Genesis was my Fav if you as me out of the ShadowRun got me into the PnP version, XBox is crappy FPS, and SNes was ... eh Punky. this one is ALOT closer to the acoule PnP Version then the Snes ever was and all the Snes fans who claim theres is better then this and yell/argue about it just dont get it.
it funny the only reason i dont play these old games is, technical problems & the lack of voice overs, i have poor eye sight so reading reemes of text for long periods is hard.
Awesome GAME. Brings back memories. AND NO, THE GENESIS version is WAY better. I'm working on a Shadowrun Like game that runs on the UE3 engine, the game is called B.T.L.:.Better Than Life -- and it will emulate many of the great Genesis Shadowrun and table top RPG elements.
@grove12345 From what my understand is, graphically the SNES was far superior. The Genesis one though had more features such as actually going on runs, upgrading Shadow Runners and a better Matrix representation. I havn't really played the Genesis one myself, but hopefully it's longer too. The SNES is dreadfully short.
Ha...I love them both... but overall I liked the SNES one more too...just...freakin' awesome... Alot of people do prefer the Genesis one though...I get it it though I mean...the Matrix is certainly more interesting...but I just really loved the Art and Music of the SNES version....just had an awesome vibe...
@xWickedXRabbitx Think when it comes to this game people prefer the version they played originally. I've seen reviewers go both ways too, so they both are great, different games. I prefer the SNES one too but that's the one I had. While not as long as it could be, it's definitely of the best rpgs on the system and that's saying something. With the exceptions of Castlevania & Metroid, no SNES game used the soundtrack as effectively as an extension of the game itself. An all-around work of art...
i like the genesis version better, the snes version was more of a maniac mansion/final fantasy cross-bread rather than a video game version of a pen and paper rpg
Watching you play is more fun than actually playing. Isn't it supposed to be the other way around, though? Growing up, I always hated watching other people play games.
I don't get the "this version is better" junk people be tossin' 'bout. Unless you've played both fully to completion, how would you really know which is superior?
Besides, seeing the full spectrum is a superior way to experience Shadowrun. Unless you want to be like
AMFFMG XBAWKS THREE-FIDDY BEETZ GAYSTATION THREE LOL
Same thing, just with software instead of hardware. Meh.
@poopdownurthroat The Xbox 360 one is an alternate universe, but as far as I know this, the SNES version, and the tabletop pnp are all the same universe.
I have this game on my genesis. But my genesis has a defective power connection on the back of the system. I either have to get it repaired or do it myself. But if I fiddle with it I can get it to work. It sucks. But I have only played an hour or so of this game but its great. So is starflight.
@ChiliTomatoNoodle By the way, there is a way of knowing where the Rat's Nest is, the original manual came with a multitude of maps that wrote hte names of various locations in the game etc, including the Rat's Nest.
But you are right, in that without the manual, there is no way of knowing other than trial-and-error.
Actually, it's pretty well-established that the Genesis version of Shadowrun is the definitive one. It is the most entertaining, non-linear, detailed, and immersive of the three. It also had a better combat system and handled the matrix much better than the SNES version. The SNES is #2. The only thing it had over the Genesis version was slightly better character portrait graphics but the gameplay was inferior in almost every way (the crappy gun aiming/shooting system? wtf?).
@lancerCNCS1 Not trying to restart this argument, but on SNES, you got pulled into a story that unfolded right before you and was centered on your character. On Genesis, you were just dumped into a level-up RPG game world where a bunch of other things were going on around you, the main plot wasn't a big deal, and your character was a nobody. Yes, the controls on Genesis were better, there was more to do, and the RPG elements were superior, but for an immersive story, the SNES was far better.
@J4Video Although I do agree that the SNES' story was better, the poor gameplay in the SNES version (weird combat/clunkyaiming system, poor matrix combat..etc) really sucked the enjoyment out of whatever story was being told (at least for me).
got worked up.. broke out in sweat...... its just that, this is probably the best game ever and to say the snes version was better well, made me crazy. just crazy man. i apologize.
The Genesis version is the most true to the original dice-and-paper RPG. The SNES mixes up magic and tech too strangely. And the 360 version is just another crappy FPS.
It breaks my heart.
But to this day, I still have no idea what "Chucky Like" means.
yes that is correct, but so far it´s only a idea, the company that owns the license is currently working on Mechwarrior 5 and have said if the sales for that is good and the company earns enough revenue from that one they might go for a Shadowrun game.
@ChiliTomatoNoodle Correct, Jordan Weisman owns all the rights to FASA-based computer-games once again, through his company Smith & Tinker, they currently only have plans announed for the MechWarrior/BattleTech franchise, but here's fingers crossed they will make use of the Shadowrun license if their new MechWarrior/BattleTech game does well.
@Machina323 I totally forgot about that part. I got about 1/3 of the way through the game and couldn't get anything done, even with the badge and the fake papers... I had to distribute 300 points in 1 sitting at the hotel in downtown... things got MUCH easier after that...
When I was a kid this game was awesome simply for the fact that it wasn't a medieval RPG. It was something different in an amazingly new world that made it easy to get lost in on those long boring days.
his game was excellent - great combo of real time fighting with a very imaginative setting

@StephenWebb1980 Damn right ABBACAB I still remember it all these years after. Fantastic game on the Genesis. Too bad it was shitty on the SNES.

@LuckyDT Agreed. I played the SNES one for a while but felt it lacked the true grit of the Shadowrun world.

There was a certain mysticism and dark spirituality about the SNES version.

Sounds unfair but i couldnt get playing the SNES version more than 30 mins. Its just bad in every way when it comes to gameplay.
I enjoyed Gen version so much. Maybe the best RPG to date.
Either way shame we cant get anything modern like this.
