This video is awesome, I guess in my heart I always wanted to be a pilot, but alas I am very nearsighted, However my brother-in-law flies to Europe all the time for a major airline, so I think in a way I live through him. Keep up the great videos, Michele.
hahaha... today the modern 777 has E-Charts which is electronic database of all checklists, taxiways (live diagrams, like a live gps), runways, airport charts, etc. no need for paper !
It was pretty busy that day. The 777 is a pretty big plane huh? I think it is now my favorite airliner. They havent been in operation that long have they?
@josephjester yeah i realize that. But, a video camera is not a big deal to the aircraft. Only transmitting devices like cell phones can interfere with navigation.
even cell phones doesn't affect anything with the aircraft
they tell you to turn off your phones and devices so YOU WILL PAY ATTENTION TO THE FLIGHT ATTENDANTS. The "electromagnetic interference" crap is just an excuse. no airline will ever say "please turn off or electronic devices otherwise you have a more of a potential to die if you don't listen to us if God forbid we crash landed" what sounds more pleasing? :D
@AaronSk8Man, The reason the 777, or any aircraft calls out minimums is to let the pilots know in low visibility that if they have missed approach, then that specific height is the minimum go-around, and after you descend below it you are committed to land.
i like those headsets that united use which are special ergonomically desinged shaped for the ear canal. THey are shaped like a hearing aid. they eliminate the pressure that headband headsets cause on the ear. if you look on the united 777 dvd you see the guy on there is wearing one and it looks much more comfortable than an ordinary headset.
There's not alot to really do onboard airplanes. Thats what makes them so boring at cuise. IF they had more to do on them it would be better. THey need to make airplanes like cruise ships. I thought the a380 was gonna be like a cruise ships with loads of entertainment onboard and ice rings and stuff like that. CAn we not make nuclear powered airplanes
If you pause at :53, you'll notice there's a string dangling from the roof of the cockpit.. I noticed that on an earlier video of a KLM 777-300ER. What is it?
Thats not a string, its the wires to the pilot headsets. They are plugged into the ceiling console, as they are stored in the ceiling as well. I'm sure its to avoid constraining the pilot if he gets up or moves in his seat, and avoids accidentally getting wrapped around the stick.
Hah, thats pretty cool, and weird, that when they were landing, there were like planes on the side, (duh) and its like all of them are waiting to cross or takeoff, and like they were watching them land lol. i think its pretty cool
You know, the speed of which an airplane lands in dependent of how heavy it is? Of course, the fuel and passengers are what makes this variable change, because fuel, obviously, adds weight. The more fuel onboard in the landing, the heavier the aircraft will be, so it will landing at a higher speed. For example if the aircraft is a full flight, and there are 60000 kilograms of fuel on board, the aircraft might landing at around 150, whereas 30000 kg of fuel might be 135 knots, both a 30 flaps
Tornado, 'twsiter' or waterspout, A cyclone is the southern hemisphere equivelant of a hurricane which is a weather system rather than a small localised event such as a twister.
the people that get in the cockpit are mostly staff (stewardes, people from the company on duty) or other pilots flying to a destination on board not in the cockpit ond if the flight is totaly booked out pilots are alowed to use the jumd seat.
i dunno how you could say thats high... given he touched down in the TD zone with about 3 k of runway left to spare, obviously spent too much time in a 172 rather than a real plane with 2 two engines
lol, well yes I have spent a lot of time in a 172, but you the PAPI is showing slightly high, he also touched down slightly past the second touch down marker.
you will notice when you land at airports with a papi, that they will change colour just before TD, also the 777 is about 8 meters between the wheels and the pilots eye, so if the camera had been where the wheels are you might have said "slightly low, nice TD" and his mains would have been behind the second marker aswell
Why does the glideslope indicator say that they're too high?
