AFL requires skills, fitness, endurance, strength, balance and numerous other things while in NRL all you need to do is to be able to run straight into a bloke right in front of you. In AFL you will be tackled fromevery direction, inNRL 99% of the time itis just front on stuff. Plus AFL requires lots more tactics/strategy than in NRL. I am Victorian and have actually gotten more in to NRL than AFL. I think AFL fans who think NRL requires less skill are completely ignorant. They both take an incredible amount of skill to perfect the craft. Izzy and K have walked on to AFL teams and actually played well, i doubt any AFL player could do the same in the NRL, maybe Buddy Franklin but that's it. NRL also has a rapidly growing, and already huge, international game. AFL isn't even close to being international. NRL wins for mine.

AFL tried to combine basketball, volleyball soccer and rugby and ended up with the most uncordinated and ugly spectacle known to man, and the faggy singlets and shorts dont help either. there are a few nice passages of play here and there but mostly its unco tall dudes fumbling the ball everywhere. Nrl has a nz team Victorian team a.c.t team getting a team in Perth getting a png team three teams in Queensland and getting another one and 10 in nsw. Plus the nrl always gets big crowds in the NT and south Australia when they send teams down there very couple of rounds. Not to mention there's 40 countries that play rugby league! i really dont care what sport people think is better, personally i love NRL and anyone is free to like what they want. But i would like someone to explain to me the superior "skills" that AFL players are supposed to have. I admit they have more stamina for running around but i see no evidence of superior ball skills when there is no penalty for poor ball control (such as a knock on in NRL) as long as you get it back you just keep fumbling along...surely that rule alone deteriorates ball skills.

Personally I love watching NRL although I grew up as an AFL boy so I have a lot of appreciation for it. And I grew up playing 'Soccer' which is prob my favourite on an International scale.
with all that i gotta say that for me at least NRL is the winner. But AFL is still an entertaining game and both sports shit on the jokes that are soccer and basketball.
Oh and to the idiots who try to say league isn't footy. Football means a team sport played on foot with a a ball instead of on a horse. excitement - Look i don't mind AFL but if i'm not watching the lions or the grand final i just can't watch the game. The highlights are good yes but they are few and far between, majority of the game is a bunch of grown men trying to pick up what must be a greased up soap ball.
Spirit - kinda tricky. No competition in the world is as spirited as state of origin, however if you aren't a cane toad or a cockroach it doesn't really apply to you
strength - Union players probably the only stronger players pound for pound than league players.
Skill - Extremely skillful game that people don't recognise. The passing and decoy running involved is intense, don't believe me try going to a training session and understanding just what is going on. I did it recently in both AFL and Rugby League and i caught on to the AFL practice much easier, i still don't really know what was going on in the league session

Speed - League is probably the fastest game in the world the clock rarely stops and all players on the field are constantly moving throughout the entire 80 mins.
Toughness - The only bigger collisions in a sport are in martial arts and NFL, NFL wears enough padding to stop bullets so they're out, so NRL gets second in this one.

AFL requires skills, fitness, endurance, strength, balance and numerous other things while in NRL all you need to do is to be able to run straight into a bloke right in front of you. In AFL you will be tackled fromevery direction, inNRL 99% of the time itis just front on stuff. Plus AFL requires lots more tactics/strategy than in NRL. I am Victorian and have actually gotten more in to NRL than AFL. I think AFL fans who think NRL requires less skill are completely ignorant. They both take an incredible amount of skill to perfect the craft. Izzy and K have walked on to AFL teams and actually played well, i doubt any AFL player could do the same in the NRL, maybe Buddy Franklin but that's it. NRL also has a rapidly growing, and already huge, international game. AFL isn't even close to being international. NRL wins for mine.

Nrl is a much harder sport to play to score in your Crappy sport all u have to do is kick the ball through the posts and if u miss u still get points. Plus your best player can only get a goal from what 30 meters out? If we want to get a field goal we must first bounce the ball and then kick it before it reaches 30 centimeters in the air (which is much harder to do) and we're kicking them from 50 meters out! Nrl has a nz team Victorian team a.c.t team getting a team in Perth getting a png team three teams in Queensland and getting another one and 10 in nsw. Plus the nrl always gets big crowds in the NT and south Australia when they send teams down there very couple of rounds. Not to mention there's 40 countries that play rugby league! I think we spread our game a little bit more than you. By the way Australia won the 2009 for nations and has won the past 12 anzac day tests.

i really dont care what sport people think is better, personally i love NRL and anyone is free to like what they want. But i would like someone to explain to me the superior "skills" that AFL players are supposed to have. I admit they have more stamina for running around but i see no evidence of superior ball skills when there is no penalty for poor ball control (such as a knock on in NRL) as long as you get it back you just keep fumbling along...surely that rule alone deteriorates ball skills.

with all that i gotta say that for me at least NRL is the winner. But AFL is still an entertaining game and both sports shit on the jokes that are soccer and basketball.
Oh and to the idiots who try to say league isn't footy. Football means a team sport played on foot with a a ball instead of on a horse. So technically the term football would refer to the most popular ball sport played on foot in the area. Hence QLD NSW and papua new guinea football is rugby league, rest of australia it's AFL

excitement - Look i don't mind AFL but if i'm not watching the lions or the grand final i just can't watch the game. The highlights are good yes but they are few and far between, majority of the game is a bunch of grown men trying to pick up what must be a greased up soap ball.
Spirit - kinda tricky. No competition in the world is as spirited as state of origin, however if you aren't a cane toad or a cockroach it doesn't really apply to you

strength - Union players probably the only stronger players pound for pound than league players.
Skill - Extremely skillful game that people don't recognise. The passing and decoy running involved is intense, don't believe me try going to a training session and understanding just what is going on. I did it recently in both AFL and Rugby League and i caught on to the AFL practice much easier, i still don't really know what was going on in the league session

I personally prefer NRL because i think it's better in all aspects of sport.
Speed - League is probably the fastest game in the world the clock rarely stops and all players on the field are constantly moving throughout the entire 80 mins.
Toughness - The only bigger collisions in a sport are in martial arts and NFL, NFL wears enough padding to stop bullets so they're out, so NRL gets second in this one.

Personally, I love AFL and I get bored after 5 seconds of NRL, but isn't it pretty cool that the top three winter sports in Australia- AFL, NRL and union, are all full contact, rough, tough, high intensity sports? It shows that Australians are fucking hardcore. Australia would be pretty one-dimensional if we all followed one sport.
