By the way, in 1955 I first learned to ice skate at the now-defunct Pasadena Winter Garden where the Frosty Frolics show originated from 1951 to 1952.
I also recall watching the first-ever live 1952 telecast of the atomic bomb test direct from Yucca Flat, Nevada, that telecast being set up & directed by Klaus Landsberg with Mr. Chambers as the host. What a thrill that A-test indeed was! OK, I've said enough here.
I, at 69 am a native Californian. I can say that I grew up with KTLA and in the summer of 1952 when Frosty Frolics was being telecast with Stan Chambers as the emcee, my dad took me & my brother to see it in person. It was after the show that I actually met & shook hands with Mr. Chambers! He seemed so gigantic because I was only 9! I also recall Mr. Chambers' surprise announcement of the on-ice live-broadcast wedding of Richard Miles & Shirley Landers. (Cont'd in Comment #2)
An ex-girlfriend of mine, who spent a few years in Los Angeles, once told me that Stan Chambers was "the Walter Cronkite of Southern California", such is his reputation.
Didn't the networks try to get Stan Chambers to join them as a correspondent or anchor??
I had heard an urban legend that when Chet Huntley stepped down from NBC, the network wanted Chambers to replace him, but when he turned them down, they went in-house with John Chancellor.
I worked at KTLA from 1990-1992. I never saw Stan Chambers without a smile on his face. He always had a warm greeting and a kind word for everyone he came into contact with. He more than deserves his high personal and professional status.
