STORY: The old soviet tank was exhibited on a national holiday. There were also anti-government protests on that day. Some old guy from the protestors was able to start the exhibited tank it with some car batteries and stole it from the exhibition.

It was in 2006 but it looks like a war zone. There is an interview whit the driver guy somewhere, he is about 70 yrs old.

Unfortunately, the celebrations did not go very well and some people protesting (instead of celebrating) on the streets stole the tank and drove for a few hundred meters before it ran out of gas.

I read about this in Nick Thorpe's book '89 - The Unfinished Revolution'... People were protesting against the newly elected Socalist government who lied and apologised afterwards about the Hungarian economy to get into office. The tank was on display to cellebrate the 1956 Hungarian uprising, and a man managed to start it up then ram it into the riot police and their water-cannons. The police were bedaffled, however they were acting inhumane...

Some wiseguy put a makeshift engine in it, and they wanted to use it to run into the police, who was out there to stop the "riot". But the tank stopped a few meters before the police officers, because the smaller engine was not strong enough keep up with it weight.

1) The people, or demonstrators, rallied and assaulted a museum and managed to start up this unarmed t-34 and drive it out to the street to protest. It went for about 100meters cuz low on fuels.

2) If you know Soviet tank or any weapons design for that matter, the soviet top and most important slogan is: Simple and Effective. The T-34 basically only had a stick for driving inside.

A tape leaked about Hungarian prime minister Gyurcsany that he lied day and night just to win the election in 2006. There was an uprising and on the 23rd of october the 50th anniversry of 1956 revolution against Soviet suppression the protesters stole a display tank to fight the police which used rubber bullets and caused serious injuries to people one man was blinded.

Since than it was proved that police brutality was unfounded and protesters won all the court cases and got compensation.
