Say Birdy.. might be a good idea if you get them rotors in for an x ray.. lotsa stress there mate..
This looks like a Benson with a stabiliser.. and Ali blades i assume.. cant imagine what sorta tricks you would get up to with some softer Carbon blades.. good on ya mate..
Ha Ha. True Aussie. Wether mowing the yard, using an axe, walking in the scrub or flying a gyro the only suitable foot wear is a pair of black double plugger thongs. Good on ya mate.
of all of the videos on youtube with gyros this one and part one are probably the best two if a person has a mind to learn abit about flying this machine. The sounds of the gyro and movements of the pedal in concert can start a fan in the right direction.
Thankyou for useing the sound of the machine. It helps the realism of the video, much better than the usual music[ or some such noise] on many video's,
Loved your video and your flying abilities Birdy!! I'm going to get better acquainted with my Sportcopter Lightning and hope to be as good as you someday! Keep the videos coming.
This guy obviously is experienced and knows his machine well. I almost got a seat'a'the'pants feeling that I was there. "Down under" looks quite a bit like Arizona.
There are now parachoutes on airplanes (small ones). There has to be a way to engineer a parachoute for gyrocopters. True they may not need them, but there's nothing wrong with being extra safe. Just figuring out where one could go is the issue. On the bottom or towards the back? But if you landed you'd land upside down or on the nose (of the shoot was on the back).
'Reminds me of the "Road Warrior". Those flip-flops are hardcore. This is a perfect representation of when man and machine become one. Excellent flying! Amazing talent.
Have you seen the enclosed 2 place machines? The new Sport Copter is pretty sweet lookng. also the Magni, ELA, and other european models are very nice looking with fairings.
Amazing, unbelivable how the pilot control this thing. I fly trikes and my brother gyrocopters, he is an instructor in Sao Paulo Brazil. Man, you are the best gyro pilot I ever seen. God bless you. You gonna go far.
Definitly more risky than a ppc. Good job... I really enjoyed that flight. As long as Respect and Fear maintain an equal balance, RISK is where the fun is found. Keep in touch and... Fly Smart...

@extere I'm not sure what the gyro started out as. It has been modified by the owner. A lot of it is custom built for his use.

i think feral is a name of gyrocopter.
hybirdisdf 3 years ago
That's the name Birdy has named it. Not sure what make it started out as. It's an Australian make.

but im sure its to do that! g
GoJakob 3 years ago
Just for clarification, what do you mean when you say "feral", does the pilot have a liscence? (do you need one in Australia for a bird that small?)
I know in the outback there are plenty of bush pilots who don't have liscences, is that the case here?
leapoffaith20 4 years ago
Birdy calls his gyro "Feral". I assume it's because it's wild and untamed.

And function it DOES!!!! Is this in west Texas?
jorkjica 4 years ago
No, in Texas the flip flops have heels on them to dig in the dirt and stop the gyro if the brakes fail on roll out. I think this is in Oz.

Wow....if your grammar were only half as good as your flying ability you might have really gone somewhere in life !

This gyro is a working gyro. Birdy herds cattle with it in the Australian outback. Looks aren't important.
