I'm realizing only now it was just a Canadian hit (according to Wikipedia). I was 15, 16 when it came out, and though my musical tastes will forever remain in the 70s, I'm starting to have fond memories of the odd 80s song, and assumed at the time it was a hit in the Us. But now realizing it wasn't. But I swore I was listening to a Casey Casem top 40 1984 rerun the other week (which I actually remember working in my father's corner store, weird ) So was it in America?
#1 Some boys were so abused when they were young that they would mentally create another "person" to deal with the horror that they live through on a daily basis. Sometimes their feelings turn off and they feel nothing.
Females do this also and I have when I reach my "breaking point." Then I live like I am on automatic pilot. I am not aware of what I am doing at times. I lose blocks of time. So I can understand why these males sometimes act like they do. It is wrong but it happens.
You should change some of the tags on this if you can.... insert Tag "Danced into my Heart"; This is old and I swear I haven't heard it since the 80's... and I never knew who the artists were.
#2 continued that they become numb and they need physical pain to remind themselves that they are truly alive. That seems to be the only feeling that they have. They walk among us like living "Zombies." Often, they become killers,
I no longer date as I pick the "bad guy every time...like I have inner radar tuned to his frequency. It is hard to explain to someone who was not raised in an abusive relationship and who thinks that we are all "crazy" for staying.
I bought the album of this band due to the fact that I was a big Rush freak when I found out that Geddy Lee produced it and I said to myself that it was worth buying it etc.I love this song nonetheless!
I can still remember watching video hits the day Samantha Taylor broadcast her last show. She picked this video as her favourite, and the last one she wanted to play. It made such an impression on me that over twenty years later I searched it out on you tube having only seen it that one time. Its really a great great song.
if this video was not made in the 80s,i would have sworn that the dancer was an old girlfriend.uncanny! great cdn. song and a great video.thanks for posting it.
I just noticed there are clear shots of the percussion instruments. Now i know what to ask for if someone tries it. Could an electric drum machine do it?
Thanks for posting Kurdtss. This and Passion of Love may have been their only hits but they are really great. I still Remember buying the cassette in 83!
This song is so real for me and dont laugh but i went to this stripclub often and befriended one of the strippers,, her name was Melody belive it or not and she eventually asked me for my phone number and took her out a couple times.. she had a bright future if only she quit dancing.... we drifted apart and i often wonder what had become of her? I just wonder why she was attracted to the man who beat her instead of a guy like me who would treat her right! Kinda makes me sad! oh well it was 2006.
A great representation of Canadian new wave...heck, new wave in general....very stylish, evocative. Even now it makes your mind drift to a certain time and place...
Toronto in the 80's. We really made the scene. I remember the Boys Brigade opening for Rough Trade at a club on Jarvis or Sherbourne. A different time . . .
My opion of the lead singer is that he sounds like Bruce Cockburn and David Bowie. that percussion set sounds awsome, its not regular drums. I couldn't spell melody right so I added lyrics and searched the got Boys Brigade and added video and here I am finding exactly what I wanted.
Malcolm Burn was the songwriter, I believe, when he was with this band. He's had a long career afterwards as a record producer. I always thought though the name for the band didn't do them any justice. In fact, it might have prevented them from becoming really big.
I was in college when this song came out. Loved it at every pub night!
Oh melody was it the night life that made you stray, or was it my lack of my interest in you stripping while dating me, Oh melody when you asked me for my phone number and we went on a date thats when time stood still! But i guess you strayed from me! Oh melody i was so infatuated with your way of life. We were never meant to be! I Cry I Cry!...
I dated a stipper named melody! and she was constanty beaten up by her boyfriend! This was about a year and a half ago!! Pretty Uncanny! She wasnt that interested in me after she found out i was a decent person! She preffered the bad elements!
Ahh i mispelled Stripper! I called her a stipper. Thanx for pointing that out for me! I know i know how to say the word but she never noticed me spelling it, so i guess i was safe with that one. HA HA Cheers mate!
one of my fave canadian vids from s/s 1984. i would have loved to have been living in toronto and old enough to appreciate the live music scene. were they from toronto?
great song! The lead singer Malcolm Burn is a producer now and has worked with the likes of Bob Dylan, Tracy Chapman, and Patti Smith. He also won a grammy for Emmylou Harris's "red dirt girl" album. Great band!
Since the first time I heard it when it debuted in '83, Melody has remained one of my favourite songs. What I didn't know is that Boys Brigade are Canadian!
NOT ONLY ARE THEY canadian BUT THEIR FIRST ALBUM WAS PRODUCED BY GEDDY LEE OF RUSH. FOR A LITTLE MORE INFO JUST DO A SEARCH FOR BOYS BRIGADE ON (ELIMINATING THE SPACES SO THAT IT DOESN'T GET CONSIDERED A WEBSITE BECAUSE WEBSITE LINKS CANNOT BE POSTED) CANOE. CA'S JAM (THEIR SHOWBIZ SEARCH ENGINE).THERE'S NOT MUCH INFO BUT IT WILL HELP A BIT.
This music brings back good memories of me listening to Chez 106, from Ottawa, on my Realistic ghetto blaster from Radio Shack. When that station was a good one, it would play anything the djs thought was good: Led Zeppelin, The Spoons, David Bowie, Michael Jackson...I miss that kind of radio.
I spent, literally, the better part of a decade hunting for this song/video. No one seemed to know what I was talking about. Thanks for posting it.
