BTW, that's not Maceo Parker's Pass the Peas, even though it sounds like it. They played "Overweight Lover" by Heavy D. Love it when SCSU plays that joint, though.
Any similarities in SU, JSU, and TSU's drilling style is based on the fact that they both used Patterns in Motion, which originated in Michigan State University. Purely cosmetic. Once you get used to watching all three, you realize that they are a lot different as far as HOW they execute these concepts. Their all do different drills, and if it's the same drill, it'll have it's own twist to it.
Nice show TnSU ,, always clean and one of the most crisp sounding HBCU bands of today...I did notice both TnSU and JSU both played boogie...those two bands been going head to head for awhile so I'm not suprised....but AOB sound is undeniable..
@adm118 It's just you... When it comes to "traditional" drilling, the way most HBCU's do it, there's only so much you can do. Some of the elements will look the same. It's not that any one band is copying another, it's just the nature of the style of drilling that's done.
@adm118 No Your not It sure does look like a mixture of jsu and tsu shows . Like at 3:56 (That Drill) But I ain't hating though Tennessee Is were I live now just never seen them do that Before
If you divide the bands in the Honda Classic into size categories;
Bethune ranked as the best #1 Big HBCU Band
TSU could arguably be ranked as the best #1 HBCU Mid-Sized Band
VSU could easily be consider the best Lean-Sized HBCU Band
Albany State would definitely be considered the band with the Most Musical Energy
The Overall Grand Champion has to go to Bethune. Big, clean, with a well rehearsed musical sound. I'm an Aristocrat for life but I try to call it like I see it Objectively clear
I like the fact that TnSU was pushing the tempo the whole show. Good energy. From the clip sounds like they were putting out pretty good too. Good job TnSU

I'd fill in those holes on the field. But this band has always produced the sweetest and cleanest sounds in HBCU bands. :) Good job AOC
