Pidgin's pretty lightweight, but it supports loads of services.
Sorry. But there isn't much of a support for Yahoo Messenger on linux. We're expecting a new IM-ing client called "Digsby" soon, but at this point, there isn't much to do.
BTW, Pidgin isn't bad. It's got features which you need to start a text messaging conference with file transfer but just lacks features like voice and video conference.
Sorry if i made you misunderstand. I'm just saying that Pidgin, although not as many features as aMSN and others is the only client current supporting Yahoo and various other ones.

you could try it with wine, but I don't think It would work seamlessly.
