What year is the footage at 1:03 from? If it's 1982 then "Prisoner" was still very much in production. They obviously weren't filming any exterior shots for "Prisoner" that day as the Prison *Yard* is full of parked Cars!
What fantastic footage. Even back then, the parking looks like a bloody nightmare! You can clearly make out the part of the building used for Prisoner, outside shots of Wentworth.
@indiana1977 I think the car parking is only crowded because it looks like the footage was taken on a day when the grounds of Channel 10 were opened up for a Fair Day (you can see some of the amusements set up to the left of the building), so obviously lots of visitors to the site.
@TelevisionAU Ahhh, That would explain it. Thanks for that. I really hope that they manage to save this historic piece of Australian TV. Though I heard that the land is worth a fortune and housing is encroaching on all sides of the site. It certainly looks that way on Google Earth.
Granada TV Studios in Manchester are also being demolished when it closes in 2012. Again not listed, and it was built before the Nunawading studios of Channel Ten. By the way what the hell do Global Television make? They have had the studios in Nunawading since 1992.
Cont'd... cultural and historic interest. If nothing's done within the next few years they'll all be gone to make way for houses, apartments and retail. Start the campaign now to get ATV0 protected! At least BBC TV Centre has listed status here in the UK
Shame nobody seems to want to list buildings like this in either Australia or the UK. They're vanishing fast and with them a whole chapter of history in network TV. Better examples should be protected because like old cinemas and theatres, they are and will be of cultural
I don't know about anyone else but I just love production music. Does anyone know what that was in the last couple of seconds of the film, some sort of market or showground type set.
Wow..as someone that now works for ATV-10 and has been at the network for nearly ten years... only while at Como Centre in South Yarra...I find this video to be fascinating. It would have been great to be at the network back in the Hey Day at the old studios.
@craig3008 i know what you mean about being in the Network back then.. Anyone in any role at any time who has worked in this studio, on Prisoner, Neighbours or what ever, should feel HIGHLY priveledged. I am a t.v/ film uni graduate in England and I would work at that studio for nothing if I was in Australia, it would be a priveledge.. just like buy up in 'Prisoner'
Thanks so much for posting this. Very interesting bit of footage. I cant believe how small an area was used for the Prisoner exterior set at 1.06, its only a tiny bit stuck on the side. Your right, the building is historic, but I think it will go eventually, If what you say is true about the value of the land and demand for houses.
@jiggarypokery Yeah, does look small. Wonder if this footage is even older cos if you look you cannot see any of the false barred windows which were stuck on to the side of the building.
@penguin75 Sections of this were filmed at different times. At 0:21 there are no 'Prisoner' cell windows and no 'Holiday Island' swimming pool or outdoor set (later used as Lassiters in 'Neighbours'.) At 1:00 there's a pool, lake, 'Holiday Island' set, and cell windows.
I'd say Dennys was there at the time this was taken....a good companion to the Burvale..haha

Some nice aerial shots of the "Holiday Island" exterior set, later featured in "Neighbours" as "Lassiters"...
