@letschat6 One chord at a time, sweetie. Very slowly and evenly. But you're practicing and recording many decent songs! You're well on your way to playing much more challenging stuff than this little ragtime. =) Good luck!
It would've been a lot easier if you transcribed this in cut time, at around 150 bpm. 300+ is pretty unreasonable. Otherwise, this is friggin' amazing.
What's the part called from part 19 to 49 (0:22 to 0:47)? That's the part I recognise most, but what's the name of the song at that part called in general if you know what I mean?
Seeing the notes for near-legendary music like this and being musically inclined enough to appreciate how much effort went into making it and having it flow and fit...
I have to wonder how the video game industry attracted so many musical geniuses.
@mariosunshinefaan You said Air Platform sounded noobish, which it does, because it's called the "Athletic Theme"..............I was agreeing with you!
@Astromchaser I have the music, but it doesn't neatly fit on two staves like this one. I could condense it from 8 staves down to maybe 3, but it would lose quite a bit of the integrity of the transcription in the process (e.g. panning of parts, probably instrumentation, too.) Or I could write the parts and "sync" it to an mp3 of my transcription in its original 8-staff form. I think I'd find that a bit too "lip-synchy" for my tastes.
- No. For a few reasons. One: This transcription of the song is not actually playable by one person. If you look at :45 into the video, there's no way that can be played honestly, by one pair of hands'
@MrEumelDigga He obviously hasn't seen Tom Brier play this piece. He played it perfectly and embellished upon it on his SIGHT-READ; never seen or heard the piece before.
@MrEumelDigga You're right, of course you could play that! Virtually any piece by Scriabin would be unplayable if actual simultaneity were the only "honest" articulation.
- No. For a few reasons. One: This transcription of the song is not actually playable by one person. If you look at :45 into the video, there's no way that can be played honestly, by one pair of hands."
Have you thought about letting people download the video so they could watch it on their computer, slow it down, loop certain parts, so they could learn how to play, beacuse that wouldn't require going through learning to make a pdf, or any of that stuff, just upload it to MediaFire and add the link the description.
@justybocky321 yep. and if you pay attention, youll notice the left hand part is just playing quarter notes through most of it...that are pretty dog-gone fast for quarter notes. and the half notes are almost 16th notes. imagine trying to play actual 16th notes at that tempo, knowing how fast quart and half notes are. youd deff be beast if you could pull it off
@Kampfhanz Yes you are wright, actually I just saw a video here in youtube(tittle: Super Mario Athlete's Rag Air Platform sight-read; Tom Brier) where this guy play it without any help. But as you imagine he is a professional. Watch him!
@pokenaruto54 i could do one hand or the other. i could master both. now playing both at the same time? god id shoot myself if i had to...would be fucking amazing if i did it tho. thatd be my accomplishment for my piano-playing skills (which currently arent that great) tho i agree w/ kampfhanz...you are jumping octaves like a mofo w/ that left hand man...pretty crazy
@k0ptelefoon Thanks for saying so. I don't have this music on a sheet. If you read my caption it explains my process somewhat, via the software I used. Noteworthy Software will play and display the notes that are written, and Screen Capture software will record the footage and make a video file that can be paired with the audio in a movie maker program, which can be uploaded to YouTube.
@8747800 Noteworthy Composer 1.75c. The actual exact tempo is 318.10848BPM, but the first few measures are a bit slower, so I just averaged it out to 317. So if you wanted a perfect tempo, you would use 159BPM instead, and maybe 155 for the first two measures (as I wrote it).
@calamityjames ah that explains to why u have it in real time. cuz i have it in 16th notes lol. and the bass staff its all staccato in exept bar 10, 18, 47, 48, and the 1st note on bar 49.
you made it double timed in the music. For example, the quater notes on the bottom should actually be 8th notes, just for ease of music reading and tempo tracking. Great transcription.
Hey, Ive been wanting to play this song for quite a while and the version I printed is way too difficult and doesn't even sound remotely right when I play it. And I know I'm playing all the right notes. But this one looks much simpler. Is :45 the only time where it is impossible because if so, I will just not play the bottommost note. If you could e-mail me the sheet music I would love to try to play it. My e-mail is syluxrox@yahoo.com
I love sheets with no armor... I wonder if I can play this *thoughtful*. At least it's all fortissimo... shit, that should be tiresome. Imma go for it, though.
@FrankRobinsonIV Those notes are G# in the second measure, both in sound and in writing. The sharp is written on the first beat, the G two ledger lines below the staff. The sharp carries through the entire measure to all G notes on that staff.
@supermariofaan Hehe, yes, I'm over 18. But for what it's worth, I wrote this transcription before I was 18. I just hadn't thought to commit it to video or the internets until much more recently. =)
@supermariofaan Hah, BS that no highschooler could have done it. One of my favorite hobbies in eighth grade was making midis of stuff I knew, and once I got to high school I'd arrange songs for choir and band.
@currymuttonpizza I thought all high schoolers were like my bro. He is SO lazy and all he does is play xbox like it was an artifact blessed from God or something.
It certainly does work! I'd love to see it. I also play recorder, and I was playing the background harmonies with my tenor recorder and the occasional lead harmony with my alto. The lead is on soprano of course.
Does anyone here have sheet music for this song for any version of air platform theme? I just take away the super low notes to make impossible chords possible, so that's not a problem.
Musical writing can be sometimes deceptive: many experienced pianists can play chords like that with a smart use of the right pedal and a hardly audible "acciaccatura". Pianists with little hands are very clever in these moves; not to mention that a tricky pianist with large hands could play that lower G an octave higher and many listeners wouldn't perceive the cheating ;-)
i must thank you, i find it alot easier to listen to music when i can see it at the same time. one question though, when playing the melody parts on the higher notes why do you kill the sound between each part, i feel like it'd sound better if each segment flowed right into the next with a trail (forgive my description if it doesnt make sense, i dont know the jargon for music really).
I know what he's trying to say, The original song did have rests between, but he'd rather see the notes held for the full value of its self and its rest. I personally like the more staccatto notes, Though i think some of the eighths should be quarter notes.
yeah i know the original had rests but thats a midi tune, what works for that doesnt always transfer to piano, i feel that the higher pitched melody parts need to forsake accuracy to the original in favour of making the piano piece flow better. dont you think? ^^
@kereberus My intention was not a better arrangement. Only a better transcription. As an arranger, piano is not really my forte; I'd rather write a brass quintet or a big band jazz score. But your opinion about how this melody could be written is agreeable, and I'm sure it has been utilized by many arrangers.
Fantastic work, Jamie! Out of the many transcriptions I've seen, this one is the most accurate. Even the accidentals (including m. 46) make sense, and the rhythm is exact. As a pianist, I find this transcription very insightful.
The part at 0:16 does not require large, but rather flexible hands.
The part at 0:45 is reminiscent of many, many, many classical pieces and actually can be played quite accurately, it would just be rolled(playing the bottom note with the center or right pedal pressed down and then playing the other two, also in the left hand). This is very playable as written.
MY toddlers love this song ... lol everytime i play it they jump up and start dancing ... hopefully they enjoy looking at sheet music because I have plans for them ..... :)
Wow, that was pretty ridiculous. The version I made by ear (I can't really write sheet music that well) focused more on the right hand as melody and harmony, while the left hand provided base octaves, and because I did it entirely by ear it's not 100% faithful. If I manage to capture it on video without my hands cramping up I'll post it.
If you read the details on this video, Calamityjames says outright: "This transcription of the song is not actually playable by one person. If you look at :45 into the video, there's no way that can be played honestly, by o

i must thank you, i find it alot easier to listen to music when i can see it at the same time. one question though, when playing the melody parts on the higher notes why do you kill the sound between each part, i feel like it'd sound better if each segment flowed right into the next with a trail (forgive my description if it doesnt make sense, i dont know the jargon for music really).

Hey man awesome job.
I use the same program as you and I'm wondering how you put more than one note on the same staff to play at the same time

@em2894 Ctrl+Enter is the keystroke, but perfecting the variations is better achieved via experimentation than explanation.

I'm copying this out on a music sheet, not hand written with a music publisher (free). Is this in C major?

Sure is.

Fantastic work, Jamie! Out of the many transcriptions I've seen, this one is the most accurate. Even the accidentals (including m. 46) make sense, and the rhythm is exact. As a pianist, I find this transcription very insightful.

Commenting on two notes I have read here:
The part at 0:16 does not require large, but rather flexible hands.
The part at 0:45 is reminiscent of many, many, many classical pieces and actually can be played quite accurately, it would just be rolled(playing the bottom note with the center or right pedal pressed down and then playing the other two, also in the left hand). This is very playable as written.

0:16 is neary impossible to play in real, you need really big hands for it. but the arragement song sounds good.

MMLeung - Super Mario Medley. Crazy.
