so great performances. I think it depends on the stage, recording, mixing etc. Its hard to say who is the best. I think each one can sing certain songs better than the others- depends on the song. When he doesn't get too wild with his dancing, I think TJ has the best stage show. He just seems more relaxed and like he's enjoying more than Elvis did. Overall I think Elvis is the best. TJ was great with "Witch Queen".
Love both of them - Enge more gentle, classy, gentlemanly; really good at it; TJ more raw, out there, obviously totally all sex - and really good at it!!
tj pushed his music physically.engelbert didnt have to....sex appeal there just standing still with the God-given voice from heaven....thank God he stuck with ballads.
enge, who in the world picked out that shirt , yukky wear tight fitting things , u have as good a build as tom j , but u wore that old shirt l, love u or wouldnt care what u wore phyllis m
u know what , when he is working with another entertainer , his full talent comes out , he is very nice to compliment the other one but his beauty shines almost as bright as his beautiful smile, enge is still the best phyllis m
How was his voice when you saw him?We saw two perfect shows here in California. Just hope he can make make the shows hes got on his agenda for the rest of the year. It would be hard for a 20 year old.
voice was great except towards the end he got a little raspy and skipped, totally amazing, and my way.but i think he had a little cold.he took a sip of vino and seemed better but the opening got all messed up the dvd about his 40 years stopped midway and he had to walk onto a dead stage so he was pissed then he had a lot of mike feedback but he is still number 1.hes been a friend of mine 4 years.
Isn't he the nicest most caring man you want to meet?I've known him since 82 and cherish our friendship.Sorry there was problems at your show. Just hope he makes all the shows hes scheduled for the rest of the year.Take Care
Wow, that's good news! I wish I were you - I mean I wish I could see Engelbert live sometime! Two months ago, on the New Year's Eve, Tom Jones gave a concert in Bucharest-Romania and I managed to see him. He was great and I would very much like to see & hear Engelbert too. I grew up with them. He and Tom are among the most beloved English-language singers around here, especially among people over 40, who still know what quality music is about.
Great vid. Minor correction. This was in 1973. That is when TJ recorded Witch Queen. He was tied up on his own TV show from '69-'71 and never had sideburns like that until after his show ended.
rare clip !!, specially With Queen Of New Orleans !; unfortunately with small mistakes, and maybe some different orchestra sound then sound from the album Close UP
You are right! I remember a few years ago "Shutgun Tom" a radio disc jockey said after a good song "from the days the singers sand and the bands played". Engelbert and Tom really posses quality and it still shows today. Thanks for posting it minminbird!!
Tom really dances, I cannot say the same about Engelbert, but he doesn't need to dance. I guess that if Engelbert just stood there in one spot and sang, he would be perfect still. I love his beautiful voice.
HI. I just saw two shows here, maybe you did too. They were both perfect. Engelbert is just the nicest most talented caring man I've ever met. He deserves more acknowledgement than he gets. Sure hope he gets knighted soon. I think he deservres it more than Tom, and he was knighted many years ago. At least Engelbert received his Doctorate Degree. Best singer ever.
I have wondered that myself, but I have a theory: the reason Engelbert has not been knighted is because he does not pay taxes to England anymore since he has been a tax exile since a lot of years now. So probably the people that have been knighted is because they have paid for it in a huge way -lots of taxes!
If that knightlyhood was really awarded fairly he would have goten it before the majority that have received such an "honor".
You can be right. I've never gotten into his personal financial life.Last time I checked he was getting votes. Not sure how many he needs. If we US fans could vote he would of been knighted years ago. Agree?
Agree! Well, I knew about his taxes, you know about the voting stuff. Hopefully he will get a landslide of votes from all of us who can differentiate between quality and wannabes.
Fantastic

Around the world I’ve searched for you,
I traveled on when hope was gone to keep a rendezvous.
I knew somewhere, sometime, somehow,
you’d look at me and I would see the smile you’re smiling now.
It might have been in County Down,
or in New York, in Gay Paree, or even London Town.
No more will I go all around the world,
for I have found my world in you.

back when great singers had humility class and put aside their competing egos to have respect for each other without shutting the door on each other.
too many of today's generation singers have too much a-hole ego's to allow any other great singers to be on their show singing with them.

ELVIS' aloha from Hawaii(the first satelite

for ELVIS,FRANK and DEAN!

Just Sit back and enjoy the outstanding performances, Elvis Tom and Englebert it's all good. three totally different singers, what more could you ask for.
webzone5 4 years ago 3
Engelbert is not Tom Jones. Tom Jones has a powerful voice. You can see it in this video. Now Engle bert has a smoother voice. A power voice but Tom Jones has a more high geared race type voice. Jones just takes s song over chews it up and spits it out... That's a fact!!!
vonratibor 4 years ago 2
Even today, there is no singer capable of
"blowing Engelbert away." And don't even
think about when this video was made. The
man was, is, and always will be amazing!

nice outfit!!! I think i say that in an episode of Star Trek one time!!!

Love both of them - Enge more gentle, classy, gentlemanly; really good at it; TJ more raw, out there, obviously totally all sex - and really good at it!!

engenut07 4 years ago 3
I agree that no entertainer can touch him.
His style and his voice is just unmatched!
bustup99 4 years ago 2
How was his voice when you saw him?We saw two perfect shows here in California. Just hope he can make make the shows hes got on his agenda for the rest of the year. It would be hard for a 20 year old.
humpy68 4 years ago
voice was great except towards the end he got a little raspy and skipped, totally amazing, and my way.but i think he had a little cold.he took a sip of vino and seemed better but the opening got all messed up the dvd about his 40 years stopped midway and he had to walk onto a dead stage so he was pissed then he had a lot of mike feedback but he is still number 1.hes been a friend of mine 4 years.
engenut07 4 years ago
Isn't he the nicest most caring man you want to meet?I've known him since 82 and cherish our friendship.Sorry there was problems at your show. Just hope he makes all the shows hes scheduled for the rest of the year.Take Care

engenut07,
Wow, that's good news!
AugustaRomania 4 years ago
great clip of engelbert, not sure about tom though. Is Tom doing comedy here? Engelbert is effortless class. Tom tries too hard and it doesn't work.
eddie8134 4 years ago
Comedy?? right...
Well he has much more charisma than enge got, sex appeal and voice aswell + moves...
Thats why younger audiance/singers and old/singers respects him...
The King was fan too and frank sinatra said "We have number one singer in the world here tonight, Tom Jones stand up and take a bow"
You know Tom Jones is The Voice
Tsirjones 4 years ago
Couldnt agree with you more! How can one compare Engelbert with Tom Jones of all singers ???? Engelbert is INCOMPARABLE !
august1302 4 years ago 4
Great vid. Minor correction. This was in 1973. That is when TJ recorded Witch Queen. He was tied up on his own TV show from '69-'71 and never had sideburns like that until after his show ended.

actually 1972 the song came from the album close up from 1972

You are right! I remember a few years ago "Shutgun Tom" a radio disc jockey said after a good song "from the days the singers sand and the bands played". Engelbert and Tom really posses quality and it still shows today. Thanks for posting it minminbird!!
beltor333 4 years ago
Quite a video! Toms one leg dancing was funny.
humpy68 4 years ago
Tom really dances, I cannot say the same about Engelbert, but he doesn't need to dance. I guess that if Engelbert just stood there in one spot and sang, he would be perfect still. I love his beautiful voice.
beltor333 4 years ago
Best singer ever.
humpy68 4 years ago
I have wondered that myself, but I have a theory: the reason Engelbert has not been knighted is because he does not pay taxes to England anymore since he has been a tax exile since a lot of years now. So probably the people that have been knighted is because they have paid for it in a huge way -lots of taxes!
If that knightlyhood was really awarded fairly he would have goten it before the majority that have received such an "honor".
Love you!
beltor333 4 years ago
You can be right. I've never gotten into his personal financial life.Last time I checked he was getting votes. Not sure how many he needs. If we US fans could vote he would of been knighted years ago. Agree?
humpy68 4 years ago
Agree! Well, I knew about his taxes, you know about the voting stuff. Hopefully he will get a landslide of votes from all of us who can differentiate between quality and wannabes.
Kisses
