yes I am a fan, but I think he's being fairly reasonable, and I've read the review he was talking about online and it does seem more like a personal attack on him than the music, which isn't what a reviewer is supposed to do

If you are gonna say to a musician, "I wish you were anywhere but here" or "You can't write one song as heartfelt as anything by so and so" then you deserved to be called an asshole. DeRogatis is one of the best, most honest CRITICS music journalism has had in a long time. And I say this as a diehard fan of numerous bands that he's trashed, including Ryan Adams.
People have issues nowadays with hearing criticism towards anything they hold close to their hearts, but it's one opinion, and they seriously need to get a grip if one guy threatens them.
Give the guy credit for being more than just another journalist that only quotes press sheets.
And the fat card is old.

People will read that dude's review, and whether or not they care about Ryan Adams it will affect the way they look at him and his music. Some people know better than that, but a lot of people don't.
