If you think less of the Rangers you're wrong, and don't know what your talking about. The Rangers have been around since 1676. They're the first spec ops unit, fighting in every major U.S. conflict since World War II in 1942. They are proven through history, and don't need to prove anything to you. The U.S. Army Rangers are the worlds toughest light Infantry. There's a reason the U.S. Army Rangers are the United States premier special operations light infantry force. Rangers Lead The Way!
You'll need to respect the military, I'm a U.S. Army Operation Iraqi Freedom veteran, and respect is an important quality of any troop. All of you direspecting Rangers proofs your aren't troops. Every spec ops unit trains for specific objectives, they work together but can't do each others missions, one isn't better than the other, they're all required for victory. This video is a demo and in combat this allows Rangers to ingage the enemy while rappeling, its effective or they wouldn't use it.
Listen, I'm not knocking Marines, as they are bad-assed in combat, but when the elite of the USMC is chosen to become force recon, they are sent to two U.S. Army schools: Airborne school, and R.I.P.-that lets you know that the US Army Ranger is the more elite light infantryman. Hell, take that Marine cockney to a warfighter from the 82nd, 173rd, or the 101st. Or, even to one from the 3rd, 4th, or the Big Red One, and see what happens. Marines are bad asses to non-marines...
OMG! All of you marine wannabes love comparing the USMC to the Army Airborne Ranger. Unless you are force recon, the average marine is NOTHING like a Airborne Ranger. We are the Elite of the Light Infantry-Period! Marines find that out when they have to go to R.I.P.; Hell I've seen quite a few Marines wash out of the Army Sapper School, which is half the time of R.I.P. What's more, is that many Marines that go to the Army Infantry because they think is "easier" catch a rude awakening...
Hahaha when I went through army airborne school 4/13 Marines in my platoon quit and we had a prior force recon PSG. US army rangers are on a much higher level as elitists compared to the average marine. But then you can go back and forth between Marine force recon vs Army rangers or army special forces. If your going to stereotype do it by patch not and not uniform.
but all in all i do have mad respect for all military and even more for grunts no matter what branch. but what can we say when we are brought up to be biased in our ways. so to all the real men and some woman who honorably served there country and made a commitment to do more then the average joe then props. but what is a little friendly rivalry... btw we should of adapted some thick skin so in my humor please understand that is just all fun and nothing against any branch of service.
@farmboymt - why don't you talk to your Gunny about going to Ranger School so you can show them how it's done, then? I'll bet the two Marines who graduated in my brother's class have a lot more respect for the Ranger Instructors than you do. Btw, I've seen Marines do equally pointless things as part of demonstrations, and none of the Marine NCO's I've known have had anything but respect for Army Ranger School (worked next to a former Recon Gunny for five years, still meet him for lunch).
what the fuck was he gonna hit shooting like that. no shit it was the army. spray and pray you stupid fucking dumb ass worthless bitches. god you guys are dumb.
@MrTja1980 You assume that the Australian rappel would only be done from a helicopter, the US Army teaches it as a means of descending a steep slope, not necessarily a vertical one. It has been performed as part of US Army Ranger and Special Forces demonstrations with weapons fire for at least the past thirty years, if not longer. I've seen it done with M4's (as in this picture), M16A1's, M249's, and M60's.
@pokeylilpuppy Back at the time of the Seoul Olympics, they showed footage of the Korean Special Forces performing a modification of the Australian rappel in which the rappeler did not stop at 90 degrees to the tower, but continued on until they had their belly against the tower and had hooked their feet on the line above them, so they looked like a giant crawdad descending, this would allow them to stop and fire a submachinegun in from the top of a window. A fun technique to perform.
@pokeylilpuppy depends on how high you start off at. When I first started the cliffs were only around the 10m mark. just to warm up on. now its nothing under 40m.

the ranger rappel i swear is easier then the regular rappel. it's just a little scarier for some people at first.
