You're not trying hard enough, I own an R reg 1.8l naturally aspirated Ford Escort van, and I've managed to get it 105mph on the speedo, just over 100mph gps verified
85mph is about right for the 1.8. It doesnt help that you appear to have a full tank of fuel on though which slows it down a tad. Although my occaisional trips over 80 have used soo much diesel perhaps its a good idea.

if u want a nippy van...get the 1.8tdi and get it chipped...they can do in excess of 130MPH!!!

yea i had an NA diesel van w reg - 90mph top end downhill then the cambelt snapped lol
