Red line has yards at Braintree, broadway, and possibly Alewife. Blue line has a yard at Wonderland I believe. And the green and Orange should have an underground yard at North Station. Green with another at the end of each line of the Green.
@geneking7320 Indeed. I live in Toronto now and the trains here lead with blue LED (and clear white on the trains whose lights haven't burnt out and been replaced) and trail with red.
where do all these trains dissapear to when there not in service? i know the red lines have somewhat of a yard in braintrree, and im sure thats pretty much it, but im still curious....ive always pictured some secret place with like hundreds of train cars there.....and thats where i want to work! haha
@timbothehippy Every line has at least one yard with rows and rows of tracks where the trains sit out of service, almost like a parking lot for trains.
I lived in Boston many years ago... but was there last weekend to visit. I rode all the lines again, and enjoyed the trains on the orange line the best. Those seemed to remind me more of the way subways were when I rode them regularly in the 70's & 80's. I think it's neat though the way the loud speakers announce the oncoming train in the station! Never seen that before! ... not even in NYC.
@beenie3 Yep, the green, orange, and red lines still have the same trains that ran in the 80s, and even the 70s for the red line. The oncoming train announcements are new here and they are helpful.
I love Boston and the MBTA even with all its flaws. Im curious though, I couldve sworn I saw the conductors(guard) head sticking out. I thought the T eliminated that position?
Very clean!! I hope to see this more often when I take the Orange Line. I wonder if the Orange will have new cars like the ones on the Blue Line in the future.

I live in Chicago. I've ridden CTA,WMATA, MARTA, SEPTA, NYCTA, and BART.
The "T" is the only subway system I've ridden that leads with red lights (Green Line excepted). Oops! I forgot Baltimore's system.

Nope, the guards still ride in the second to last cab on the Orange and Red lines, making announcements and working the doors.
