  • Do you need a bill showing u bot it?

  • But what if my ipod gen 1 nano still work likes a war horse!... LOL

  • @DPG4REVIEW same here maybe ill go on ebay and try to buy some used and get 6th gen nanos from those lol

  • apple only sent the 6th gen ipods because they ran out of replacements of the 1st gen so only people at the end of the list were lucky and got a 6th gen

    {i got a 6 gen}

  • @the360guys01 DUDE id sooo prefer a gen 1.. its classic bragging rights.. nobody else has a gen1 LOL

  • @DPG4REVIEW agree

  • HELP! My iPod doesn't work, but was not abused. When you plug it into a computer, it notices and makes a beep indicating a new hardware was plugged in. But other than that the screen remains black and doesn't work! Will they still accept it or will they make me pay a fee and not replace it? PLEASE TELL ME!!!!

  • @BuilingtacoTV YES, they will! Your unit is not visibly damaged so they will replace it.

  • i got my ipod off ebay for £50 and i can get the new gen 3x the memory free. best investment i made =)

  • Doesn't the 1st gen get replaced with the 6th Gen Nano?

  • I doesn't have to work. Mine got spoil few years ago, it crashes at startup. They still replaced it.

  • Just sent mine in today, mine was in good condition, but the battery didn't work (it got washed in my pants in the washing machine :P) so the only way I could get it to work was if it was plugged in to a wall outlet which sucked. It's nice to get a new one and with more gb than my old one, but I did love my old one, its the nicest of the nanos imo. Also my aunt gave it to me and had my name engraved into the back, I'm gonna miss it :( lol.

  • Is it possible to just buy an iPod 1st gen and ship it in... or are they very hard to find?

  • @838Frank on eBay they go for $60 or higher and that's in fair condition. You can certainly try buying an old 1st gen and ask for a replacement. I've done that as well.

  • i got an ipod nano with a broken screen and the battery cables are loose will they still change it? thanks

  • @Cali831liviN I'm not sure, but it's worth sending in. I have a feeling they won't replace it but let us know if they do! If it does work even with a broken screen there's a chance they may replace it.

  • i sent one in, and i wouldn't say it is mashed, but the screen is cracked a bit. will they still send one back???

  • @MrFoofighter94 they will replace it as long as the unit works or is not damaged due to abuse.

  • HELP i have one that the screen is cracked does it work too??????

  • @MrFucklalo they will replace it as long as the unit works or is not damaged due to abuse.

  • Thanks for the aware on this IM GETTING AN NEW IPOD !

  • Myne has mashed due to charging fail (im guessing the battery blew up). Will they give me a new one

  • @TwoNineSixGaming if it was due to the battery then I am sure they will replace it. As long as the issue is not due to abuse. You have nothing to lose by sending it in.

  • I knew I'd be getting a 6th gen, and after dropping off my old nano, I started saving money to buy a case and screen protector once I confirm that it's a 6th gen.

  • mine just dies fast

  • just wondering, mine stoppped working 2 years ago, so will apple still replace it?

  • @fenderboy34 they will ...as long as u have the ipod with u

  • @fenderboy34, Apple will replace any 1st Gen. as long as it is not mashed...LOL.

  • @RiverBendCardinal does it have to be a certain serial number? Or all Ipod Nano 1st gen? thanks!

  • @ThaFooooosa naw i thought mine wouldnt qualify maybe cause it didnt have the faulty battery but i guesss all ipod nano 1st gen qualify!!!

  • @ThaFooooosa what's interesting is that the original recall only applied to certain 1st Gen. Nanos, but when the media did not specify this when annoucing the recall, Apple got inandated with customers wanting to get their Nano replaced regardless of the specific unitl. So Apple went ahead and accepted all 1st Gen Nanos. Pretty nice of Apple...

  • WOW who uses these just buy a second or thing gen but that is crazy recalling it in 2011

  • They sent me a bubble mailer through UPS, not FedEx. I received a silver 6th gen nano about three weeks later.

  • they sent me a bag -_- cheap as* mother fu****!

  • It took 2 months but I finally got the replacement. It's a 6th gen nano, 8 GB, silver color.

  • @RiverBendCardinal My ipod 1st gen has a lot of wear and tear, with the screen very blurry. It does plays music, so will they replace it still?

  • Good news! submitted my iPod for replacement about 2 weeks ago and the new one arrives tomorrow! It did take awhile to get the box though.

My wife went a different route, however, and took hers to the Apple Store where they shipped her Nano out for her.She got her new 6th gen Nano in about 4 weeks or so, but that was right after they announced the program.

  • if i take it to the apple store will they give a 6th gen or would only mailing it in the only way to get a 6th gen?

  • i thought u could send it back 160 days later. thats what it said on my paper

  • Hey would you know what the highlighted part on the box with the Rec Due Date means? Do i have to ship it out before that day?

    Tys

  • ltray? lol looks like apple was in a rush, mine just says tray. It does say foam bag, which i didnt get in my package with bubble wrap but it does have the return address thing undernearth of mine so im guessing they will accept it. I somewhat hate to part with my Nano it was my first ipod :( but then again i have an iPhone and i can sell the replacement1 :) Thanks for posting this video!

  • i got a 6th gen ipod nano back

  • @t1nk4n Just use the bag instead of the box that the directions mention. Apple will accept it.

  • @golf296 Sorry but the receipt alone won't cut it. The actual iPod is what you need to send in. Better start looking for it... Otherwise the box you got from Apple is useless.

  • i found the receipt of my nano and it had a serial number on it. I put it in the apple website and it verified it for replacement. I can't find the iPod though. I have the receipt which is the proof. they sent me a box because it was valid. what should i do?

  • Can someone please help me? My first gen is eligible for replacement, the thing is, since it stop working like 4 years ago I was pretty carless with it and it got ran over by a car. The clickwheel and screen broke but the serial number is perfecly intact, will they take it since it's still a valid 1st gen nano?

  • @jb08045 cant hurt to try why not?

  • @jb08045 My iPod nano had a broken unlock switch and it was unusable and I still got a new iPod nano, so you should send it in and see what happens, and if it's broken you have nothing to lose.

  • why in the uk do we get just grey plastic mailing bag with a bit of bubble wrap in it rather than a box? ... i'd rather not have my replacement broken

  • @XxemoTWATxX the pastic bags were a cost-saving measure and an after-thought on Apple's part after they originally started shipping boxes. The 6th gen is so small it's not likely to break so don't worry. There haven't been any complaints about this on the Apple forum.

  • @RiverBendCardinal so instead of a box i got a foam bag... is it the same deal? i just put it in the clear bag they give me and send it back? cus all that came was the foam bag, clear bag, and the instructions... that mentions a box... which i do not have. ):

  • @t1nk4n They are just sending out the bags now. It's fine.

  • @XxemoTWATxX Don't worry, the replacement comes in a box. I live in the U.S. and I also got the same bag you did.

  • Im so happy my 1st gen has been hathering dust and know its getting me 6th gen nano , win!!!

  • Wow your iPod is in good shape. Mine looks horrible. Returned it though

  • hi, im just wondering as i have a 2 1st gens could i send them both off and as i wont need one of the new 6th gens could i sell it?

  • @BR4Z1L14NDUMP You could certainly sell one of your new ipods but you won't get the whole package with new accessories. What you'll get is just the ipod alone in a little chear bag. So keep that in mind.

  • Do you need to have AppleCare service already to have a replacement? Please respond as I received my box from Apple.

  • @TommyBNSF you do not need to purchase AppleCare as long as your nano qualifies for the replacement program. It's part of a recall so you're covered.

  • so everyone is getting a 6th gen ipod nano? wah

  • Somebody knows if Apple will ship the replacements to PMB? They say they won't ship to P.O. Boxes. Nothing mentions PMB.

(I don't live in US, but I have a forwarding agent who gives me a PMB as address.)

  • I just applied for mine today! Can't wait to get it so I can get my 6th gen nano!

  • Comment removed

  • dang i got an 8gb one back i rather have the new one than old one

  • @lava545 Same for me :/

  • erm i never got the email but when I typed in my serial number they said they'd send me the box. does that mean my ipod's eligible?

  • Wait...so now is the 6th gen. iPod you get? Awesome!

  • Do we have a choice to receive the 6th gen or 1st gen? Cuz the only reason I wanted the 1st gen was cuz so i can plug it in my speakers, and the newer apple products such as Iphone 4 and the 6th gen nano wouldnt work in the speakers.

  • @YeloRice, unfortunately, the answer is no. Apple is not allowing us to make any choice either in model, color, or anything else related to this recall. For this reason, there is backlash of negative critisism against Apple all throughout the online community since there was so much apparent disfunction from the very beginning when they started this replacement program.

  • Comment removed

  • @YeloRice I just received my replacement. It was sent with a note saying that the 6th gen Apple Ipod Nano's were sent as replacements in the event that they ran out of the 1st gen Nano's. I received a new 6th gen and I love it.

  • I requested service on 11/11, received a confirming email on 11/12, and received the box on 11/15. I boxed and sent the old nano on 11/15 and received an email receipt on 11/21 (although the box was sent fedex express to a destination thirty miles from my home). On 12\17, I received a shipment email and giving a new serial number. Only upon arrival on 12/20 did I learn that the replacement was 6th gen!

  • UPDATE: As recently as Dec. 16, 2011, Apple is now shipping the newest 6th gen. Nano as a replacement for those who qualify for this program instead of the original 1st gen. Nano that we were told to expect. Not surprisingly, it was just too expensive for Apple to continue mass reproducing the original Nano (which is now 6 years old!). So even though some folks already received the 1st gen. model, the rest of us can expect the latest version. They ship out a month after they get your old one.

  • thanks for the video.

i requested a replacement 11/17/11 and as of 12/20/11, i have yet to receive a box or any follow up email.

i do see it on the apple repairs status page which is reassuring.

  • @LarryLucio call Apple at 1-800-275-2273 to check on your box.

  • @RiverBendCardinal hey btw, on your shipping return label it says ship to zip code 95756, but no such zip code exists. I looked on the email I got from apple and they mentioned the laguna building A was in zip code 95758. whats up with that, just a typo? I crossed my zip code on the shipping label and wrote the correct zip code to the side.

  • @admboy09 That may explain the delay in when they received my box. However, I'm not surprised that they messed up the zip considering how many other mistakes they made in the letter and the overall process in general. Good catch on your part!

  • @RiverBendCardinal - I received my "return package" the day after I left that comment. It came in a yellow padded envelope with a plastic ziplock bag and 1 sheet of paper with instructions on it. I restored it and mailed it back via UPS. Now I'm just waiting. I'm actually pleased mine was delayed bcos it means I may get a 6th gen? As long as it's not an ugly color, I won't mind. I mean, I can't complain either way, but some of those colors are honestly UGLY.

    Thanks though man!

  • @LarryLucio it looks like most folks are getting either a silver or gray nano. Let us know if you get something different.

  • the taping is the complicated part. i don't even know how to use that pad.

  • what if my ipod doesn't work? can i still get a replacement?

  • @water1412 you've got nothing to lose by sending it in. Unless you're using it as a paperweight ;) But I bet they will replace it anyway, since it could be related to the battery. Let us know how it turns out.

  • @RiverBendCardinal lol...i decided to send it back so i requested the box today. Thanks for the reply.

  • It took me six weeks to get the "box" - and it was not a box, just a padded UPS envelope. I sent an inquiry four weeks after registering for the replacement and got no reply. Very amateurish handling of this recall.

  • @woofinu same here dude, I got a UPS envelope too. Just glad to here I wasn't the only one. lol

  • its been a month and i havent gotton the box yet =/

  • I recived my box a couple days ago and im wondering if i shuld mail the nano to apple or go to apple store and try it there. which one should i do? Cuz by the time i go to the applstore the 10 days of sending it back might be over.

  • @YeloRice your best bet is to first call the store before you stop by. Some stores are willing to process your Nano to get a replacement (they ship it off for you), while others just recommend you send it back yourself. In other words, call the Apple store to see if they can guarantee faster processing time (less than 6 weeks).

  • I just sent mine in, though it has a "leaky" screen with black ink within the display. Do you think they will still replace it? It seems that they may just be repairing the iPods you send in and just replace it with a new battery and new casing.

Hope I get a fresh one though!

  • @kenboy127 based on info from those who have already received their replacement nano you will get a completely new/refurbished 1st Gen. Nano. In other words, say goodbye to your old one (leaky screen and all).

  • @RiverBendCardinal Great to hear! My Apple Repair status says "product replacement pending."

    Fingers crossed!

  • My box never came?

  • 6 weeks to get a replacement...so, a late xmas pressy?

  • haha my nanos battery blew up, its all cracked open, but it still works when its plugged in, ive only been using it plugged in in my car for the last couple years

  • still waiting for my box to arrive. its been weeks

  • @Alisonnnn Me too! :(

  • @TutorialsAndReviews7 your specific unit won't be eligible if the battery in it did not come from the specific battery provider that supplied the defective batteries for the Nano. Some Nanos had batteries from other suppliers that were fine and don't require replacement.

  • @RiverBendCardinal I just want to be sure even if my ipod qualified for the exchange will there be any diagnostic fees(cause my ipod seems fine and there's no warranty on it since its been like 5 or 6 years since i bought it) ) ?

  • @silverskills1 as long as it qualifies for replacement based on the directions I provided you, there is no fee.

  • can i just go into an apple store and get my replacement?

  • @MultiFireplayer, yes you can order your replacement at any Apple retail store. They may even have one on hand. It's easier this way and perhaps much faster based on what I have read on the Apple Community forum.

  • Ie. Replacement program not fixing or such....heres from a site. The first generation nano was hailed revolutionary at the time. It was thinner than a pencil but the screen was small, it couldn't play videos and had a maximum of 4GB of storage. It was also controlled by a click wheel. If you still have one lying around, your upgrade is the size of a watch face, has a touch screen, can play video, has a maximum of 16GB of storage and shuffles your music library when you give it a shake.

  • @MyHeroINside, all indications from the Apple Community forum and the AppleCare reps themselves is that the replacement is an exact model of the 1st generation nano NOT an upgrade. They are putting the 1st gen. Nano back into production for a limited time for those that qualify which isn't everyone.

  • @loladin, that $100 fee is just standard in apples emails, even if your nano1 works its the possibility that the battery will burn up in your pocket...i read they dont do any maintenance they just replace it with a newer version just not the newest version...has anyone gotten their replacement?

  • @MyHeroINside the $100 diagnostic fee is a way to deter folks from sending in their Nano when it does not qualify(though chances are you'll won't pay a fee and simply won't get your original nano back). If it does qualify, there is no fee.

  • Thanks for the video, so we got this all clear and under control. Now to another thing, my ipod is also eligible for this replacement programme, but mine is still working properly. Will I still get a new one of the exact same model etc? I know some people are worried about getting a fee for sending a working ipod. The replacment letter says "Apple recommends that you stop using your iPod nano (1st gen) and follow the process noted below to order a replacement unit, free of charge." No problems?

  • @loladin123 Same model, with replaced cover & battery, they basicly rip off the casing, replace the battery then replace the casing and send it back.

  • @copperkipper1 have you received your replacement and were the songs saved on it? If the only things being replaced are the battery and case, then shouldn't the original contents be on there when you get it back?

  • @RiverBendCardinal No, they send back a refurb unit. everything is wiped.

  • @copperkipper1 do you remember if you had a "foam bag" in your box to put your old Nano in or did you just put it into a clear bag on top of the foam?

  • @RiverBendCardinal Clear bag as well ^^

  • @loladin123 as I shared with @MyHeroINside, the $100 diagnostic fee is a way to deter folks from sending in their Nano when it does not qualify (though chances are you'll won't pay a fee and simply won't get your original nano back). If it does qualify, there is no fee regardless of current working condition.

  • i am eligible for replacement but i am from Egypt so the Apple Authorized Service Provider told me you have to go to Apple Retail Store; which we dont have in egypt.

I called apple customer support in the us and uk and they booth told me they do not send replacements abroad.

i told so what shall i do they told me there is nothing to do!!!!!

  • Hi @sox5404, since you're in one of the countries to which Apple will not ship a replacement Nano, and since there are no offical Apple Retail stores in your area, you can still take it to an Apple Authorized Service Provider (AASP).

You can check out AASPs in Egypt using the link in my description. Just contact one of them.

Hopefully this should help you get a replacement.

  • @RiverBendCardinal i did that the first store told me we dont know about that program, the second one told me yes we know about it that but we dont know who is going to pay for the new product!!!,and the third one told me we dont do exchanges.

  • @sox5404 print out the website page that provides the official statement from Apple on the recall. Take it to the store with you and have them call Apple if they have questions. You should also visit other available AASP stores in your area until you can get someone willing to help you. Good luck.
