Some stupid lady pushed into the side of my Miata this morning on the way to work (and that was quite fun, because it was raining), but at least she was some old bird, not a presumably qualified driver. I had to follow her over a mile until she stopped, but nothing like the speeds shown here. Too bad you front end got pushed in as a result.
I love these cars. Affordable and so much fun! I think my next will be focused on performance over convenience...
My first instinct is to blame the white and blue guy.....but in his defense it IS necessary to question whether or not he was able to slow down on that grass...Perhaps he tried to but started to slide? Perhaps not, too. All I am saying is that there might be another side to this.
@yeagemk watching this again, the white car appears to initially understeer. and then at 3:22 exactly, there appears to be a small degree of oversteer that he corrects with some countersteering. That lands him on the tarmac that you mentioned, and then eventually onto the grass that I was talking about. I guess you could argue that there was enough space on the tarmac to slowdown, but its questionable...it could have been slippery. Just my two cents.
that guy was a dumbass... what did he think ppl were just gonna make a hole for him to get back on. sorry about the car man... all that build up for nothing
Seems kind of dumb to have blocked off his re-entry back onto the track, I think the grass would have been too slippery for him to have slowed to a stop.
Wow. I would have punched that dude in the face after the race. Even if he said sorry. Where is the racing etiquette. He went off because he messed up. Then he comes back on with no regard takes you out and continues on. What a dick.
you know what the funny thing is? the white and blue got on the grass with noooooobody around him on, what looks like, one of the easiest turns you could take and he took it too fast and went off on his own. I think he was drunk man. He had nobody to his left side. I feel bad for u 2 guys. What happens in a situation like that to you guys and the cars? does the other team pay for it or something or... ? I was also curious if there were prizes for the podium winners?
WOW make a CLEANNNN pass off some1 going off track and get pitted by them (looks like the guy going off track is the one that pitted you)! tough luck. nice vid. i'd love to see more!
you never rejoin after you went off track man and ive never even been on a track. also, does this guy get taught apex before he gets to drive let alone race the car?
I was working turn 2 during this race. The Miatas came in 5 wide and at least 5 deep through turn 1. Someone was bound to go off and he should have stopped off track instead of risking other racers. Idiot!
Blue car was at fault -no question. He clearly had plenty of time to slow-down and then rejoin at the back. Instead he tried to limit his losses and made the concious decision to keep the speed up and try to merge, even though the space wasn't there
It's definitely the blue miata's fault. He had lots of asphalt in the run-off area to slow down but you can see that instead he decides to keep going at full speed. He should have braked, but he didn't.
oh man that sucks.. got hit from behind, spun out and frontal colission.. and the race was just started. the blue car driver is an asshole! unless he lost his brakes then that is whats gonna happen..
That was pretty dumb, the way he seemed to be getting excited before the race was really childish, and where did he expect that car to go after it went off the road?
Actually, the blue car had a lot of cement of asphalt (not sure what kind of road that is O_O) before the grassy area when he overshot. He did have room to stop.
It's not the camera guys fault....he had nowhere to go...All he could have done is hit the brakes in preparation for the hit, but that might have caused a whole other accident.
It's really nobody's fault. It was a racing incident. The blue car overshot the corner. I think he tried to slow it down on what little asphalt he had, but when you hit grass...your speed obviously increases.
The blue car was at fault. When you track off, you stay off until traffic clears up and it is safe for you to do so. It was his responsibility to come to a complete stop. In fact, during a race he would be black flagged for aggressive driving.
@openwheel6 This wasn't a racing incident... As you can see, the miata first thinks about braking. But he let's go of his brakes, then actually pushes on his throttle. You can tell by the blue miata first slowly getting out of the camera's view when he has his brakes on *brake lights*, but then, the blue miata is going the same speed as the camera car. That means that the blue miata actually pressed the throttle. Definitely didn't even try to stop. Pressed the brakes for less than half a second.
@itisphillip I notice what you are saying now. But still, as a racer, you couldn't just sit on the sidelines and watch everyone go by! I think he saw a gap in his mirror, and decided to go for it, which ended up being a disaster. Definitely not a racing incident now that I look back on it though.
that's blue cars problem..he go out because he was going too fast and the camera guy have almost the same problem on that corner so he cant just move over to avoid...that's physics
I love how #68 waves. Thats suck what happened i can see you had no where to go in that. I can't really fault the guy in the blue miata (from what i can see from the video). It looks like he thought he was in the clear to get back on track after taking that turn a bit to wide, but then again that is racing. It looks like a good group of people took that turn a bit wide too.
My neighbor had his steering wheel pop off in the first corner, drove over 400 miles to wreck in 400ft. You at least want SOME seat time before head home.
What in the hell was that guy in the white and blue miata thinking? He got off track and lost his position he should have just sucked it up. Sucks that two people ended up wrecking because of a dumb move like that.
@chief2001 Brakes don't work so good on grass cheif, slowing from 100mph to 0 before hitting the track again is pretty impossible. Hence why it's partially the fault of the driver who didn't slow/leave room to let him in.
@skythra lol first of all he's not going 100 mph, second of all most of what he was driving on was asphalt, he was just greedy trying to keep his place and merge in and realized he wouldn't be able to too late. i've raced this track many times i know there's pavement on the outside of that turn.
I bet that was annoying. And expensive to fix.

@yeagemk It looks to me like where he went off was paved. Pause at 3:22 to see the long stretch of tarmac he is on.
