agreed, everyone has their own point oif veiw. I believe that Canadians do not vote IN priministers, Canadians vote OUT priministers. Anyways it's great to finally see some passion from the electorate.
One other thing whilst I'm in the mood :P Harper shut down parliament=yes (with the backing of the govenor general)for 6 weeks=no. They are now on Christmas break for 6 weeks which is the norm. Does anyone really think that if Jack Layton or that Dion guy were in the position of no confidence they would'nt do the same thing??If you think no then your a newbie to Canadian politics.I'm a conservative but that doesn't mean I trust Harper 100% I think their ALL scallywags.
The problem with our set up (political scallywags) is that once elected their primary focus changes to getting re-elected.
Do you mean, would they have shut things down over Christmas? Yes, of course they would of. They would of needed the time just to get their crap back in to a pile.
I'm more upset with all the people here whining that don't vote, don't speak up, and who don't participate.
How about Harper now stacking the senate, 18 newbies, after he said they need to be elected?
Yeah, that (senate stacking) pissed me off, too. But I'm pretty sure he only did it because he hears those long knives getting drawn in his own party and wants one last influential power play.
Honestly, whether he somehow survives this coalition (which I personally hope he won't) or not, his own party will never forgive him for putting them in this position in the first place.
Great post! Totally agree with everything you said. But the news isnt THAT one-sided. I think the loud Conservative minority make the headlines while the silent majority are overlooked (generally)...IMO CBC does a pretty good job, however.
Cons keep saying "We voted them in", blah blah blah. Less than 60% of Canadians voted and of those voters 36%(?) voted Conservative.
So are you saying that we should got to a 2 party system? No government in Canada has ever got a majority with the popular vote.We have 4 party's in Canada so it's not really possible , One has no buisness even being there. I think we need to reform our system cuz it sucks.Harper got in according to our current system, so blathering about Harper is pointless...Fight the system!
I wasn't saying that...BUT since the Canadian alliance, Progressive Conservatives and Reform Party all merged there is tremendous pressure on the other side to also do so. It isn't fair that we have 1 party that fills everything from centre to far right and (potentially) 4 parties for centre to far left. With so many parties we need popular votes and coalitions (it works in Europe so why not here?).
why would you want to move out of bc. what wrong with it i will be old enough to vote next electin but in school they ownly teach old 1600-1900 goverments so i dont know anything so.......... yea what the diffrence between the partys or the provinces and all that
Not neccessarily, I said that they are "biased". You must be East of me. Out here they only seem to air the opinion from someone from the Fraser Institute (conservative think tank). Our local news seem to be NDP supporters.
I've even caught CBC lately giving more "news" airtime to conservative views than to any of the other parties. (During contentious times it is hard to remain neutral.)
To get a balanced understanding you need comments/responses too. (CBC does that, youtube too.)
I am sorry for Candians, You are so naive and in fact I am canadian too, with experience of being ex-Iranian, We now have an AYATOLAH Governor General. She can FATWAH to kill everything to destroy democracy. Welcome to Islamic Republic of Canada !!!
An interesting perspective. Like the US though, not all Canadians share the same views as, or are/act like, what is presented in the media and to the rest of the world.
Naive, some yes, but worse still more are willfully ignorant.
Plus, a large majority have been beaten down to where they no longer care, feel they are right, or even have the right, worth to speak out. Surviving is hard enough.
Knowing a bit about the world, I want to commend you for speaking up.
kingrexrex666 you are right, the Coalition is Canada's best choice for doing what's right for the people. The GG is an overpaid rubber stamper. Harper should have let the MPs do their job and do a vote of confidence! Coward.
Hey Steve, don't know exactly what you are upset about as I am from the U.S. but I totally agree with you on the voting thing. People are sheep if they don't vote. One side or the other, vote. Just hope you don't have a heart attack because of your passion.
lol, no my wife was a TM instructor she has me take a deep breath every now and then.
I get a tad (uh?) upset over the apathy up here (served with much whine and jeez)
Many complain in private and when some poor sob decides to speak up for the group they all take a step back to see what happens to him/her first before they give their backing or support.
Like elsewhere we have 10 to 20 percent (corection 22%, hehheh) that figure the rest of us think (or should think) the same way.
Good to see someone as angry as I am, Im sick and tired of Canadian's walking around thinking it's funny not to vote.
Everyone think's its more important to watch funny cartoons than listen to whats going on in our own country, they just want to zombie out, don't want to hear about it, and im sick and tired of it.
All of our media outlets are corrupt, we need a Canadian Info wars website.
We have terrible local and provincial news here, quite often it is one sided and somewhat part of a propaganda campaign.
This kind of forum and the "responses" section of the news articles are just as good. The news websites/papers/stations that just do not allow responses are the ones to watch out for.
Don't believe anything you read, nothing you hear, and half of what you see. Enlighten yourself, research history, look past what your being led to believe. But thanks you liberals, geen or whatever.... you helped us secure a majority goverment at last...Wow have you seen th polls. Canadians are in fury about this stunt the fool Dion has pulled!

One question, Kamloopian. Do you see the seperation of church and state as a good idea or as simply a generally accepted practice? I only ask because Canada was founded by England at a time when it actually unified church and state (Anglicanism) with strong infulences by the French population, who remained more loyal to the Catholic church than to either France or Canada (particularly since they did not participate in the French Revolution and remained loyal to their original traditions).
Although none of those acutally answered my question directly, I think I get your point. But what I was asking was more along the lines of the actual spereation. I'm just wondering where and when you beleive that they were seperated. Since Canada (and it's constitutional papers) were written by people who did not beleive in disestablishmentarianism, if it exists, it must have come from somewhere.
Upon rereading my original question, I'll admit that it was phrased rather poorly. (I was still more preoccupied with EF2000 and pissed off that moronic bigots like that have become the face of religous people in general)
Also, the argument that religion has lead to atrocities is a misleading one. While the institutions responsible for these many terrible acts (I'll be the last to try to deny or defend them) may have been religious ones, they were acting independently of the very guidelines they were supposed to be protecting at the time. It's really kind of like saying that we shouldn't have police officers because there have been cases of corruption, or that no scientists would mean no more bombs or weapons.
Regardless of whether or not they were acting outside the guidlines or scope of their work, they had the authority to do so.
I either disagree or don't understand your analogy. Every society needs a judical system (laws enforced though need to be based on "truths" and not warped by political or religous beleifs.)

Of course, that doesn't mean that they SHOULD have politicial influence in modern society, only that one argument against them is weak.

There has been more atrocities performed throughout history in the name of "God" than over political beliefs.
Do the pagans get schools, civil rights, sewer upgrades? Or just the "flavour of the day" religous norms?
No one (or government) should be able to enforce there spiritual beliefs on others. (i.e. That's why there's a war with the Taliban)
They should be able to put forth plans, opinions and ideas that benefit the populace; and we should have the right to debate them.

But like I said, I don't think it has been seperated yet.
