thanks for sharing - I bought a $3.50 seal from the hardware store after watching your video, changed it myself and saved us about $100 as we didn't need to call in the plumber - it's all good!
@fluffyfish09 Check that the float valve is cutting off the water before it gets too high. It can be that its not and the water trickles over the top of the mechanism. Check out my other video,
Thanks for this great tip.. i manage to find the washer in my dual flush toilet also.. but the fault was not in the washer , as i found out after put in new one still overflow only when it is really filled up, so checked the stopper part and a metal pin was getting rusty and not stopping the water flow even the tank is full, took that apart clean it and use waterproof lubricant and all good now.. thanks for your video.. ; )
Thank you for that. I had two of these that were leaking and was about to call an expert. Watched your video, a trip to bunnings, and half an hour later the problem was solved. Again thank you. : )
Thanks bluewrenrest you just saved me a weeks wages.... Those plumbers charge an arm and leg for this stuff and you made it possible for me to fix the leak. Thank you. You are a Legend.
I've finally got the flushing mechanism out and found a totally degraded washer ring. Now I just have to buy a new one, replace it and put it all back together.
Thanks your video was way more helpful than the Caroma video. Their flushing mechanism came out without any difficulty. Thanks for you help.
I have been putting up with a leaking toilet outlet valve as I don't have the money to hire a plumber. Like most things in life, once you know how to do it, it's not so difficult ... all you need is someone to show you how its done. So thanks for going to the trouble to show us how, and giving this middle-aged woman the confidence to have a go! I achieved complete success!
Bluewrenrest you are a legend. Based on this I fiddled away with the cistern, replaced 2 washers and (fingers crossed..) repaired a 2 year inconvenience which a week ago became an unusable toilet. Net cost? AUD $3.50.
You can replace the rubber washer in the float valve, but sometimes this does not work. In the long term it can be better to by a replacement float valve unit available at most hardware stores. The Caroma unit is not very good. Also try bending the arm on the float valve unit.
Great video. My toilet constantly drips from the inlet valve not fully shutting off the water and overflowing down the centre of the flush valve. How do you repair it? Or do you need to replace the whole valve?
This video saved me many dollars. i had already bought one washer and still the . thing kept leaking. it was only after watching this vid was i able to have success. many thx
Its great to be of assistance in the world of dunny fixing. Getting responses from my video gives meaning to my life. Without it I feel I would be less of a man.
I'm glad my missus suggested I look on the new-fangled computer thingy - there you go, even us old fogey's can learn a thing or two. A Big thank-you once again for helping a lot of people that you have never even met. (and saving us a lot of money!!)Cheers
Methinks Caroma don't show you how to replace the washer in their video so logical DIYers end up snapping the retaining 'ring' off the end of the tube when they try to unscrew it ..... & Caroma gets to sell you a whole new tube. Sneaky. Many thanks to the maker of this vid - you're a champion.
Soooo glad I found this video! I have just spent 15 minutes wrestling with the damn thing! Had no luck on the Caroma website either. You would think they would have instructions if they recommend replacing every two years. Once I replaced it, however, the toilet was leaking worse than ever. Common problem apparently. I fixed it following info from another site by putting detergent on it. KY Jelly apparently is even better but failing that dish washing liquid works. Hopes this helps others too.
Its so darn stupid! Making a washer so it cant be screwed of, but it has to be ripped off and then neglecting to tell anyone. Interesting that in their video they recommend that it be replaced every 2 years. Imagine the cost of having to call in a plumber every time.
Great video - we couldn't figure out how to take the washer off. But it is so easy. Unfortunately I found your video after I had broken the tube that the washer sits on trying to get the washer off. Hubby is trying to glue it back together now.
Delightfully simply, and thanks for sharing the tip on adjusting the float down. I've adjusted the float down to its lowest setting on many toilets - it is so simple to do and saves a lot of water over time.
Thankyou so much, this saved my water bill and my relationship, we are now getting a full nights sleep. I cant believe how easy it was once I knew how, it took around 2 minutes to do.
I can't thankyou enough for this fantastic video. I've spent hours trying to work out how to replace the washer at the base of the outlet valve never realising that it actually had to be stretched in order to remove and replace. I've changed many of these washers over the years on other styles of outlet valves, but normally these have involved unscrewing a holding nut before the washer could be removed and only a little stretching of the washer. Anyway once again a very big thankyou.

a bit of washing up detergent helps slip it into place.

The job of getting the washer centered in the flush valve is much easier if the rubber washer is lubricated with a water based lubricant.

Thanks for this video, a plumber would have charged me around $200 to do this. I payed $5.

I personally would not buy one again. The amount of water that gets wasted can eventually pay for a better quality one.
