  • shouldn't knock jenny...he actually played with the rips at the beginning

  • They are some great musicans. Jeff Kashiwa is one bad ass horn ewi or anything else player.

  • No... this is too much... I mean.... this is the only group in history that has this effect on me... can't stop listening to this music.... they're simply too good..... and I can't find words to express how much I love this music.... and the new album is so great as well.....

  • 5 people are dyslexic and read "dis-I-Like"

  • Why did I have to be born on '91 and be a year old when this concert happened!? Missed what seems to be the best experience I'd have =S

  • first time listener....and wow is this impressive...very talented musicians and incredible musicianship

  • Sometimes I blast the Rippingtons and watch the people who walk down the street stare in contempt, but you know what? IT"S THE FUCKING RIPPINGTONS! I DON"T CARE WHAT THEY SAY RIPPINGTONS 4 LIFE, I AM DOWN TIL I DIE!This is what musical perfection sounds like, and Kenny G has no right to shittalk them whatsoever, fuck kenny G the rippingtons are 100 times better.

  • @xnightofragex Preach it my friend!!!!!!! I've been there biggest fan since the first album and have got to meet them 6 times. Kim Stone is a great guy to hang out with.

  • @xnightofragex And when has Kenny G shit-talked them?

  • What's so great about this? It sounds like the music that they play when you ring up a large organisation and get put on hold.

  • @lexo30 Whats wrong with the music you listen to while being put on hold?

  • I heard an accoustic version of this song (I believe it was the second movement) of this song used on The Weather Channel Business Travel Forecast. Brilliant musical group.

  • Kim Stone is rocking that bass!

  • Does anyone know the guitar rig Russ is using? I love that tone!

  • this is soooo Metheny!

  • @ninjastah ...you don't mean pat metheny do you???....say it ain't so!!!....do you even now anything about pat matheny???....probably not....it's sad

  • @guimarq21 I do friend. Big fan of Metheny. It reminds me of metheny cos of its epicness. and that jazz/rock kinda style. check guitar solo at 1:45 and especially the electric flute thing (dont no its correct name) at around 3:33 onwards. Got a slight metheny kinda sound-ish lil bit.

U dnt need to jump down my throat & assume! .Maybe its not 100% similar pat metheny style. But you must understand me now & not have to be like I dont know what im talking about..U lucky I didnt say. Justin Bieber

  • Long live Russ Freeman & The Rippingtons Oh! and can Jeff Kashiwa play Sax.

  • Which one is Russ Freeman?

  • @CaptainCreature -- center stage guitar player blue/purple shirt

  • The bassist is brilliant but is it even humanly possible to play the saxophone like that? 4.23 - 4.28 is mind-blowing!

  • @keep0ffgrass What? 'Mind-blowing'? Have you ever heard anybody else play the sax? This is fairly competent pop-jazz sax playing, no more than that. Sorry to throw water on your enthusiasm, but this is really not all that great.

  • @keep0ffgrass look for michael brecker. was one of the best contemporary sax players ever lived.

  • @fid3ld3ly Thanks! :)

  • I have always loved this song, but, MAN, that is some serious 80's hair!!!!!

  • one of my all time Rip favs!! love to share this song and/or video as an example of the unique jazz/rock sound & feel of this band. too bad people post comments with the f-bomb & other profanity...makes it awkward to share links like this with church friends, parents, grandparents & especially young people/children - the future consumers of this style of sophisticated music. next time you're at a non-pop/rock concert, look around and see how many "under 25's'' are in the audience.

  • Is Kim Stone (bass) not playing with them anymore??? thanks to him i learned about roscoe basses. That solo on Highroller on the Live in LA cd was literally unbelievable ( i really thought it was 2 basses).

  • great song, bad ass bass

  • @DrumCoalitionWithWa Way!!! Actually, albums and live performances are works of art in themselves. Musicians are never sure what will happen in a recording studio. Songs are sometimes changed on the spot, often prompted by the judgment of a good record producer. It's just that with live performances, the song's arrangement evolves over time and improves.

  • This performance of Indian Summer surpasses the album version. Live performance does improve a song immensely!

  • @denkuehner

no way, the album version is better

  • Always loved the Rippingtons and this has got to be my favorite tune of theirs.

  • FUCKING LOVE this song, this band..everything about them. Im 22 and have been listening to them since i was an infant. My father played them constantly. Now i can appreciate such great musicianship. Amazing all around. One of my favorite tunes!

  • DYNO TUNE!!!!!!

  • He tries, but its not easy to look cool when playing that electric flute thing.

  • Ladies and Gentlemen: the music.....

  • some parts are very close to Methenys Have you heard....

  • Thank you Saxocopter, I didn't see your comment till now. Huh, EWI cool.

  • I'll find out and let you know. I'm curious too, what an awesome sound that man gets from it !

I've got an email I'm waiting for that will let us know.

  • What exactly is the that odd looking wind instrument, the equivalent of a synth-board. (I probably just answered my self) just trying to figure out why they used this instead of the keyboards. If anyone can answer this, or what exactly that instrument is called so I can research it, please comment back.

  • It's called an EWI (Electronic Wind Instrument), a windplayer's version of a synthesizer. The instrument's been around since the early 70's but increased in popularity over the past 20 years, and like a synthesizer the player can cue up and play any sound they want. Interestingly, the Kloo horns from the Cantina scene in "Star Wars" were inspired by the EWI!

  • The "Lyricon" was one the first wind-synths, the units were attached to it's own synth unit. Now they have the EWI 400s it has the electronics built into it, so now the player can move freely with a wireless unit

  • Ahhh the Rippingtons. Kickass AND haunting! =)

  • one of my favourite.....

  • the best there is! no question about it..!!!!!!! it,s fuckin' cool

  • The best onThe Rippington!Loveed.Thanks(8

  • This is so fucking epic.

  • COOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL!

    they got an EWI

  • who did i listen to b4 russ freeman???

  • they're no Sepultura.....was this opening up for Dexey's Midnight Runnners..?

  • a bunch of virtuosos playing well crafted compositions with great chemistry in that sweet LA vibe. What a hot band! They are SOOO good!

  • I've seen the Rippingtons several times at the Jacksonville Jazz Festival and got to meet the band backstage. They were all very cool and calm. Russ Freeman's personal roadie is actually a better guitarist than Russ is. LoL

  • The Led Zeppelin of smooth jazz.

  • Russ Freeman is gorgeous, but that mullet has to go. In fact, all the mullets have to go! But, I still love this song. I first hard it on the Weather Channel, years ago.

  • they are so amazing! Jeff kashiwa rocked it xD!!!!!!!!

  • The video brings back memories, but the Ripps are still alive!

In their 20th anniversary video, didn't Dave Koz joke that for their 40th anniversary, they would come out on the stage on their wheelchairs??

    haha XD

  • This is the album that makes me hooked with them. Greatest album that i ever have. Russ freeman really makes the music flow freely.

  • I was waiting for them to start playing, you know, "Indian Summer."

  • I first heard The Rippingtons on The Weather Channel and I've loved them ever since. Great music.

  • @RedRoseOfNY Weather channel eh. sure says a lot lol

  • @RedRoseOfNY I was introduced to their music through The Weather Channel as well. This song was one of them. The first movement of the song was used during the 2-minute local forecast and the second movement (the part beginning about 2:54) was used during the business travel forecast, both in early 1993. Don't think you're alone there. ;)

  • @RedRoseOfNY Same here. I was first exposed to this wonderful band while listening to The Weather Channel local forecasts.

  • wow Jeff Kashiwa rocked the show!

  • MULLETFEST 92! Great song, great band.

  • Big, distinct sound of the best showband on earth!

  • How cool I met russ in the late 80's at the Baked Potato in Cal. and I was hypnotically entranced by him. She loves to watch was the perfect song.I was honorned to meet him

  • What's with all the Mullets?

  • thats how long it takes to learn to play that well.................jc

  • OK Then. I'll start on my Mullet Tomorrow. Thanks for the Tip.

  • hey, if u r listening 2 the rips then u r in the right place,,,mull or no.....j

  • I have this on VCR but it's so cool to have it here on You Tube! I love all kinds of music, anything well played, and these guys are AAA+++ I think they use a click, but hey we've all done it. I don't think that takes anything away from them.

  • Great Band, great song the same vibe as Weekend in Monaco,I love their live performance.

Check also RoryMI on You Tube with their performance of Indian Summer and Weekend in Monaco at Midpoint2007.

Also a great band and the average age of the bandmembers is 18 years

  • This is one of my favorite songs ever, the precutionist Gary Roose is my moms boyfriend, the one in this video, he said that that was one of the funnest things in his life, He got the crowd movin.

  • Sorry Joe, as a long time Rips fan I gotta tell you the percussionist is Steve Reid, who with bandleader Russ Freeman, originally founded the Rippingtons way back when. Your mom's boyfriend may look like Steve but it's not him playing... Check the liner notes on the CD version.

  • Thanks for uploading this vid. I love this band but never had the chance yet to see them live in the UK. Great song from a great album.

  • This is a great band to see "live". Preferably on a beautiful summer night at an outdoor venue in the southwestern USA. It's like comparing a cassette tape to a DVD Audio disk... Check'em out if you can. It's worth it.

  • This is one of my favorite instrumental song of Ripps..i like this song very much!..best flow of rhythm and arrangement Russ freemans guitar pattern are best and jeff kashiwa's interlude in live is awesome using altosax and EWI!!thnx for the posting of this video.

  • Indian Summer is one of the Rips best songs. This is the Rippingtons at their peak - with Russ on guitar and Kashiwa driving most of the songs on sax and wind instruments.

  • Russ Freeman's guitar tech is a better guitar player than he is. LoL

  • ♥ Love the Ripps ♥

  • Greatest smooth Jazz ever

  • Indian Summer is fantastic!! Russ Rocks!

  • coolest band

  • coolest band

  • Kashiwa on EWI!
