I'm not from Brooklyn, my family is, but I do recall some of this from visiting there. I'll have to rely on memory, for so much of it has changed. I'm sorry to say it's not what it used to be. It has changed, for the worst, and those golden days are gone forever. So many of the new residents have no concept or respect for what it once was. Thanks for the trip down memory lane.
I like LanzaFan I grew up in the bushwick section. I lived on Weirfield St off Evergreen Ave, I went to Halsey Jr. HS. There was a gang who's members were older than me at the time they were called the Halsey Bops. They were rough but they looked out for us younger guys in the neigborhood. My family moved in Dec 1958 to Ozone park Queens where I later grew up. Great memories on this video.
Nicely done, I grew up in Brooklyn, Williamsburg in the 50's and 60's. My memories are strong and always with me. My wife grew up in Brooklyn too, Crown Heights.
I grew up in Bushwick on Broadway and Saratoga Ave. Lived on Jefferson and Cornelia and Halsey Strs in the 50/60s. Now on SI I never go back as the area is ghetto ridden and unsafe. However, they were great days and good mems.
Born in the late 1940's I grew up in Brooklyn Lefferts and Washington about 5 blocks from Ebbets field. I sure miss those days and the city of Brooklyn.....The world has gone crazy since then...as those were the years of family, and great fun and friends....YEP I SURE MISS BROOKLYN I go back every few years and cry when I see what has happened to that place called home
@cantortany Thank you for your comment. Yes, the world has gone a bit crazy since then but we still have our memories of a great place to grow up and a much simpler time.
@cantortany Corner of washington and crown.. went to erasmus hall... moved there in '57 the year the dodgers moved to L.A.Delived groceries from stores on franklyn ave.(on facebook as richard kaye) look me up.
@love4sweetz573 Thank you so much for commenting. That's what we were going for. It doesn't matter where you're from. This song brings back your own special memories of a much simpler time and place.
I really loved this song & film but PLeAse, pLEASE...I know I've heard this song before attached to either a TV series or a movie..It's truely driving me nuts!!! Can anyone help me figure out where I've heard it before????
@shilo577 .....This song was the opening theme for a TV series called "Brooklyn Bridge" which aired for, I believe, 2 seasons in the early nineties. The original song was only one minute long and was sung by Art Garfunkel. We wrote additional lyrics and arranged it into a full three minute song. We are glad that you like our version. Thank you for your comment.
I was born in Brooklyn, a block past the army base,,, we had some great times. I wouldn't give up anything. Brooklyn was the BEST as a child. The best era,The whole block was family, watching out for each other. The games we use to play in the streets.. were great....putting the johnny pump on when it got to hot ..lol...nothing will ever bring it back.. I thank God I grew up then,,,Thank you for all the great pictures and ur lovely song...((Hugs))
@Angelzofblue ...You are very welcome...........We're glad you enjoyed it....Yes....Growing up in Brooklyn back then was very special.....So many memories of great times.
Wow! Nedicks with the square frankfurter rolls! I grew up in Bushwick late '60's and was a teenager in the '70s....3 movies on Saturday at the Loew's Gates...What memories. Thank you so much for this!
@AnKaJaDe Thank you so much Anthony.....It was our pleasure......This has always been such a special song for me... Also reminding me of my youth in Brooklyn when times were so much simpler. We're so glad you enjoyed it...
@jimdoowop I was born & raised on Myrtle ave in Bed Sty the Fort Green Park Neighborhood Boy they were the days at the Bklyn Paramount & Fox movie house & the Rock N Roll shows with Allan Freed & Murray the Kay. times gone but not forgotten.
I grew up in the late 30s and 40s across the river in Irvington,N.J. where we crossed over the Brooklyn Bridge many times to go to Coney Island. I regularly went to Ebbets Field to see Jackie Robinson, the most exciting ballplayer ever. I wouldn't trade those memories for the world.
I'm from Zagreb (capital of Croatia) and whenever I listen this song i think of yesterday and do a little traveling through my mind to mi childhood and my old neigbourhood ( soory if I missspeld some words, my english is a little bit rusty) :-)
Now that I've listened to this 30 times in a row and seen all these pictures, I sent my wife to bed because she was from Long Island and knows nothing.
@Dudley1948 Thank you so much, Dudley. We're glad you enjoyed it. Brooklyn was such a special place and will always be home to me also. We really enjoy performing this live at our shows. Thanks for your support.
Jim. I don't know if I ever told you. But we moved back to Brooklyn in 1957 exactly three blocks from Ebbets Field. Crown Street Off Franklyn. I was thrilled I would be so close... Then I found out the Dodgers moved to L.A. that same year....#$%^%^&&*
