It's easy to underestimate how well Senna was driving here. Yes, the Lotus 99T had an active suspension and a Honda V6 turbo - but the car was overweight, had too much drag, and generally poor grip & balance.
No. He was in a normal Turbo-powered Car. Senna already had an active suspension in his Lotus, but it was embryonic at this time. You mean the 92Williams. It was fun to watch F1 in the Turbo-era: a lot of overtaking, classy rivalries, beautiful cars. I remember this race shown here, I was young and it was boring. (And Spanish TV ridiciously showed round after round just Mansell and missed most of the rare good moments behind him) But most races had all what you miss in modern day racing.
@MrTiberius1000 i'm not so sure, mansell is 30 seconds in the lead, as senna use to say you race to win, not come second, third or fourth. was mansell in one of those hi-tech williams cars which were banned the moment senna signed for williams too?
@S1elmx No, those Williams cars (starting with the FW15C, if I remember correctly) with the traction control systems (which were banned starting in the '94 season) started in the '92 season.
I believe this is the season just before Senna joined Prost at McLaren (in '88). However, I have no idea how Mansell got so far ahead in this race, possibly complications for the others earlier in the race I supposed.
Senna 4 ever!
