Personally I dont wish to use them at all as I find it ruins the feel of the time and style! :)

No, it doesn't. The longer the hair is (to certain point) the easier Pomp is to do. The minimun lenght, in my opinion, is so that hair strecthes under your eyes.

Heavy is like fucking candle wax. So unless you feel like putting candle wax in your hair, I say go with medium. I'm using currently Voodoo Brew.

I go to a pompadour barber. Well, I've got two buddies that cut hair. So they know what I want. But you've got the right idea on how to cut it.

My only advise is that you just gotta play around with it. different pomps look good on different people.

If you want a psycho look, you gotta go for almost buzzed sides and a straight pomp. But if you want a more classic rockabilly look, your sides gotta be longer, you gotta have a parted pomp and you gotta have a duck tail.

Yes, Layrite washes right out. Murray's is a petroleum based pomade so it stays in your hair for around 5 days. But it does eventually wash out.
