there are already over 100 f-22s so i don't think it is going anywhere. they decreased the number from 700 to 183 but i don't think they will get rid of it. there is still the B-2 and it definitely isn't going anywhere anytime soon.
Hey! I found your video because it's the only one featuring the song "Free man". Except for listening to the tune I learned that the famous stealth bomber retired! I didn't even know. Thanks for sharing.
well, they called it the Stealth Fighter - but really it WAS in fact closer to a small bomber or attack aircraft - so really I suppose if they'd have wanted to be truthful, they'd have dubbed it the A-117 nighthawk, rather than F-117, lol
Thanks for the insight. I'm not really interested in aircrafts much but you really know what you're tlaking about. I also went through some comments here so I know a little more now :-)
really, all I know I get from my Dad, who works for Skunkworks, since if I try reading books and manuals, I get lost @_@, so it's not really my own knowledge, I think. but I do love aircraft and aviation, so if i get on that subject, I can't seem to help spouting what I do know XD like with most subjects I'm into.
probably, they are the next-gen I suppose...But I'm still gonna miss this bird - and the classic "stealth button" joke they'd alway pull when it flew at airshows XD...it was really not very assureing seeing how many spectators fell for it! O_o
no they retired this plane because of insanely high maintnence cost and if they kept it they wouldnt be able to make many f-22's but this plane is truely magnificent i only wish i could have seen it fly ever since i was 2 i wanted to fly one but ill never get the chance now
In part, yeah, I bet cost is part of it. And My dad says that it's not so much that the 117is obsolite to the two newcomers, the Raptor and the Lightening II, but rather the fact that the new ones, (mainly the F-35 as a multirole) can do both the 117's jobs PLUS many other roles as well. Though I'm sad too to see the Nighthawk go, I am confident that the next generation can fill it's shoes exceedingly well if given the chance.
ah, the stealth button joke - well the thing is that at a couple of the shows I've been to, that the 117 flew in, the announcer would tell everyone that the plane had a "stealth button" and that when he'd say it was approaching, that it had the button activated - we would look along with the crowd - until the guy said it was "right in front of us" then we'd stop looking cause it was OBVIOUSLY a joke...bad thing? a LOT of people were STILL looking for the plane after the announcer said this. lol
Nah, Hollywood could never do it justice - they usually get everything wrong with any airplane anyways...and it's funny that you mentioned about bombers, since "F"-117 was technically never a "fighter" at all, it was essentially a rouse to confuse our enemies. It was in reality more of an attack, or even moreso a small Bomber - so I guess realistically, it should have been called either the A-117 or even the B-117, LOL - *sigh* whatever it was I'll miss it
F-117 Nighthawk is defineately going to make a return. When America realizes they need stuff like this and the Blackbird back up.

You never know it might come out of retirement, look what happened to the b-52,
jboss628 2 years ago
true, after all, it is in active storage, similar to the F-14, so they haven't completely closed the door on it.
So they retired the B-52 at one time? i never knew that, My dad said he wouldn't be surprised to see that plane turn 100 years old.

I wonder why the Night Hawk didn't recieved much applause and tears during it's retirement.
Even though it demonstrated a leap in technology called "Stealth".
Maybe the USAf should've also made a movie about this great aircraft and used a Hollywood actor~
Cheers for the tribute~~ as they said "Fighter Pilots make Movies. Bomber Pilots make HISTORY~" :)
