The thing that you guys don't see is that this isn't a stereotype. Koreans have NEVER been known for this, there is no substance behind it. Korean tradition and society is based completely on manners, politeness, respect and formality. Koreans would be horrified at this type of behaviour let alone allow it. The history behind “Im Young Soo” is terribly wrong.
When Im Young Soo was in WWII, South Korea was attacked by Japan and taken over. Japanese murdered, mauled, starved, experimented and such on the Korean people. ((some)) Present day Koreans still have this great hatred and dislike of Japan.

It's just an anime! Yes, it shows the stereotypes of different countries, but it is still fictional. There's a lot more offensive characters in the show, but no one is complaining about them. Like, Italians being cowards, Americans as arrogant gluttons, French being absolute pervs, even Japanese being easily influenced by others. Please, just keep an open mind. Remember, it is still fictional and is loved by fans all around the world. No one is making fun of anyone in this show.

It's not the anime itself that caused such a confrontation but the fact they used it so to portrait the already highly disputed issue of the Liancourt Rocks(Dokdo) between the two countries. The anime shows South Korea grabbing the breasts of Japan and claiming "Whatever is yours is mine" symbolizing the rocks. This issue was already a problem but thanks to these ignorant cartoonists, tensions will escalate.

Anyway, France gave me a bad impression on French people when I saw hetalia (as a pedo and a pervert ) but I know French people that arent like that. I think China is known as 'big brother' because he is the oldest ( 4000 years old, apparently...) and it is also the biggest country in Asia.
It wouldn't be a surprise if the Italian government somehow notices this and decides to pull Hetalia from airing on its televisions. (Though I doubt tha would ever happen.) Then again, Japan and S. Korea had some problems in the past so I can't blame them. Either way, Korea seemed to be more insulted than the others, IMO.

I'm new to Hetalia, and I read the comics first so I was disappointed when Korea didn't appear in the anime since he was one of my favorites. But this is a show that made fun of every nation in it. TBH, the better portrayal of Korea is a fanatic (which is done somewhat well in the anime) with less groping and more angry proclamation (e.g. Dokdo/Takeshima issue, which IMO shouldn't be there), as well as less "I invented everything" because Koreans accept that they did not invent everything FFS. And it should not be too Japanocentric, if it indeed wants to make fun of all countries, as you've said.

I'm half Korean and I love Hetalia. I think that the Koreans are overreacting a bit. Hetalia touches on a whole bunch of touchy historical topics and other countries aren't complaining. Look at the way France is portrayed! (Pervert) Or Italy (the loser). I think it's hilarious and very clever and Korea shouldn't freak out about it. It's not a governmental attack or anything

The history behind “Im Young Soo” is terribly wrong.
When Im Young Soo was in WWII, South Korea was attacked by Japan and taken over. Japanese murdered, mauled, starved, experimented and such on the Korean people. ((some)) Present day Koreans still have this great hatred and dislike of Japan.

Koreans are very sensitive about historical issues with Japan and many people hate her for what she did to them during the occupation and for making only superfical apologizes. So how a Japanese cartoon portrayed Korea in an offensive (to them) way has made them angry and they can't take this just as a joke. This is not my opinion but how most of Koreans feel.

Personally, I thought the S. Korea character was rather fun. A cheerful and lively person, and how is that a bad thing?
Considering the dub actively mentions S. Italy bringing Germany 'something', and the response being "what is it, another Jew?" you'd think the Jewish people would be raging and boycotting this as well.
I haven't heard of this happening at all. I even know many Jewish fans of the dub. If you don't like it, don't watch it. It isn't hard.

It's just an anime! Yes, it shows the stereotypes of different countries, but it is still fictional. There's a lot more offensive characters in the show, but no one is complaining about them. Like, Italians being cowards, Americans as arrogant gluttons, French being absolute pervs, even Japanese being easily influenced by others. Please, just keep an open mind. Laughing at the bunch of brainless weeabos commenting this video... It's not the anime itself that caused such a confrontation but the fact they used it so to portrait the already highly disputed issue of the Liancourt Rocks(Dokdo) between the two countries. The anime shows South Korea grabbing the breasts of Japan and claiming "Whatever is yours is mine" symbolizing the rocks. This issue was already a problem but thanks to these ignorant cartoonists, tensions will escalate.

It wouldn't be a surprise if the Italian government somehow notices this and decides to pull Hetalia from airing on its televisions. (Though I doubt tha would ever happen.) Then again, Japan and S. Korea had some problems in the past so I can't blame them. Either way, Korea seemed to be more insulted than the others, IMO.

I'm new to Hetalia, and I read the comics first so I was disappointed when Korea didn't appear in the anime since he was one of my favorites. But this is a show that made fun of every nation in it. It's not like they wanted to make fun of only Koreans. Sure, some things were a bit too mean but it wasn't that bad. I'm American, German, and Jewish and I wasn't that offended by America or Germany's personality. But I guess that's just a fan's opinion... Poor S.Korea D;

TBH, the better portrayal of Korea is a fanatic (which is done somewhat well in the anime) with less groping and more angry proclamation (e.g. Dokdo/Takeshima issue, which IMO shouldn't be there), as well as less "I invented everything" because Koreans accept that they did not invent everything FFS. And it should not be too Japanocentric, if it indeed wants to make fun of all countries, as you've said.

OMG im korean I DON'T CARE! I WANTED HIM IN THE ANIME! The italians didn't care and the anime is named " USELESS ITALY!" They can handle it more than the koreans!

As much as I would have loved to see South Korea in the anime I can't blame them for acting like this, South Korea didn't have the best relationship with Japan and nationality plays a huge role in this. Hasn't anyone notice that Japan is not pick on that much, if Hetalia was made by an Non-Japanese person, most likely Japan would have be more different. YES other nations are pick on but then again some people can take jokes more serious then others.

@shoukri4 His portrayal in the anime annoys me :/ I believe Japan was criticized in the original comics (they hinted that Japan betrayed China) but it was cut.

Hetalia makes fun of ALL nationalities not just Korea.
America is a hamburger obsessed,ego maniac, Italy is a sissy and don't get me started on France. You don't see any of the other countries governments making a big deal out of this.

@TheBookKeeper203 Although to be frankly respectful, they do it to Korea the most. America and the like have their stereotypes quite obvious worldwide. The portrayal of Italy was damn bullshit, that is true, but people outside Japan don't really see Korea in the character's stereotypes, which is a problem since in Hetalia Korea is reduced to being a groping sucker who's apparently unoriginal ("Education was my idea!") copycats of the supposedly superior neighbors. It's just not insensitive.
