Amazing job, as always. I didn't know you were a freshman when you did this! I was blown away and truly fell in love with APA when I saw "Sweeney Todd" last May. You were - and are - one of APA's finest!
Who wrote this work? It is not ALW's work! The Erik here has an astonishing operatic baritone! And is quite handsome! Rather reminiscent of Javert from "Les Mis"...
This Phantom has music and lyrics by Maury Yeston and a book by Arthur Kopit. The musical was first presented in Houston, Texas in 1991, and it has had thousands of productions since.
Yeston & Kopit were in the process of raising money for a Broadway production when ALW opened his Phantom of the Opera in London in 1986. After it became a hit, ALW announced a Broadway production, and Yeston & Kopit's Broadway investors backed out. Many people agree with you that the Y&K show is an equal or better work.
Thank you again, isyiek. This has been invaluable information for me, I am working on a completely different novel about "The Phantom of the Opera" and am reviewing a myriad of versions of the story. Thank you copiuosly for generously posting this.
It's probably because it's really hard to sing if it's a non-Webber version mask. I read that the design of the mask during the first Webber production was difficult because the singer couldn't breathe and sing...
Overall, you are amazing! I have heard many high school men voices, but you are the greatest, strongest, and handsomest of them all! Break a leg in life!!
Is this a highschool? This guy is REALLY good, like seriously I would almost go so far as to put his voice up in the catagory I like to call 'swoon worthy'
Alex does have a great voice. I hope I get to see him on Broadway. There could be some more dynamics in the blocking. I confused though, isn't it illegal for any school or company to put on a show that's still playing on Broadway?
Thanks for clearing that up, I never really knew how that worked. I thought you couldn't even get rights to it. Now there's one less ignorant person on youtube :)

Thank you so much for informing me! This work seems remarkably more profound, ALW's Broadway smash. Why has not this work been more recognized?

Just out of curiosity, what is the voice part for the title role? Stage Agent says it's a bass-baritone, but he seems to go pretty high...
pannicatack 4 years ago
In my opinion it's a high Baritone "Bass-Baritone"....? someone could blow out there voice with this score....

Nice job. I want to see that version on stage. I have the soundtrack but I've never seen it live.

Phantom by Yeston & Kopit is not currently playing on Broadway but even if it were it is not illegal if the rights to perform are obtained
