  • 13th Floor Elevators are worth a mention especially Easter Everywhere which is different class

  • Trust - The Pretty Things [England] - 1968 - "One of their BEST. Further BEATLES-esque comparisons may also be drawn from May, Waller, and Povey's mastery of three-part harmony vocals. Very good guitar." - The Psychedelic Years (Snapper Disc 1)-2001.

One of my better UK band finds. :-)

NOTE: If there's a band that deserves a good compilation, it's the Pretty Things. Thankfully, Snapper has the rights to the band's entire catalog, and has done an excellent job of remastering individual albums.

  • trust me, a fantastic tune

  • This and Early Peter Gabriel era Genesis ,... And Bowie - the best shit !!

  • What happened to good music like this?! :'(

  • Have you heard of Spirit? They're good (The 12 Dreams of Dr. Sargonagus- probably spelt that wrong). Also Love (Da Capo and Forever changes) and Yes. The Small Faces(Odgon's Nut gone Flake) Nilsson (The Point)

  • I love this I like listening to this music trust on a bus journey

  • The song of a man on the edge

  • Don't get too heavily into this album good as it is - you'll end up commiting suicide! And NO way do it on 'acid'! You have been warned

[I MUST get round to playing this and all my other vinyls from my misspent youth!]

  • @eastindiaman did this on purple haze yellow sunshine microdot and magic mushrooms with others great song

  • Polskich użytkowników YT, poszukujących więcej wiedzy o „SF Sorrow”, zapraszam: cogra.pl/index.php/szacun/kumple-sierzanta/

  • Great song!

  • Incredible!! And still...

  • A GREAT ALBUM...variety and deep shit

  • I was at Phil May's pad once and I saw this cover art was a mural on his bedroom wall - he was the artist

  • fav song from my fav british psych album ever x

  • Love this album.

  • Wow, that cover art or whatever it is rules. As a drug-free surrealist, I appreciate it.

  • gimp

  • No, it's DFS. That's the abbreviation for Drug Free Surrealist. I don't know what GIMP stands for.

  • The band were on the MarK LaMar radio 2 show a few months back and did an amazing version of Old Man Going

    Jim

  • What an album! S.F.Sorrow ftw!

  • incredible song!!!

  • Great track - brilliant album - happy memories :o)

  • This album makes me kind of shyly proud of the era I lived in as a teen. Im glad to hear Pretty Things are STILL appreciated!

Man! The tales I could tell of my youth! (all true as well!)

  • If you like this check out Caravans "if I could do it all over again, i'd do it all over you" early 70's classic

  • This band has so many good songs it's scary!

  • this band have not dated one bit . still sound as good now as they ever did . classic

  • Sgt Peppers was the album of the day but SF Sorrow might actually be a better record!!! and then came Parachute

  • sf sorrow reduces sgt pepper to dust!

  • Why would you have, in your mind, one expression seem superior over another expression?!? Strange beast thou art...

  • you have no sympathy for man's burden of needing an ideal.

  • You have a snake in your psyche committing sinful deeds.

  • Gee whiz....

  • @shetalkscrazytalk84

I heard this album first....Pepper seemed dull by comparison...in my opinion

  • @SuperBlackWalrus better than/worse than: It's subjective surely.

  • Comment removed

  • @SuperBlackWalrus What do you mean? I love SF Sorrow. I also love Sgt Pepper. So, which is definitively "best"? Well, both push different boundaries. Both are fantastically experimental. Both are packed with great ideas and strong melodies. Sgt Pepper is (debatably) overrated and SF Sorrow, underrated. One could throw Forever Changes, Odessey and Oracle and Moby Grape's first album into the mix too if you like? But "best" is surely a subjective thing when it comes to music.

  • @TomPoop There is no debating when it comes an album like Sgt.Peppers.That's just the way it is, school boy!

  • @SuperBlackWalrus Helloo, I still don't know what your point is. Explainez vous. (That was made up French: I am drunk)

  • Comment removed

  • @SuperBlackWalrus Erm, ok. haha

  • @SuperBlackWalrus I think it's a shame to listen to Sgt. Pepper's WITHOUT debating--and reflection. For one thing, it's well known that there's a lot of Pet Sounds in there, which is a fine source to draw on. So does the fact that Sgt. Pepper's as we know would not exist without Pet Sounds make Pet Sounds the greater album?! As to S.F. Forrow, I like it a lot and think it's really underrated but at least it's place in history is clear because it heavily influenced Tommy by The Who.

  • @shetalkscrazytalk84 Wot no Tommy?

  • I love this record, it sounds the nearest thing I've ever heard to The Beach Boys circa Surf's Up. Just as fresh and melodic and poignant as the best of Brian Wilson and that's saying something.

  • this song sounds a bit like The Who. nevermind. This album is all time classic!!!!! Pretty Things are awesome and genial!!

  • The Who ripped this album off when they made Tommy.

  • yeah the who also borrowed from procol harum's "shine on brightly"

  • Just picked up that Philip DeBarge album that came out between S.F.Sorrow and Parachute...it's okay, but I tend to reach for the Single's A's & B's collection on Harvest when I can't get enought of 1968-1970 era Pretty Things.

  • Check out The Electric Banana. That is the same era Pretty Things in the flesh. Great trippin music. Also check out the band Family Music In A Dolls House.

  • I have that Electric Banana record...I need to go pback and listen to it again. As for Family's "Music In A Doll House"...amazing...I hear this is also Sir Paul McCartney's favourite record of all time...whatever weight that carries...2nd place would be It's Only A Movie It's Only A Show and Bandstand.

  • os mutantes

  • gran disco

  • 13th floor elevators

  • Great sound...SF sORROW is a great album...5 stars..... *****

  • *Psychedelic

  • Fucking quality! Only just discovered this band. Anyone else know of any overlooked psychelic 60`s groups that they can recommend?

  • I'd put a word in for Love's "Forever Changes" and the Zombies' "Odessey and Oracle"

  • Don't forget The Moody Blues. "Days Of Future Passed", and "In Search Of The Lost Chord" are great albums. Very Psychedelic!

  • @FlynnyRT Not off the top of me head mate, but I can recommend a forgotten psychedelic album by a not so psychedelic band. The Who - -The Who Sell Out (1967). Great concept album!

  • @FlynnyRT

have you heard the whole album?it's meant to be listened to in order and there are small introductory poems that connect each song also worth reading as you listen.check out the zombies-odessey and oracle,love-forever changes, the who-the who sell out ,a quick one.king crimson-the court of the crimson king,P.F.M.-anything from the early 70's and obviously the beatles, without whom all this would not have been possible.

  • @FlynnyRT tune in to Pete Dixon's show on Mondays from 7-10PM @ kfjc.org (research his old playlists until u can catch his archival show!)

  • @FlynnyRT Easiest way to find them is to look at the mainstream Band members and find their old bands! i.e. Chris Squire's "The Syn"... Steve Howe (and this band's drummer, Twink) - "Tomorrow". and Keith Emerson's old band "The Nice."

  • @FlynnyRT where do you start with that!

  • @FlynnyRT

    i can,, i really can

  • @FlynnyRT Hey man there's a lot of incredible bands from the sixties and seventies that more people should know. Big Star, Tomorrow, Love, Moby Grape, Spirit, Chocolate Watchband, Bubble Puppy, Demian, and Morning just to name a few.

  • top track..dont a couple of these guys hang out with dylan in the hotel on dont look back, during the 'who threw that glass out of the window' temporary cool loss?

  • Just discovered this song on the radio - have been searching for somewhere where I can listen to it!! Thank you!

  • great song...maybe "the great lost psyhedelic album".

    a masterpiece.

thank you, as i wipe a tears...

  • Thank you so much for this post. I have not heard this song for at least 30 years when I sold my entire collection of vintage albums. I completely forgot about this song and this album and this band. Could you possibly post S F Sorrow is Born? Thanks, Tom

  • Thanks a lot for this post!
