  • @otochari 3 Purple Hearts and survived the first wave landing on Omaha ("Bloody Omaha") Beach as an infantry rifleman.

  • Great Video.Jimmie Stewart is a Legend. The book Jimmy Stewart Bomber Pilot is a good read. Thanks for sharing this wonderful piece of Histeoty.

  • His eyes resemble Hugh Grant's; I guess that's the typical look of British eyes, as Jimmy was of British descent.

  • Jimmy Stewart, thank you so much for sharing your life and times with us. You are one of a kind.

  • It's funny how those how risked the most, gave the most, and were the most HEROIC, are often the most modest.

Those who won't risk anything, and are not heroic, tend to talk the most.

    RIP General Stewart

    (aka George Bailey :-) )

  • @Alvan5 Stewart rarely talked about his wartime experiences and cried on Carson while reading a poem about his recently-passed away dog. *That's* what a real man is like, not that phony paper solider John "I'm in my makeup trailer" Wayne.

  • Jimmy Stewart was a American patriot who also was a actor. Today's spoiled drug addicted self centered lowlifes that inhabit Hollywood today would make this man sick. There are very few actors in today's Hollywood who love this nation and would take up arms to defend her. It is sad that we are losing the greatest generation at a rate of about 2ooo a day. Soon they will all be gone and replaced by the lice infected vermin in the Occupy this and that movement. Bunch of losers,

  • How about the kids that are Vets from Iraq & Afgan like Scott Olsen who got severely wounded by the Oakland Police at an Occupy March in October is he Vermin you Moron ?

These kids are trying to save this country from the corruption in Wash & Wall St.

  • I am humbled.

  • a real american.

  • Mines Field, where he began his flight training is now LAX.

  • he was truly a gift from god...... What a man and a legend...Rest in Peace Jimmy, you are missed......

  • This video is very cool! I have a video on my channel about both of my great great uncles that flew bombers in WWII. Their story is very interesting!

  • I used to drive a big orange truck every Thursday in the Tibenham area (I was the binman. Lol) I always used to think how amazing Jimmy Stewart was to risk everything, to fight for the freedom that we all take for granted. In our little corner of England, a lot of brave people fought against the biggest racists ever, the Nazis. Maximum respect to them all.

  • @RichardElden if in 1971 Jimmy Stewart had a black actor fired from his show, how do you know it was because the actor was black, and not some other reason like not being right for the part, or lesser acting?

In the 1946 film "It's a Wonderful Life," Stewart had had no problem genially interacting with the family's black maid. True, in that Hollywood era subservient roles were the only ones blacks had, but in the scene it is clear that Stewart liked her ("I'm going to miss [her] when I leave").

  • Thank you General Stewart.

  • for the few idiots who have posted on here that Jimmy Stewart was a racist, do a search on youtube for the "Jimmy Stewart Roast" where Lawanda Page "roasts" him and you'll see clearly he is not a racist. I can't believe I even have to defend him on something like that.

  • thanks so much for posting this video. I really am in awe of how a guy like Jimmy Stewart could accomplish so much in his life and still remain a genuinely humble and "regular" guy. after everything I've read about him and heard him say, this is my impression of him...he was a gentleman, someone who loved God, his family, and his country. I'm sure he wasn't perfect, but he certainly was someone to be looked up to. I respect him so much and only wish there were more of his kind today.

  • thank you for giving this view of a pilots experince.

  • Jimmy Stewart looks JUST like my dad's father that I never got to meet.

  • You just have to admire these people. Only a percentage survived. they were doing what they thought was right and for that I salute them. Next time you're in a plane, just imagine what they went through. Flak, German fighter planes with bloody big cannon, all trying to kill you. Nowhere to hide. These men are/were gods amongst us little people.....Thank you.

  • How nostalgic this makes me. My dad was constantly noticed for his resemblance to Mr. Stewart. I have wonderful memories of my dad in this uniform. My dad did not serve in combat, no fault of his. He was an engineer officer. He was a wonderful father to us kids and I will love him forever. How lucky I was to have had him -- if he had fallen as so many others did, I and my brother and sister would have grown up without him.

  • PEOPLE PLEASE PAY NO ATTENTION TO JUAN MACREADY OR PETERFIRTH FAN THEY ARE IDIOTS WHO TROLL AROUND U TUBE SPEWING HATE THEY THRIVE ON YOUR INTERACTION BLOCK THEM I DID ..THEY ARE NOT WORTH YOUR TIME OR ATTENTION

  • @kitkat6026 ok

  • stewart flew 25 missions right?/ if so he was lucky to come back, about one in three or four did. He, Audie Murphy, Eddie Albert, and Louis Hayward, all extremely, no make that extremelyextremely brave fellows.

  • @doctornoooo And Lee marvin and Clark Ga .

  • My friend Lt Col. O'Neale flew with Jimmy Stewart. I met Jimmy Stewart maybe 3 times in my life as a child of maybe 6-10 years old. YES... He was a TRUE gentalman in every sense of the word. I had no idea what a privilage it was to have such a friend as Col. O'Neale. I played tennis with him for maybe 15 years while he worked for NASA. I only have this sentence to say.... "I have been Privlaged to know such men in my life time".... God bless them...

  • Stewart trained men to fly the B-17 but then he flew the B-24 in combat? I didn't know that. I wonder if he ever discussed the differences between the two planes.

  • Wonderful post! Thank you for adding this. Our country could sure use a few more people like Jimmy Stewart in it right now. :)

  • Guys like Jimmy Stewart do not exist any more- He was as huge as George Clooney is now, back then, and still served as a pilot in the war, and stayed in the Air Force even till he retired, and had one of the most successful film careers in Hollywood ever! Just an amazing man, and both my mom and dad loved him as an actor and a Hero of the Military..

  • @MrLovintheblues He was brigadier general when he retired I believe.

  • There was a true Officer and a Gentleman, although he was a well known actor, but served anyway, now that is a HERO!

  • Just an amazing man ... they don't come any better!

  • You wont see actors do things like that today

  • The slight echo in his elderly voice makes him sound almost god like,

  • Jimmy Stewart was a great pilot, actor and American!

  • My Hero, Jimmy Stewart, God Bless Him.

  • pilot before the war..... my other favorite B-24 pilot.....

  • A great American...

  • @JuanMacready Shut up commie.

  • Thank you, this is a side of the great actor I've never seen before.

  • Jimmy Stewart -- a great American.

  • God Bless him yet another reason to love this gentleman. Even though I am 22 I wish I could have met him some time in my life. There will not be anyone like him especially in Hollywood. He is one of the few people in Hollywood that I would like to meet.

  • God bless Jimmy Stewart!

  • Without question, a gentleman.

  • hats off to mr stewart for his service and risking his life for the free world. another great actor charles bronson also was a tail gunner on a b-29 durring the war btw ,and im proud or these men. god rest their souls

  • OUTSTANDING! this man had balls, while we have chicken shits like the Connecticut Attorney general that take school deferment after school deferment, then join a unit that he knows will never see comabt...then LIE HIS ASS OFF about it! Shameful!. General Stewart - there was no one like him

  • I'm Australian and would be proud to salute such a fine soldier and gentleman

    may he rest in peace.

    God Bless .

  • So tell us, Juan, what have you done for your country? By the way, you are a citizen of which nation?

  • Thank you for posting that clip. Today I fly a small aircraft (I suppose I should call it an 'airplane') from that same field 'somewhere in England' where Mr Stewart and his compatriots were based. I never start a flight from there without thinking of the 8th Air Forces sacrifice.

    Bless 'em all.

  • He was a good, decent person. It is too bad actors are not like Jimmy in our time. My husband is in the airforce and he highly respects Jimmy Stewart's service with our country and so do I. :)

  • @JuanMacready Any coward can kick a dead lion ............and thats you boy you proud of yourself ?

  • @JuanMacready Jimmy Stewart is not racist

  • Well, he's not any more.

  • Comment removed

  • @VictoriasRoses i totally agree.

  • Hi Bomberguy. I just wanted to say thank you for posting the footage of the steam powered aeroplane of the Besler's. Also for the footage of James Stewart. I have been an admirer of James for some years. He personified an example of a special human being.

The steam powered aeroplane was fascinating and has given me a topic to read more about. Thanks again. Best wishes from PSF.

  • great man, alot of guts to fight to get himself on the front line, considering he fought to get away from training pilots. Though i can imagine the propaganda value to the germans if he got captured by the germans if shot down.

  • and your mother is a whore.

    Hehe... Are you getting worried?

    FrankClanton AKA PeterFirthFan

    ?????????????? LOL

  • My dad flew as a nose gunner under Jimmy Stewart. I have pictures of the group with Jimmy Stewart with my dad's B24 group. Dad always said he was a great guy too.

  • My Dad also flew with Jimmy back in the 50's at Loring AFB my Dad was a gunner on the B-52

  • @sandycrnp a toast to your dad for serving

  • @sandycrnp Your dad must have been at Tibbenham or Hethel, Both just down the road from me.

  • @sandycrnp

My Grandfather was Jimmy Stewart's 1st Sergeant in Tibbenham (sp) england. I have one photo of him with a group of other soldiers sitting next to Jimmy at a dinner table. I would be interested in swapping any photos with you as I never knew my grandfather.

  • @sandycrnp Can you post them in a video? I wouldn't mind seeing them.

  • Why can't we have have movie stars like him today? Instead of F.A.G.'s

  • @PeterFirthFan

    Nice. I'll bet you're a fine person.

  • @PeterFirthFan Oh! You're not a racist all of a sudden!! We have the comments to prove that you are a sick racist bastard!! LOL Chicken!! LOL

  • I am a die hard Jimmy Stewart fan. It's incredible what he did for America and how far up in the military ranks he went. I am reading "Jimmy Stewart Bomber Pilot". Great reading.

  • They don't make like him anymore.

  • an absolute prince of a man <3

  • Just who in the hell do you think you are! ASS HOLE!!!

  • Moron.

  • I don't believe he was, but even IF he was, what do you think you're doing splattering your nasty comments all over dozens of videos. I haven't seen anyone take your smear campaigns seriously yet.

  • Well bully for him.

  • Is there any famous hollywood star you don't have something nasty to say about? Are you a tabloid writer? Do you have some gross small town radio show? You should find something better to do with your time than attacking dead people and getting your comments buried by people with better taste and manners.

  • @PeterFirthFan AND YOU ARE A PUSSY ASS BITCH!!!!! PETER.... IS THAT SHORT FOR DICK HEAD?????? I SERVED IN THE U.S. ARMY AT FT BRAGG WITH THE XVIII AIRBORNE CORP. COWARD BITCH!!!!! WHAT HAVE YOU DONE IN YOUR LIFE CUNT FACE!!!!! GO BACK TO SMOKING YOUR CRACK, SHIT FOR BRAINS!!! OH AND BY THE WAY "PETERFILTHFAN" IS A DONKEY COCK SUCKING SCUMBACK WORM EATING PIECE OF PIECE OF SHIT!!!! WHAT DO YOU HAVE TO SAY ABOUT THAT FUCK FACE?????? YOU FUCKING NAZI LOVING COWARD!!!!!!!!

  • @TheSkydiver1001 At least spell what your trying to say correctly if your just going to hurl insults and off-base inferences.

  • @ApathySidecar At least spell correctly what YOU'RE (contraction for "you are"; not possessive-adjective-only "your") trying to say, before you presume to correct anyone else's spelling. You misspelt this TWICE in your criticism of TheSkydiver1001's misspelling. As to his "insults" of PeterFirth Fan, perhaps by now you've read the PFF serial libels of world hero Jimmy Stewart as "racist" -- JS, who w/ all WW2 Allied military, risked their lives to END UBER-RACIST GENOCIDAL NAZIism.

  • Just about all of us in the U.S. Air Force subconsciuosly tried to imitate that casual, inassuming drawl of two of the heroes we had among us. One was Gen. Stewart and the other was General Chuck Yeager. And just about all of us wanted to do things the way they would want them done. Great guys all.

  • as a brit myself can't believe the B******t Peter Firth Fan has come out with don't assume we all like him.

  • PeterFilthFan is a racist.

  • James Maitland Stewart is my hero!

  • I ran out of space on my last comment. So, just to finish.

I hope Mr. Peter gains some maturity and wisdom and avoids becoming another a patsy or, indeed, a soldier in the ranks of the new, corrupt establishment known at least to some as the race relations industry. Examine where your anger really comes from and, for your own sake, do get a life.

  • I have just finished reading a biography of James Stewart. One of the things I gleaned from it was that he was a man of conviction. He was also a man of his time. It is always easy for people to look back with the smugness of revisionism and condemn people or ideas that are easy targets in the modern age. I think it is especially easy for people to do this who are so obviously and piteously infected with the mental fascism so arrogantly described as political correctness. I hope you wisdom somed

  • Racism, while wrong, is one of the freedoms Americans have, also, socialism, communism, etc. You aren't worthy to carry the helmet bag of a guy like Jimmy Stewart. Let me guess, your hero is Che or Mao.

  • Peter would never serve his country

  • May you rot in hell, sir for saying that about James Stewart

  • Shut up and choke yourself retard.

  • Comment removed

  • You are a load that should have been swallowed.....

  • Your the scumbag you communist sack of shit!!!! Go fuck yourself!!!!!

Obama's your hero, that figures. One Sack of shit training another. Get off Mr. Stewart's back and go finish your crack pipe you worthless commie trash!!!

Better yet go get your death counciling ahead of time. Oh guess you'll have to come to AMERICA for that bitch, cause you can't get in to see a Doctor in England. Stupid socialist fuck!!!

  • had a hard time with being reminded of the GREAT DEBT you owe us. Your just another smartass brit who thinks he knows everything. We sent our men over there to save your asses. And for what??

People like you? You errogant Stupid sack of shit. Your dad should have jacked off instead!!! Or better yet, maybe your communist parents should have aborted YOU????

  • Yea that's why the Soviet union fell and the Berlin wall came down. And actually they were getting the shit kicked out of them until we entered on the western front. Read a fucking book bitch!!! The more you speak the more you prove how fucking stupid you are. Just shut up, geesh!!!

  • jimmy stewart was a brave and loyal american who did his duty he had the balls to fly twenty combat mission over europe including a berlin raid most of the raids were before we had long range fighter escort which increased losses tremendoulsy he didn't have to he had a hell of a time getting into combat the brass didnt want to let him go i dont know if he was racist or not i really dont think it matters he loved his country and what it stood for and put his ass on the line to defend it

  • Hey Peter you fruity ignoramus go back to your liberal Bath house and do what you do best...While doing that Go to Hell.

God Bless Jimmy Stewart a real American Hero!

  • gee, you mean there was no reason to hate the Germans? They only killed about 20 million people, many of them murdered, they rained bombs on major civilian centers starting with Poland and Ending with England, sent over 1000 rockets over the channel to devastate vast areas of England. and stole cultural items from all their areas of occupation. I think we were pretty restrained in most of our actions in response there to.

  • Well, you said it. Now defend it. What is your source of information for this comment.

  • Read Donald Dewey's excellent 1995 biography which details his infamous firing of actor Hal Williams from his NBC show just because the guy was black.

  • sad to say, that is totally false. Sad because you are misinformed.

  • you just don't get it. Stewart defended blacks and in fact almost got into a fight with another actor who used the N word (among other things). The event you spoke about is an inaccurate representation of the facts.

  • where are your facts that he was racist. Nothing points to that at all, except your innuendo that he has something to do with firing a single black man.

  • that is so silly it is not even worth a reply. As a Peter Firth Fan, who do you support.

  • Haha typical!! You sound like an uninformed Obama kool-aid drinker.

  • Every biography? How about naming a few? Hmmm?

  • Actually Martin Luther King Jr was a Republican. Back then Democrats ran the south, and supported Jim Crow laws which forced segregation. More Republicans than Democrats voted for the 1964 civil Rights law.
