Why is Falun Dafa persecuted in China?

Is this persecution still going on? I just recently heard of Falun Dafa, and have only learned 3 of the sets of exercises (learning the other 2 today). I don't understand the reason for this to be persecuted. It's sick, and I can see this about to happen to Christians in the US very soon.

It's a very beatyfull practice, and it's not "evil". I became a better person to my family, friends and to society. Every body tells me that a became more responsible, kind, calm, healthy and my grades at college also became higher after learning Falun Dafa.
