  • Some people don't understand what New Zealand goes through but especially down here in South Auckland. We are known as dirty and un-civilized people who are dangerous.... And this song explained everything. We..... Everyone in SA, we are pre-judged and that is unfair.

Why? We ALL are not bad people but there are bad children and adults in South Auckland, no, Everywhere.

This was the best song of the year, It was number one for a long time. This song was under-rated, yet it was the best. Why?

  • wasnt this song number 1 in New Zealand Top 40 for like 3 months?

  • @Carsman50 5 months

  • @Carsman50 it was number one for 11 weeks straight

  • fucking love this song been listning to it sense it came out

  • Dang Young Sid is hot.

  • my close close friend whom is like a little sister to me whom is from NZ turned me on to this song. I had a friend last year whom was tragically shot an killed 3 months ago this song helps I recommend anyone 1 who has lost a brother or a close friend to senseless acts of violence's.

  • NZ music rock

  • When I was around 5 or 6 I had a pet rat called Dollar. Me and him were best mates. 3 Years later,he passed away. When that happened, my heart broke like glass. Now I allways listen to this song wishing him to have a better life. If you guys could please just like this for me and make it top com, I would with for him to see this.

  • As a proud Kiwi, I find it hard to admit that some people are right regarding our culture. The culture I grew up with is being slowly replaced by the American "Gangsta" mentality. The truth is, WE are doing it to ourselves.... WE make our lives this way.... and WE have the power to change it. Black, Brown, White, Yellow, Purple, Orange or Blue... doesn't matter what colour you give it... we ALL suffer with a curse of our own making.

  • New Zealand....... All of our songs are underated. They should be WORLDWidE known and im only 11 years old and i know that!!

  • please don't argue guys. who ever started the argument please apologies, this song was suppose to send a meaning, not to argue ?

  • Songs mean but then when she comes on its like listing a lot of 5 year olds

  • I hate kiwi girls ( dirty ) I hate kiwi girls ( dirty ) I hate kiwi girls ( dirty )

    I hate kiwi girls ( dirty ) I hate kiwi girls ( dirty ) I hate kiwi girls ( dirty )

  • @majedty FU, you obviously don't know many kiwi girls.. jesus where the hell do you live anyways???

  • @majedty Fuck off faggot, go brag about your fucking mom and go somewhere else you fucking dead kangaroo cunt.

  • Gin wigmore is EXTREMLY talented but shes only really popular in new zealand and a bit in aussie it would be great for her to be world wide cause shes an unbelievibley good singer

  • This song is undrerated

  • They should sing the chorus more, but still, songs mad as

  • @ftw3958 if any of you illiterate bastards actually read my original comment, you may have noticed that i wasnt putting new zealand down, i think its sad that you have the same problems the we have here in the states, sorry i didnt make that obvious enough for you, my bad(<another suck ass american expression) so enough with the bullshit dog piling and get on with your lives, i have- and btw youre blocked, reply if you want, again, i wont see it

  • @Tufftahoe every country has problems man, your not from NZ so you wouldn't understand we don't go onto 50cent videos and call him a fake ass cunt with no talent ( as he doesn't ), we have some mean talent in our country and life is a struggle for alot of kiwis thats all, no disrepect we are both great countries..p.s. been to NY and CALI and loved it will be back.

  • @86nugget19 I'm glad someone on here kinda got what i was saying, its sad that other countries, especially one as beautiful as NZ have the same kind of bullshit problems that the US has, wanna be gangstas, drugs, poverty obviously from a welfare type society, its just sad. It caught me off guard because in my head I had a whole different idea of what NZ was like, btw, i dont like 50cent or really any other rapper- i came to this video because of Gin- i think she's pretty bad ass

  • @Tufftahoe So true bro :D

  • @Tufftahoe FUCK i really hate people like you who go onto videos and talk shit just because your over the internet and people will never know who you are. i bet if you meet any of these people who you are talking to u would shut your damn mouth. know your place cunt, your not above everyone else

  • @Tufftahoe Come to NZ, talk shit to our culture and our boys and then you'll understand the NZ concept, we fucking stand together against little American cunts who think they're high and mighty hiding behind your big fucking leaders. don't talk shit about our fucking culture, if you knew what you were fucking with im sure you wouldn't run your mouth

  • @XTheProduction oh yeah, little gamer boy, youre big and bad hiding behind your game controller. just crawl back into mommies basement and live out the rest of your sad existence, btw my ORIGINAL comment that you probably never read was that i thought it was sad that a country that i respected was just as screwed up as the USA so your wanna be thug dumb ass comments are now null and void. go talk your dumb shit to someone who cares

  • 00.40 - Here skip to 00.40, I saved 40 seconds of your life, Peace,

  • that woman sings terrible

  • @LAGOZY Are you kidding me? Gin is amazing.

  • Im a latino living in london( prob the only one) and were i live, u hear of kids carrying mac 11s and beretta 9mms. The apartments are pretty run down and shitty. Also crack and heroine are big. I was wondering, is auckland as bad is this? Like ye have guns? jus wondering.

  • @Esewithattitiude nah bro im from auckland, theres south auckland, but thatts not as bad as wat u r talkin abowt

  • @FIELDROX

    south aux <3

  • @Esewithattitiude

Lol nah ...we cant afforf it

  • @faithroxpeoplessox wat do you mean by cant afford? :S like u cant afford guns?? cuz guns here are black market bought and quite cheap

  • @Esewithattitiude it’s hard to explain.. no it is not as bad as other large cities, like london.. its just, being from New Zealand ,it’s hard to climb out of poverty, there isn’t much opportunity. there is A LOT of domestic abuse though, and its an ignored problem.. that i think is probably the greatest evil because that it shapes people negatively and really hurts society. Drug use is very high too, a lot more people do both soft and hard drugs regularly compared other western countries.

  • @victorfir ya i suppose london is a bit simaler. LIke in hackney, the borough i live in 7 out of eight black males grow up without a father. They drop out of school at a young age. when they reach theyre early manhood they have two options. stack shelves at supermarket for minimum age or deal drugs. most of time people pick drugs cuz its quiker. Watch the movie "bullet boy" explains alot about life in hackney.

  • R.I.P to my little brother who died in his sleep he was to young ( i'm adopted) so i never meet him i have seen my other family but never my brother i have a brother in ym family now who is amazing and unlike alot of other siblinngs i love my brother and we get along ( you are not replaced) <3 <3

  • i know how they feel one of my brothers died

  • Im American and I get the part about the tagging. Im cheating though...My sister has lived in Christchurch for the past 4 years.

  • R.I.P to my birth brother ( im adopted) this year he would be 8. I rekon he would have had a amazing peronalitly and sporty your allways in my heart luie.

  • I've lived in Europe and the US, and I currently live in Ellerslie, which I know is not the South Auckland, but I can say that if compared to most 2 million people towns in both parts of the world, Auckland will come out as one of the safest. I think applying this song to more than this specific tag death is taking things out of proportion, something very common in NZ. NZers, like Scandinavians, have proven to be very good at underrating their country.

  • this song gets to me so much such a great dedication !!!

  • what i wasnt saying nz has shit loads of tagging if thats what you meant what i mean is there is actually a story behind the kid tagging

  • @reeceandhisneice err no that isn't what I meant. It depends on what you mean by "get". That it came from a specific story? Yeah probz not, I hadn't even heard of that boy (or it didn't register in my long term memory) It doesn't matter - you still "get" that the song is about real stuff that really goes on that shouldn't

@ Andre8306 So what you are saying is the poem "My Dreams are of a Field Afar" has no application to anyone other than the survivors of the first world war?

  • @reeceandhisneice Was that the one that was on the news a year or 2 ago? About that white guy who chased those 2 kids down the road and stabbed them with a knife for tagging his property and his excuse was "It was self-defense".

  • great song.respect from ireland

  • THIS IS BY FAR ONE OF MY MOST FAV SONGS TOO COME OUT OF NZ JUST BECAUSE WHAT THEY ARE SAYING IS REAL DEEP AS WELL AND EVEN THO I LIVE IN EAST AUCKLAND NOW,OTARA IS ALWAYS GONNA BE MY HOMETOWN.

  • This is the BEST SONG ever in nz.:) :):)

  • sorry about ur bro missyandsox1

  • @hampster5789 thanks :) was a good guy just got with the wrong crowd i guess

  • I grew up in South auckland so i know about it all man

  • People always Say bad stuff about New Zealand. Im bred and born New Zealander. Hardly anyone thats not from these places i New Zealand knows whats it like

  • why does this song have so little views??

  • Brothers don't stay forever

  • Why the hell do theyhave to show manewera

Cant they show Tauranga or someting like that

  • @kopkopkopkopkopkop6 Its manurewa you fucking retard - and these guys are being smart enough to expose a part of nz we would rather cover up with flashy views of rich white folks and their tauranga dream barbie mansion dreams

  • i would have stabbed that lil nigger if he was tagging my fence too

  • @KingSatyr cool story bro

  • Well, Auckland isn't as bad as Oakland. How many people die in Auckland a day? Compared to 3 people dying in Oakland every day, or week? Well, the gangs there are pretty damn mean.

  • meke;i love this song;has so much meaning to it <33333

  • Man, so many familiar places in this. That funeral home is about 500m down the road from my parents.

This video needs way more love.

  • Its weird. In England, where I'm from, New Zealand is generally regarded as a more or less idyllic part of the world; what you get when you take England and strip it of its post-imperialistic nature and pessimistic outlook, and combine it with an amazingly beautiful landscape.

I guess, as with most things, things aren't as simple as they are made out to be. A whole new view of New Zealand. I accidentally stumbled across this, and I'm glad I did. Amazing song.

  • @kibblesworth Its a problem we like to hide, and keep out of sight. Its probably New Zealands biggest problem. But its not massive, only in some areas like South Auckland.

  • @kibblesworth

Haha yeah nowhere's perfect. This is one of those tragic and poignant stories, which some great artists have highlighted. New Zealand society has a whole bunch of challenges for people from those that really struggle to those that have it easy. Much the same as in England. I've spent 6 years out of 30 in England, and there is a lot of similarities. Think council estates, classism and all the ill tension that comes with it etc, it's the same down under.

  • these 3 guys r the men

  • aussie equivalent BLISS AND ESO MO FO

  • ;( sad song but its really good

  • dhahaha MANGERE @preludefan :L havent u herd young sids song hood like me? :)P

  • man thats funny talking tuff and your sign in is preludefan lol

  • is that clyde road dairy where those guys are sparing?

  • ok you kids need to grow up stop talking a whole lot of shit

  • @PROSpa15 yeah right dumbass, where did you learn that? from chris brown? handle the truth that your just a scumbag who has all the opportunities in the world, yet you choose to be a looser gangster wannabe in manurewa or some shit hole like that- you think your hard but everyone is just laughing at you, why dont you quit whilst your ahead.

  • That aint no hood.............. thats just home for most of us!

  • @PROSpa15 take your skirt off you girl- you know its all true, so suck it scum.

  • manukau

  • was this filmed in Christchurch ? some places seem familiar ... :-)

  • @andina18 nope, in different parts of otara. 1st parts with the kids- just down the road from where sid used to live.

  • @andina18 lol not christchurch but i thing u were thinking of aranui area

  • interesting how they make out whites to be the drug dealers and crooks, yet they make the actual inhabitants of the places they are filming out to be totaly innocent and victims-i know an electrician in manukau, who has the daunting task of constantly fixing lights and other electrical equipment in the manukau area because the locals do nothing but vandalise the facilities given to them- take some responsibility you scumbags or should we shut it all down so you have nothing in your communities?

  • i've never seen that girl in my life why is she standing down the end of my street lol

  • is this as bad as they say? im from london and ders a big problem with guns, nives and crack in alot of the aprtment states in the east end and south london. most of them are young jamaicans, would it be as bad as london? also london has a 9m population. jus wondering, replies appreciated.

  • @Esewithattitiude lol to be honest you'd have to experience it for yourself

  • @Esewithattitiude the entire british empire self-distructed through its own politically correct garbage any it has nothing else to blame but itself-a few years ago the uk was literaly giving away passports to anyone and they now wonder why they have problems?

nz is going the same way and not learning from uks mistakes, there are some very nasty things going on in parts of the country, yet others are paradise, you need to travel here to understand it, nz is not like the rest of the world.

  • @preludefan ya it started in the 80s when they let jamacians in for work. unfortunately, too many came in and so started the jamacian mafia in london( the yardies) but i mean, im an imagrant( from el salvador) and when walking down sum streets in my own neighbourhood, i feel insecure cuz the kids have knifes and sumtimes guns. i mean walking down a street in somewere like otara, would it be as dangerous?

  • @preludefan ya it started in the 80s when they let jamacians in for work. unfortunately, too many came in and so started the jamacian mafia in london( the yardies) but i mean, im an imagrant( from el salvador) and when walking down sum streets in my own neighbourhood, i feel insecure cuz the kids have knifes and sumtimes guns. i mean walking down a street in somewere like otara, would it be as dangerous?

  • @Esewithattitiude to a lesser degree, yes, the "shithead" samoans/tongans dont know how to think, whilst a jamican in england will rob you for money, one of the polys, esp drunk or on meth, will just attack you for nothing if they are in groups, its uncommon for them to carry knives, but they will attack people with baseball bats and metal bars , yet they are total cowards on their own, yet when you meet a good one, (although rare), they are the extreme opposite-

  • @preludefan ya its kinda simaler with kids here. Part from they think theyre the big man behind a gun. without it, theyre scrwed. Watch the movies BULLET BOY(which is set in east london) and GUNRUSH(south london estate). they explain alot. You can watch them on utube

  • R.I.P to my brother who lost his life 2 years ago today, taken to soon and to all the others brothers that have left us you remain in our hearts

  • @missyandsox1 God Bless <3

  • @amymaree101 thankyu <3 :)

  • New Zealand !!!!

  • Love the way Gin works it with the boys awesome meld

  • Appreciate music for what it is a form of expression to share one's story. Comparing who's story or neighbourhood is worse off isn't what it should be about but applaud those who bring the not so nice stories into the open with the hope that we can make a change.

There is no doubt that NZ is a great place and like the song says its not about glamourising poverty but acknowledging life as it is and that we can rise above it all.

  • The hoods only scum because they are lazy porch monkeys.

It's just a family downward spiral cycle.

NZ is a great place pity it's littered with the "Thug Life" trash that think living in poverty and thieving is a good thing.

  • @MrLightblack i agree, the tagger got stabbed by someone at the end of his ropes and sick of calling police, who do nothing but take the dirty scum vandal back to his dirty scum parents who should have never been parents in the first place, it also should be noted that south auckland only became a shit place when shit people started moving there, otara, mangere, otahuhu and the like were nice places once upon a time.

  • i bet only the new zealanders get the part when the kid is tagging

  • @reeceandhisneice You don't know anything bro , he was tagging rip for the guy that was tagging and some guy killed him for it , thats like the whole thing in this song

  • @reeceandhisneice

Or anyone who seen the trailer for this song..

  • @natscann lol yea or that

  • @reeceandhisneice

I SINCERELY doubt that, seeing as when I was in Vancouver, Canada last year they had a LOT more tagging than we see around in NZ.

  • @charliedelta6 A guy killed a kid because he was tagging on his fence, so yeah you don't get it.

  • @DominatorNZ

    Google: "police-believe-tagging-dispute-led-to-anaheim-boy’s-death"

and google: "Tagging crews, graffiti clean-up and deaths" and look for a link to inside social

Don't be arrogant. I do get it. I had no knowledge of that death and you know what? It didn't prevent me from 'getting' the song. People from all over the world will know of similar stories to the tagging death. The comment "Only NZrs get that part" is ludicrous.

  • @reeceandhisneice stfu cunt

  • @manurewa001 No, I didn't realise. I'm sorry, I must've missed that in the lyrics, but the images struck me. I should listen better. I found it very sad. I'm a writer and have written about this area as I used to live there, Clendon Park in particular. I'm in Singapore now, but can't wait to be back in Auckland. Love NZ. It's where my heart is.

  • the reason why this song is obout otara is because of what happend there. I dont get why people are saying "there are way more places that are worst than this place"

because that isnt something you should say. U are dissing all of those places.(Dont say that i dont like otara because it is like a second home to me)

  • All the haters need to gapp it let SOUTH AUCKLAND SHINE yous just cant belive the amount of talent thats coming out of the hood

  • The Maori are awesome

  • this song is as deep as it gets! everyday theres a bad comp bout who's worse. I'm from Whanganui nd evn then no matter where you liv in th world evry1 is affectd. Smashproof just opened us up thru th way thy knw we wud listen...thru music!

  • Poland Regards all New Zeland

  • cool song

  • Hats off to the creators of this video. This is the 1st time I watch an NZ production video and it makes totally sense! With the people arguing/fighting and Smashproof "driving" in the car passing by the streets and Gin's (I love her!) part. Unlike most US videos that just have scantily clad girls dancing which doesn't even link back to the song. I don't mind watching this again and again.:)

  • Is any of this filmed in Manurewa, or is it just Otara and that Manukau canoe building?

  • and otahuhu

  • I dont understand how a song like this can have 300,000 views, while 'artists' like beiber can get millions. I truly DO NOT UNDERSTAND???

  • @fallingwatersnz I stayed in NZ for 8 months last year, the gym I trained at played Kiwi chart music all the time and over time it switched me on to some really awesome music across several genres that is completely under represented globally, its a shame.

  • Wheres this filmed??

  • @AwesomeCrazyEgg Looks like Otara to me, and there is also the big canoe-like building (forgot the name) down the road from Rainbows End, just before you hit Manurewa.

  • @MaritaBehindtheHood kkz, idk any of those places, LOLZ, Im in Whakatane, Sweet place, Anyone kno y ppl bad mouth Routoki or watever?

  • this song really brings back memories

  • This reminds me of my book "Behind the Hood" (on website: Authonomy). Although my book is based on Clendon (Manurewa), South Auckland is pretty much the same. People outside of NZ are shocked by my story. They think NZ is all Lord of the Rings. I put a link to this song on the website forum to direct people to it. Hope you get some thumbsups as it's a cool song. P.S. That grafitti kid reminds me of the Manurewa boy who died. Sad.
