i was there at that show and recall that CHICAGO TRANSIT ATHOURITY was the OPENING ACT. For you youngsters that was the band that went on to be know as simply "CHICAGO" I had just graduated John Burroughs junior high school and got tickets for the 24th row to see the show.Price $7dollars and 50 cents which was top seats price for the show. I was JImi Hendrix 5 times in concert over the years. By the way I still have the TICKET STUB FORM THE SHOW.
this is one of the best hendrix shows available...you can get it on cd from the "stages" series...towards the end of the show people start rushing the stage and jimi says "sit down motherfuckers...just sit down" - with his guitar! its the craziest thing ive ever heard....he doesn't use a talk box, it's just with his hands and a wah pedal...
I was there too....got to stand right in front of the stage a few feet from Jimi. He was wearing his purple headband as I recall, Noel was sporting a tophat, and Mitch was playing his double-kick set. I'd been a Hendrix fan at that point for a couple of years so it was unreal to finally see him. I was in the 8th grade!
Wow...thats insane, I'm so jealous. I've loved Jimi since I was around 15 and I'm 34 now. I've paid my respects to him (in renton WA) and that was an experience I'll never forget. I would give anything to have seen him live!!!..
that's so cool man. I would've done so much to see him live! just wish I was born earlier! I constantly rag on my parents for not seeing him since they were in their teens in 67-70! haha
4/26/69: The Forum, Los Angeles, California. SET LIST: Tax Free, Foxy Lady, Red House, Spanish Castle Magic, Star Spangled Banner, Purple Haze, I Don't Live Today, Voodoo Chile, Sunshine of Your Love.
Later Jimi goes to the Whiskey A Go Go with Mama Cass Elliot and Billy Eckstine.
