The cops did the right thing here, kakz100. You're assuming perpetrator would either not see the gas guage or not harm the hostage after noticing the guage reading empty. That's a big gamble to take with the hostage's life. Using their method, the hostage went home safely & only the perpetrator was hurt. I wish people in the USA would allows our cops to be as proactive in clear cases like this. Instead, many (likely criminals themselves) seem to want cops to apologize for arresting criminals.
