@Coltsman4 Yup a wavelength is crest to crest but in the Rubens' Tube there are two waves one from the source and the back-bouncing one from the other end of the tube and with interference they make those waves in the flames. So when both waves cross you see a bigger wave in the flames. It's a bit complicated without drawing it :P srry

@jinssz The correct way to measure the wavelenght in the Rubens' tube is pick a crest and we call this crest 1, the next crest is the crest of the wave from the other direction (so it's not the crest of the wave we are measuring).

The crest after the back-bounced one is the crest of the wave we are measuring. So it's a crest to the 3rd crest that's the wavelenght. (So it's twice as big as they show here)

I made one of these for physics, I didn't have time to put foil tape on it. The pvc tends to melt when you do that.

@mark4931: You could have just used a section of aluminum or copper pipe, and drilled it. Most drill bits are made of tempered steel, so they can easily cut through copper. At least it would be fireproof and sturdy.
