Saw Emmanuel Axe performing it very much but still I think Martha Argerich's version is the best - I bought a copy ten years ago when on business in the Philippines.
How does an ARGERICH happen ? Her instincts her honest music making. There is music u dream of hearing her in.Just found her Chopin d flat nocturne and Jardins sous la pluie. God !!! I ve seen her only once in Chopin emin concerto with Guilini in Los Angeles . SHE WAS MESMERIZING shocking fast tempi then Mahler #9 Brass scared the hell out of me i was 14 or so. Know one can shape time andline and colordynamics like this!!!
This music is one of the most extraordinary I have ever heard! I almost cried the first time I heard it, especially from 1:41 to 2:45. You can feel all the love he had for Clara.
Yes I have also heard it. It's very good! Richter is also great (particularly in the way he manages to build long lines and stick to the tempo while remaining very expressing). Brendel is also interesting in his own way, and more recently Leif ove Andsnes and Kissin are too (but I don't think they are on youtube). What is so interesting, is that these versions, all excellent, are each different to one another and have each time something to "tell".
How wonderfull to find this interpretation I have also been waiting to find for some while !!! thank you SO much ! and Yes, how wonderful the idea to be at the same time inspired by the paintings of ...Zao-Wou Ki...as someone said, it's all about passion, no matter the Germans, Chinese, music and arts are universal languages :) !
My compliments for this ingenious idea: to combine this Schumann Op.17 by Argerich with this series of grandious paintings by Zao-Wou Ki. Both are the embodiment of what we may call "PASSION".
Yes, impossible to read anything with this playing. Sucks you right in. Disagree, however, with Chad -- Attempted suicide, maybe, but not the real thing
For me, it's one of the best versions I have. I find sad that this recording is not so well known (it wasn't even in the "Great Pianists of the 20th century" collection)
