This is the SETI Directors favourite sci-fi movie up to the point where Jodi is bouncing around the beach with her father because some rich guy was able to hide a major complex from the 1,000s of military and domestic satellites.... why, why why

I just noticed that the sounds coming from earth date back earlier and earlier the further the camera gets away. Which would technically make sense.

Yes, the only problem is that Saturn is only 1 light hour or so from Earth, so the news stories get anachronistic way too fast...

the space is so gigantic that distances between stars are calculated in light-year (the distance that the light cover during 1 year)= 38,000,000,000,000 kilometers,

in the movie they receive a video signal initially emitted from Germans then the aliens send it back to earth where each journey of the signal took 26 Years !

This kind of movies are tricky, because are full of symbols and verbal signs which seems at first sight to be hidden are in fact very clear ... But if you look closely you will find that this is a masonic movie and the good guy is the Terrorist in white robe - They show us that the one who say that our sky and water are poisoned is considered as a terorist ...And this Character also say that Man is not made from Monkey it is by the same essence by god.. Is not so hard to see that they lie us.

IMO one of the most important and greatest movies ever made.

We are a tiny rock floating around an infinite (for all practical purposes) universe, and no one will leave this planet physically, ever.

And yet we kill each other, poison our planet, etc, etc..it's insane!

Definitely a beautiful and inspiring movie that shows on one side the human kind's tenacity for finding out explanations to the universe we are inmmersed into... but also, what some conservative postures can do against knowledge and truth

well done! the most mind-boggling opening scene of any movie, it illustrates the insignificance of planet earth as it relates to the universe and how every human is no more than a grain of sand on a vast beach. very humbling!
