  • a high school freshman...

  • freshman...

  • were you a sophomore when you did this?

  • Brava!!!!! Wonderful, Erik is somewhere in the depths of my soul smiling at your lovely voice.

  • Dude, seriously gave me goosebumps with this rendition. Phantastic!

  • Really beautiful! Nice job!

  • Hard to believe this is a highschooler singing. Tremendous talent.

  • I love your voice! :D I really hope ur gonna be a famous musical-actor some day and make this musical popular again ;)

  • Insanely talented voice for a high schooler! Very strong and rich :) muchos kudos!

  • Wow, can't get over how much I love your voice.

  • fantastic job!

  • Amazing job, as always. I didn't know you were a freshman when you did this! I was blown away and truly fell in love with APA when I saw "Sweeney Todd" last May. You were - and are - one of APA's finest!

  • the kopit version erik is supposed to have a full mask. that half mask came from webbers show

  • Who wrote this work? It is not ALW's work! The Erik here has an astonishing operatic baritone! And is quite handsome! Rather reminiscent of Javert from "Les Mis"...

  • This Phantom has music and lyrics by Maury Yeston and a book by Arthur Kopit. The musical was first presented in Houston, Texas in 1991, and it has had thousands of productions since.

  • Thank you so much for informing me! This work seems remarkably more profound, ALW's Broadway smash. Why has not this work been more recognized?

  • Yeston & Kopit were in the process of raising money for a Broadway production when ALW opened his Phantom of the Opera in London in 1986. After it became a hit, ALW announced a Broadway production, and Yeston & Kopit's Broadway investors backed out. Many people agree with you that the Y&K show is an equal or better work.

  • Thank you again, isyiek. This has been invaluable information for me, I am working on a completely different novel about "The Phantom of the Opera" and am reviewing a myriad of versions of the story. Thank you copiuosly for generously posting this.

  • Amazing voice man! i want your cloak!

  • that was fantastic (except for the last notes, o well ). great job!

  • APA did "Phantom"?! Where was I during this?!!! probably in 3rd grade actually...

  • wrong mask haha

  • This is fantastic! I actually saw this school's production of Miss Saigon and loved it. I wish I could have seen this also.

  • I don't even mind that your mask is ALW, your cap is Lon!!!

  • Wish I could have seen this show, you are awesome!

  • I wouldn't think you're in high school by the sound of your voice!! You're amazing!! And I must say: you're good looking too!

  • he is sooooo hot !!!! :)

  • Great voice man! Are you in theatre singing full time? I hope so, man, you are blessed with a great voice. Nice!!!!!

    kris

  • Thanks! Not full time yet - still in high school. Maybe someday...

  • You're welcome. What an excellent rendition.

  • What a voice he has! Impressive. The Webber mask made me laugh.

  • Very nice! Missed a few notes but still VERY good for a highschool production. A voice I find very engaging.

  • Wow, a fantastic voice. Far better than people I have paid to go see sing this role.

  • Shasta College did this one a 2 years ago and I got to go it was AMAZING I like this show better than Webber's. Just my oppenion though. =D

  • Just out of curiosity, what is the voice part for the title role? Stage Agent says it's a bass-baritone, but he seems to go pretty high...

  • In my opinion it's a high Baritone "Bass-Baritone"....? someone could blow out there voice with this score....

  • Nice job. I want to see that version on stage. I have the soundtrack but I've never seen it live.

  • Why is he wearing the mask from the Webber version?

  • It's probably because it's really hard to sing if it's a non-Webber version mask. I read that the design of the mask during the first Webber production was difficult because the singer couldn't breathe and sing...

  • Very good. Very, very good. The junior (class of '06, now graduated) at our school sounded better, but not by much at all.

  • OMG beautiful voice!!

  • I totally agree! And I love that song!!!

  • Very nice alex. I think you got a future in musical theater.

  • Wow, amazing voice! Bravo!

  • Wonderful!

  • Overall, you are amazing! I have heard many high school men voices, but you are the greatest, strongest, and handsomest of them all! Break a leg in life!!

  • Is this a highschool? This guy is REALLY good, like seriously I would almost go so far as to put his voice up in the catagory I like to call 'swoon worthy'

  • Pwns the crap out of Webbers

  • Hey I saw you at cappies you were amazing!!!

  • I'd like to hear you sing the Broadway version

  • You are a terrific Phantom. Please post all your songs---- i have enjoyed the three I have watched so far.

What theater did this show? Are you in NY? yet? are you studying Music? or acting?

  • 2006 production of the Huntington Beach (CA) Academy for the Performing Arts (high school)

  • alex isn't in NY. lol. this is a performance from Huntington Beach High School's Academy of the Performing Arts.

  • This was marvelous! I adore this musical, and that's one of my favorite songs... going to check out "You Are Music" next!

  • Alex does have a great voice. I hope I get to see him on Broadway. There could be some more dynamics in the blocking. I confused though, isn't it illegal for any school or company to put on a show that's still playing on Broadway?

  • Phantom by Yeston & Kopit is not currently playing on Broadway but even if it were it is not illegal if the rights to perform are obtained

  • Thanks for clearing that up, I never really knew how that worked. I thought you couldn't even get rights to it. Now there's one less ignorant person on youtube :)

  • please, can you post other videos of the this musical? Please!!!!

  • you have a nice voice!

  • beautiful voice! But bad acting...

  • dood. I was there!

lexi-poo is the best ever. you'll all be like DANG! who's that boy on broadway?!

  • i think he is a perfect phantom!!...and yes that was was awesome!!

  • Gotta love the cape-swishing stuff :-P

  • haha, i was there that nite. definetly awesome.

  • Has anybody ever told Alex that he kind of looks like Jonathan Larson?

  • Is this from Ken Hill's Phantom? It's a cool song, and Alex is definitely talented. :) Fantabulous!!
