Let me tell U, this was b4 Marion left the Ward Singers, she was just terrifying with her woops & sqeualing & running up & down the aisles. I saw them dismantle many churches. Another fine group, was the Davis Sisters of Philadelphia,Pa. With Ruth Davis working the lead & Curtis Dublin raising pure Hell on the Piano, they were a Powerful Force.

Aretha, with that piano was a double dose of pure talent, but i just don't think she could handle a gospel song the way Ruth Davis of the Davis Sisters did, nor could she surpass The gifted Clara Ward when it comes to hymn singing. But, that old style gospel, baby, listen here, those gals from the 50's would tear the churches & auditoriums apart. I'm not questioning Her roots, but her grasp on that style of gospel isn't as strong as Marion Williams, Ruth Davis, Mahalia Jackson, Clara Ward, and a few others. To be fair, i don't think those divas could match Aretha in the secular field.

@jollysincere I agree. The trio of Destiny's child "fake sang" throughout the song -- too many riffs and runs -- not real singing. Their voices are weak -- They sound good when harmonizing. How sad that we have to have the secular in our gospel TV events. Shirley Caesar sounded good.

Of course Miss Ceasar, sang well, she came out of the golden age of gospel, from one of the golden groups.......The World Famous CARAVANS! Back during that time, you had to have good vocals, or you would easily been dismissed as mediocre. No Hype, No Hiding, No Padding....Just pure flat footed singing!, Check out some of those old sisters from days gone by.

@HeartToYours Look baby, i'm from the "REAL OLD SCHOOL" i mean waaaaaaaaaaaay back in the 1950s. To me a gospel voice is The Davis Sisters singing The 1955 classic,"He"ll Understand" or the Caravans doing "Your Friend" the "Ward Singers" Doing "Packing Up" These women from that ERA were stone cold singers. Michelle, couldn't hold a candle to any of them! IMO, Even the great Aretha, would have trouble going up against these Sisters of Gospel. Check them out, tell me what U think?

Let me tell U, this was b4 Marion left the Ward Singers, she was just terrifying with her woops & sqeualing & running up & down the aisles. I saw them dismantle many churches. Another fine group, was the Davis Sisters of Philadelphia,Pa. With Ruth Davis working the lead & Curtis Dublin raising pure Hell on the Piano, they were a Powerful Force.

With Miss Ceasar & Michelle together, it only showed just how lacking Michelle was in vocals. If U like Michelle, thats your choice. But for me, Baby, i need that "old time" singing from waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay back when. @TheQueenAretha I'll admit, Aretha was a force to be reckoned with, but those Gospel Diva's from the 1950's were in a class that very few could attain. Aretha, with that piano was a double dose of pure talent, but i just don't think she could handle a gospel song the way Ruth Davis of the Davis Sisters did, nor could she surpass The gifted Clara Ward when it comes to hymn singing. While Aretha, is from the church, These women were the Church. & let us not forget Aretha talented Dad, CL.FRANKLIN.

@jollysincere Yes she can! Aretha is a force to be reckoned with against anyone. She is not going to fall back to anyone. Just because she chose sing in the secular realm doesn't mean that Aretha lost her gospel roots, she only grew as a singer by making that choice...she never forgot and even today Aretha can still bring the church down!

But, that old style gospel, baby, listen here, those gals from the 50's would tear the churches & auditoriums apart. I'm not questioning Her roots, but her grasp on that style of gospel isn't as strong as Marion Williams, Ruth Davis, Mahalia Jackson, Clara Ward, and a few others. To be fair, i don't think those divas could match Aretha in the secular field.

I have her Amazing Grace album. but i also have Those Gospel Gals from the 50's....And i must say that Aretha's piano playing is just as good as Curtis Dublin who played for the Davis Sisters, if not better!..But the true gems about Aretha, is the superb! work she did on Columbia, from 1960 to 1966!, thats childs voice was simply Wonderful. with incredible range.

@Deniroification Beyonce and Kelly were at those awards to support Michelle. Michelle's gospel album was out that year, Destinys Child were technically on a break while they pursued solo endeavors. THEY WERE SUPPORTING HER at her genre's event.

They are gifted but now is time for them to use their giftings for God's Kingdom. Were all born with giftings from God but is what we use them for that's what really matters!!!!!! Go ahead! They sound fabulous but you are right. Can't serve two masters. No body says you have to dress like a nun all the time but if you profess to love the Lord Jesus you can't be running around half naked onstage gyrating like you're having sex. The only reason people disagree is because they don't want to go through the trouble of changing. Serving God is difficult sometimes but you are either going to do it or not. THere is NO middle ground. Praise God.

I think that we shouldn't judge. If they are not saved in their hearts, they will have to answer to God for that. If singing gospel on here got them closer to God, then they should sing it everyday until the power of God changes them.....I'm a prophetess and I know that God can change things.
