Billie Holiday did not write "Strange Fruit". It was written by a Dewitt Clinton high school teacher in NY. I believe his pen name was Lewis Allen. He was not black.
@lindamoggioable Abel Meeropol was Lewis Allan's real name. Abel was not black but he was Jewish, and he was a teacher, he wrote the poem (then turned it into a song) after seeing a picture of a lynching of two black men.
